This may very well be the most comprehensive and complete videos I have ever seen. As a former Toyota mechanic I have viewed hundreds of videos here on RU-vid, many of which go from bad to worse. I can't afford to take my vehicles to the dealer/shop and do 90% of the repair work that I have the tools for. I won't tackle anything that might cause damage or where I might get stuck. To that end, I watch far too many RU-vid videos, mostly because I can't completely follow what is going on or too much gets edited out for my level of comfort. I was on the fence about taking on this job with so many components and hoses involved, but L35 covered every single step far beyond what most were willing to. Can't thank you enough!!

Although I haven't reached 29k miles on my 2018 RX450h F Sport, I have reached the 72-month milestone. I have purchased all OE Spark Plugs, Ignition Coils, and PCV Valve and plan on doing a comprehensive tuneup. I also plan to clean both my Throttle Body and my Mass Air Flow Sensor. I have never done this before, but, I've watched a dozen Spark Plug replacement videos multiple times. However, your video was the most informative and insightful I've yet to see. Even the errors you highlighted and corrected were teaching moments. Even though my vehicle is slightly different than the one you've worked on, the overall concept is the same. Good job young lady, good job.

This is the best how-to video I have ever seen. It is clear, well organized, and thorough. It shows hidden tabs, inserts and slots that is very helpful in removing plastic parts. It clearly shows where to pinch the clips on plastic part connections and electrical connectors to release the locking mechanism. After breaking two ignition coil connector clips, despite being very careful, I found that it is easier to cut the tape on the wire harness bundle to create slack so that I don't have to disconnect it from the coil. The dealer wants to charge about $1K for replacing spark plugs on my 2013 sienna.. there's nothing wrong with them... but the mileage is getting up there 120K .. don't remember if I had them changed before at 60K miles... this video will save me lots of money .. it looks doable.. thanks for posting this video .. very helpful and clear instructions.

This 2GR-FE video reminds me of my 3MZ-FE nightmare. Both have the same horrible impossible-to-reach cylinder 1,3,5 and that black intake plenum must be removed to access. During my 3MZ-FE drama, the air flow sensor big pipe was broken and need to buy from Lexus dealer for $$$. Not sure if it's worth consideration: while you are in cylinder 1,3,5, you might as well replacing the coils with brand new ones even if they are not giving trouble b/c with all the vibration during this process, coil 1,3,5 may go out next week or month. It's like extra insurance 😅

Today, I changed the spark plugs on my 2011 Sienna with 110k. Everything went smooth, many thanks to L35. This is an amazing video with all the Torque values. I ordered the parts online from Toyota with discount coupon, 6 spark plugs, 3 intake manifold gasket and throttle body gasket cost me 95 dollars , shipping included. It took about 3 hours. Most difficult part getting the back screws holding the intake manifold. I had to use multiple extensions and 5/8 spark plug socket to get the back spark plugs.

If you need to change Sienna (or similar Toyota V6) plugs, this is the only video you should watch. Literally a step by step video manual with torque specs included. As she mentions, for the rear plugs, you don't necessarily need to remove the wipers etc; and I only removed the insulator below the cowl held by the 4 square plastic nuts. I could still visualize/manipulate everything, and the plenum still had clearance to lift/slide out, but I had to unbolt the bracket from the rear of the plenum. To reinstall, I loosely bolted the bracket on the plenum first and rotated it while sliding the plenum back in place. If only all car repair videos were this detailed. Thank you for posting this, A+

Thanks for posting this video. I've done this method as well as the method where the air filter is removed. This one seemed more straightforward. I removee the 2 bolts and a nut that held the rear coil harness and had plenty of slack to avoid removing the clips to the coils. I only removed the rear bolt to that difficult bracket and had no trouble removing or replacing the top of the intake. It took me about 3 hours start to finish.

Your video made a complex project one that was much less scary. I think the TEQ spark plug socket is now made by Gearwrench, or at least that's what Amazon sells. The extended Hex sockets were absolutely necessary. I also struggled to get the bracket on the back of the surge tank reattached. I would think putting it on loosely would be a big help if I ever have to do it again. I also swapped out the vacuum hoses that were under the surge tank and the one that connects to the brake booster so I won't have to remove that again anytime soon. Fantastic work. Thanks again!

I have an '06 Avalon 2GR FE. When I changed my plugs I found oil on the boots. So my plug change turned into valve cover gaskets and tube seals. An adventure to be sure. On the Avalons you need to pull the cowl in order to get the surge tank off. It's a lot of fun.

Thank you so much for a masterful, educational, and thorough tutorial on changing the spark plugs on the 2GR-FE. I bought a 2010 Lexus RX 350 with the same engine two months ago and it has 114,500 miles on it as of today. I have since watched many YT videos on how to DIY in replacing the spark plugs, but none was satisfactory. Some of them were shortened, some of them were disorganized, and the rest were just poorly explained -- until the YT algorithm decided to put yours on my screen's recommendation list. Now I have no excuse to procrastinate on this DIY job, which the dealer and some local shops quoted between $850 to $1,000. If I live 100 miles or less away from your shop, you'd have already become my car's designated mechanic for all of its future repair needs. But too bad I am in NY. 😕

This is one of the most encouraging videos to tackle one of the most unnecessarily cumbersome jobs I have ever seen. I just couldn't bilieve how much I need to remove to access 3 spark plugs on my Sienna.... but your video makes it look less intimidating. It's also a good opportunity to clean the throttle body and service some gaskets. Btw, I think it's worth it to test 3 of the new plugs in the front first, before installing them in the rear location, just to make sure they work 😅. Thank you 1000000 times for this!!!

Incredible video. Torque settings are usually never discussed. It becomes my job to track down the settings but not in this video. All I have to do is order the parts have similar tools and I'm ready to go.

Well, finally did it. I probably should not have waited until 141,000 miles. Every clip of the six electrical connections to the coils broke. They literally shattered when barely touched. One spark plug took about thirty minutes to remove, gently working it in and out, with some WD-40. Luckily, it was Bank two, spark plug # six, in the front. All back together and the van runs great. Thanks for such great in depth, detail.

This is by far the best video for replacing spark plugs on 2011-16 siennas! I just tackled this job solo and this video helped me do it. I would like to add some tips of my own for those who are going to do this on their own. Firstly, the ignition coils in the back can be pulled without unplugging the electrical connections. Just release the plastic clips that hold the large wiring harness that contains the coil wires (3-4 clips) and this will give you enough room to remove the coil packs easily and prevents you from breaking any electrical connections which are super fragile! I broke an electrical connection on the #4 coil which is ok with me since its in the front and easy to replace. The 2 bolts on the back of the plenum was a little tight but with a small ratchet & socket will get them off. I only took one bolt off on the passenger side of the plenum and one on the driver side and it came off pretty easily. Taping with masking tape & labeling the hoses & plugs makes the reconnection easier to remember. It took me 5 hours to do the job but included cleaning the engine bay, cowl, hoses, cover, throttle body, & taking a long lunch break! It would've only taken me about 2 hours or less if I had just replaced the plugs without cleaning anything else. Oh, btw, I broke a hex bolt on the plenum using a torque wrench with only 13 foot/pounds on it. It worked for 3 but it snapped the 4th bolt! I will never trust another torque wrench again! But I would definitely take my vehicle to this awesome female mechanic over any of the male mechanics I've ever used! Shout out to this woman for her DIY video and explanations on every step of the way!

2 years ago I did the valve cover seals, spark plugs and wires on a 1997 Toyota Camry v6 by watching another RU-vid video. Very detailed or I would never have attempted it. No torque specs or part numbers though. I smiled everytime you gave the torque specs. Aluminum is unforgiving. Thank you! My 2013 Sienna is overdue for plugs and you've given me all the info I need.

Awesome DIY video. Just completed replacing my 2012 Sienna's spark plugs with 150K miles using this video.

For anyone changing plugs on a 2015 Highlander 2GR-FE , you absolutely do not need to remove the cowl below the windshield. Plenty of room to get those rear plugs out. I just replaced my plugs, 2 hours and 15 minutes start to finish. This included cleaning the Throttle body and mass airflow sensor. My local Toyota dealership quoted me $746.00 , parts and labor. 5 hours labor, what a ripoff! I installed OEM Denso FK20HR11 Iridium plugs, $11.00 ea from Autozone. I initially purchased a set of 6 off ebay, they were counterfeit parts, thank you AMD @ car care nut for providing examples of the many counterfeit products out there. Lastly, the upper plenum rear mounting bolts are not at all difficult to get to on this year Highlander. Overall, this was a very smooth and easy job.

Outstanding video and editing- and way better than any of the others I saw on the subject. THanks especially for the 'appendix' on changing out the coil plugs- that info really saved me on my 2011, as five of six of mine broke (one disintegrated while changing out the leads). Two notes for others: (1) on 2011, the left and right brackets bolt have a solid bolt holes (not slotted)- get the left and right bracket bolts half started before torqueing down the manifold plenum (four 5mm cap screws and two 10mm nuts). Otherwise, once the manifold is down hard, it's nearly impossible to align the holes and start the threads. (2) On the replacement plugs, make sure the silver contacts seat down (toward the latch) to allow the lug in the coil to slide in above the contact in the plug. Wow I’m an amateur DIYer but this gave me the guts to change out my daughters 2012 Toyota Sienna and I was careful with those old ignition coil clips…#5 was particularly stuck!! Nothing broke and must’ve had factory plugs, they had a yellow X on the top (she bought it used a few years ago)

Very excellent and great details, needed details. I have looked at many, well a few, remove and replace spark plug videos for Sienna and it seems that you have provided every detail needed by a less experienced DIY to do the job successfully. Thanks for paying attention to greatly needed details, which will save me a lot of time tracking down things that I need and repeated visits to the parts store. Also, I l really like that the video was filmed on a, I guess, tripod. It was not shakey. Thanks again.

For pro mechanics, those small details doesn't make much difference but for us dyi people, it's those small unexpected hurdles that can throw one off and result in spending a ton of time figuring it out or breaking something).
