Thanks for the how to video. 2015 jeep grand cherokee altitude owners manual says to inspect the transfer case fluid at 30k, 60k, 90k, change it at 120k, then inspect at 150k. For SRT version, it says to drain the transfer case and refill at 30k, 60k, 90k, 120k, 150k. Theres also a table for the diesel version. I am at a 120k now and will be doing the fluid change. Also, the Quadra-Trac I takes Shell ATF 3353, and the Quadra-Trac II takes ATF+4 like in your video. Not sure about newer year vehicles though.

One of the most neglected drivetrain components on a 4x4. I would have people request fluid for a transmission flush, or have me service their transmission. I would ask if they have ever serviced the transfer case? "Say what? Do you need to do that?" I have seen many that it looked like diesel oil draining out of the transfer case after 75,000 to 100,000 miles. Way past due. It two quarts or less for most applications. Good advise. Thanks for the video and information.

is this the quardra trec 1? im looking at a 2013 jeep grand cherokee larado and i think it has a trec 1 is that a good transfer case are these jeeps reliable for a long time, my dad wants a newer suv because his 2003 ford escape is very rusty but he needs a robust 4x4 for pulling logs for fire wood but still good for daily driving but must 2013 4x4 suv's ;don't seem to have a strong 4x4 that can be switched on or off and he really doesn't like when the 4x4 turns on by it self but likes the idea of it being on all the time if it cant be turned off. just curious of your thoughts has 170000 kilometers

I wish someone would show in detail the MP2010 transfer case refill procedure because it's apparently pretty specific. Only holds 0.55 Quarts of "ATF approved to MB 236.10, MB 236.12, such as Shell ATF 3403/M-115, MOPAR® part number 05127382AA, Fuchs/Shell ATF 3353, or equivalent." NOT ATF+4. And you're not supposed to fill it until it comes out of the fill hole, that would be overfilling it. It should be filled 1 to 1.3 inches below the fill hole and to use a metal dipstick bent at a 90 degree angle to measure this accurately. I thought about just capturing the exact amount the comes out, then putting the exact fluid amount back in but I'm only at 20,000 miles so it might be a waste of time right now

So there seems to be a huge controversy about fluid and when it should be changed. Especially when it comes to the "Forever fluid " that the car makers claim. Back in the '90's I daily drove a 1972 SS454 Elcamino. I bought it with 112k miles on it. When I parked it (due to rust , but still ran great) it had 403k miles on it. When I first got it, I changed the oil, transmission fluid, and rear diff. fluid with synthetic from AMSOIL. I would change the oil filter every 7k miles(and add a quart), and the oil at 21k miles. The transmission fluid, being synthetic, I did at 100k mile intervals. Never did the rear diff. again. Synthetic oils aren't supposed to break down like conventional oils. My point being; I have a 2016 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4. It currently has 243,500 miles on it. I bought it used with 90k on it. At 120k I replaced the front and rear diff. fluid. Every 10k to 15k I replace the oil and filter. I haven't replaced the transmission fluid or the transfer case fluid yet, but will be doing it very soon. Otherwise it runs really well. Almost forgot, I run Lukas oils "low viscosity" oil additive in the oil, and their fuel treatment every other fuel fill up. At 120k I replaced the sparkplugs and coils. Last year I replaced the Antifreeze and radiator(had a small crack in the plastic). Up next; 4 new wheel bearings,4 rotors, pads, front strut assemblies, rear shocks and springs. Hopefully the bushings and ball joints are still okay, no issues so far.
