I have this exact car, same year and everything and it has never ever died in the nearly 10 years I've owned it, drive it everyday and even cross country. You obviously don't know how to drive rally because this thing is a beast on the track and especially country roads (hence the name). Worst thing that happens with most cars are spark plugs dying every 6 months or so but that's with daily and track use, and only a supercharger being replaced this last year out 0f the 9 I've owned it so far. Nice try though ahaha.
I was actually thinking of getting one of these. Good thing I saw it...I'm not going to get a car that dies in a test review and doesn't start again LOL
Brian: "Thaat's Fucked..." made my night. Brian Cooley is my favorite Cnet reviewer. Him and Molly Wood. Also it seems like the EFI got fucked or something clogged the fuel line...
Indigo8086 yes... AIR!! If you noticed the car was low on gas, and a car that's out of fuel basically suck air and eventually not start and attempting to restart it will kill your fuel pump
I own a 2016. It isn't bad of a car; this is more of the touring Mini, good fuel and comfortable ride. Mine hasn't broken once, bought it used with 78'000 Km and it gets going in the coldest Canadian winter days without much hesitation. Had -22 few weeks back, it almost gave up but it started the first push.
I had one for a loaner when I took my Works mini for it's first service. It isn't that bad, they even gave me a manual one. Being 30 horsepower down on my works (and weighs more) it does feel significantly slower. In my short drive I get the feeling it's 75% the performance of a regular S with 70% more practicality. It's not for me, but it's a win in my book.
I could get a 2011 with 103 000 km’s for $13 000. The ALL4 is enticing me for winter fun. Would be going from a 2013 base model Veloster with 270 000 km’s to the 2011 Cooper Countryman S. Should I stay away from it? Reliability issues or no?
mini's are notorious for unreliability before BMW bought them the person who designed the engines made a mistake leaving BMW with a bunch of angry customers. unfortunately BMW has been unable to fix the problem.
I have a 2012 and have ZERO problems with it!! Just like with any car the first year is always going to have some bugs... I love my Countryman and anyone interested should go test drive one! The "go-kart" handling is amazing!
I thinking of buying the countryman or the two door hardtop but I can't decide both are good looking vehicles and best for my area I live very close to San Francisco
why not do a negative review if its honest? do you always cover your eyes and ears when the world isn't all sunshine and rainbows? if there were no negative reviews then reviews would be pointless.
@tjpark1111 Foot-pounds...pound feet... what is the difference. I am sure everyone can come to the conclusion that he referring to how many pound-feet of torque the car has. Why be so critical of how he explained it?
@madant1977 Have you not looked at American cars now days? The Charger, Challenger, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango, Ford Explorer, Ford Taurus SHO, Cadillac CTS-V. Not to mention your British cars are all either German owned, Indian owned, or Russian owned lol. All American cars are still owned by American company's, so stick that in your pipe and smoke it.
@madant1977 Yes a few may have been based on German cars but 100% of the cars are American and don't have the slightest bit of European parts on them..don't forget that Opel, Vauxell, Volvo, Land Rover, Aston Martin, and many more were one or are still owned by Americans
The lacck of reliability, the fact that I'm sure parts for this thing are expensive comparitively speaking, only 25-31 mpg and no fold flat bench seat in the back, not quite my favorite crossover yet but I'm still searching. Also, screw a turbo, superchargers all the way!
Picked up my 2011 countryman S ALL4 almost a year ago now and it has been amazing! Ive always wanted a MINI but needed another all season family car and i couldnt have been happier with the choice I made! I REALLY want a 2023 JCW now 😂
@AdamsJoshua85 Audi's & Androids, sounds like heaven to me! Brian Cooley, I just like the way he says it like it is, doesn't matter what other people think, if he likes it, or not, he just says so. Let's face it, if U can stall a diesel, it sounded like a diesel anyway, it can't be much good can it! Have a great week!
Got loaner countryman when I brought my mini in for some servicing. Thing is really nice. Grwat job of bridging many gaps like the 4 door, cargo space and interior room for thw back passengers. Also the new 4 cylinder in the 2015 w paddles is surprisingly fun considering manuals are a necessity in minis. Even the way the auto trans gears down and causes that pop and burble is incorporated. Lame that you arent actively making that noise but cool that they didnt over look that aspect. Really well thought out car and you can definitely feel the premiumness on this vehicle. It is a little more top heavy with the taller stance compared to the regular 3 door coopers but still a very nice handling vehicle. Pickup in the vehicle is nice with the new 3rd generation engine.
I love the center 'Mickey Mouse - inspired' speedometer, it is both retro and cute. I am a guy, but I am tired of ordinary designs. If one needs to look at other interior designs without this great and big speedometer, then look elsewhere. Not every single car is for all people. I love all the Minis. The 2017 Countryman looks fantastic too, btw.
