Hey guys, I hope you enjoyed this review. If so, you could really help me out by heading over to my newest one, it's on a 2017 Mercedes AMG GT. It's not every day I get the chance to drive/film such special cars, so I'd really appreciate you taking a look. Even a couple views can help RU-vid suggest the video. Thanks so much! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-puXsLu6zAvQ.html
And this engine was underrated in HP from the factory as well. I believe it was closer to 430-435 hp when released. There are some articles/reviews out there where it was put on a dyno and was proven to be more than what was advertised. These are modern day classics. The dedication of the design team of the Coyote was unprecedented during its development! Piston oil cooling as well too, which was eliminated in newer versions. Badass road machines!
The oil squirters were removed in 2013 I believe. The hood vents became standard to help reduce heat in 13 for this reason. The biggest issue with the 11-12 coyotes is the rod bearings being the same as the 4.6 3 valve engines. I did the write up on how to fix the coyote knock when mine started knocking and I discovered the part number for the bearings is the same for the 4.6.
I adore my 2014 GT. It’s a street brawler straight from the factory, and I get more looks, stares, and compliments in this car than any I have owned in my life. I get excited drive it, just as the when I had a brand new 1987 Ford Mustang GT 30 years ago. Very much the most bang for the buck.
I'm loving my newly acquired 11' GT 6 spd. 3.55 Brembo pkg. Black w/beige int. Found it a year ago with 16K miles. Still practicing everything this pony can do.❤
Nice! My car could’ve definitely used the Brembos haha. Don’t know what you’re running for wheels/tires, but I’ll say this, going to a 275 section square tire setup made the car handle amazing, even with an otherwise stock suspension. Something to consider in the future!
I was watching this video and within 2 minutes it had me coming up with an excuse to run an errand so I could drive my 2013 GT. If I hadn’t already bought one this video would’ve sold me. The production quality is as good or better than some car reviews I’ve seen on TV.
I also have a 2011 6 speed manual and I love it. I put a supercharger on it last year and it made an already great car better. Even makes those dreary Monday morning drives to work fun. I typically hold on to my vehicles about 5 years, just enough time to pay it off and move on to the next one, but I have no intention of letting this one go even after 10 years. I suppose I'll eventually move on to a newer Mustang, but this one will sit in garage right next to it.
Just 120 views after 48 hours?? Man you must be the king of underrated channels... Well, I sure won't leave and I'm recommending you :-) May your perseverance lead to grand success! I take your opinions serious because you drive so many miles in the vehicles you review.
Thanks John, I really appreciate that; I assumed a car as popular as the Mustang would perform better than say my Z4M but the RU-vid algorithm often proves me very wrong haha! However, 392 Challenger video did this exact thing for almost a year before blowing up, so I never count a video out.
I recently got a 2012 gt and I'm in love with it. The only thing I don't like is having to drive it through Houston streets, which are terrible. I'd carry it on my back if I could.
Ive got a stock 2013 GT Premium and I'm never getting rid of it. This is probably one of the only reviews of a stock 2011-2014 Mustang GT I can find. It looks like they improved the brakes after 2011 because mine are factory stock and they look larger and they stop on a dime and are very grabby. My fiancee has a 2012 Mustang GT which is also stock and the brakes are visibly smaller and her car does not stop as hard as mine does. I've also had the same complaint about the stock suspension and I plan on changing it. We both have the Getrag MT82 6spd transmissions and though they aren't the best we haven't experienced any problems with them at all and they work rather well. Thank you so much for this review!!
What a great video! Really appreciate the time you put into it! My 2011 has been everything I'd ever wanted. Just hit 105k miles since fall 2010. Never an issue but Ive bought alot of tires 🤔
Love love love the music and sense of pride in the video! I had a foxbody back in the day and appreciate the Mustang passion. Rowing the gears with a v8, what a feeling!😎🥰
Great video, still have my 2012 Mustang GT, only car I have ever had for 10 years. The key to handling is Watts Link rear end, koni or ford racing suspensions, 6 piston Brembo, Bama Tune or SCT, if you have a Gregtec manual, spend the money and drop a Tremec, enjoy...
@@BuzzytheBlue no its the 6 speed auto , which I almost did not buy, however its bullet proof, no paddles, just 1, 2, 3 then drive. With a tune bama or sct tune has firmer shifts and all gears go to redline and gets up and goes. If you prefer the manual and you get a good price on the car, look at American Muscle or Late Restoration. They have the Tremec transmission for purchase. Drop that in and worry free
This review was the best I've seen so far, gave a real world outlook and the footage is superb. I'll interject on why people crash these sometimes, it is because many of the drivers who move to them grew up on front wheels drive cars and have no experience with a rear wheel drive vehicle. They don't take time to relearn before they start romping down and get in trouble.
As a S197 driver myself, this is the most accurate and honest review by far. Yes, it has its flaws, but also many upsides. My car has the Brembo package, where not only the brakes are sufficent for normal to sporty driving, but also the suspension is slightly upgraded, compared to the stock GT. And I cant agree more, this car rewards with the stellar engine and also the looks. You cant get anything near that, for what this car costs. And it can be anything you want, a drifter, a quarter mile tool, a daily driver....or a bit of everything and still looking awesome. I live in Germany and know many other cars, but this has earned my love and its going to stay. Edit: oh, did I mention, what FUN it is to drive 🥰
Buzz, Excellent work, hands down one of the Best car reviews I've ever watched. A completely realistic, thorough and objective perspective of your standard Mustang consumer. Thank you, I really enjoyed that
Great video! about a year with my 2011, and just love it! bought it with some mods here en Chile, my dream car, no big issues, but as you said, "keep it simple" principle is the best for this kind of vehicles.
What a great video. I've been contemplating the purchase of a black GT 5 speed w/47,000mi. I've watched many videos, but this was the video that brought back the feeling I had in my 06 GT. You know the one. Thank you for that.
Outstanding video production quality!! I am an s197 2011 v6 mustang owner I love my Pony car so much, and I plan on giving it cosmetic and performance upgrades. In my personal opinion, the 2011 to 2014 mustangs are my favorite
This is the second time I have watched your review. I own a Boss 302 from 2012 you describe the platform well and take fantastic shots of the car for your videos. Well done keep up the good work
This review is excellent. As an owner of the exact same car (including color) as the video I agree with all the drawbacks but should add they are easily and economically fixable if you know what you’re doing. He is correct that the early MT82 is in garbage. Shifter asst tends to move laterally under load, I missed 2-3 and bounced off the rev limiter enough times to know. Best solution is a titanium shifter bracket that takes the slop right out. I bought one from Steeda that made a world of a difference. The non-Brembo brakes are undersized as well, but a good quality set of aftermarket rotors and hybrid track pads bring braking performance closer to what it needs to be for a >400hp car. Stock brake dive and bucking under acceleration are also an issue. Firmer set of shocks (I chose Koni STRs) with the stock springs keep it flat going into the corners and reduce oversteer coming out. With around $2000 worth of mild targeted modifications this car is capable of being a world beater.
Most people don’t understand just how capable these are with a handful of tweaks. Suspension and a good set of tires and it’s a drivers race between this and an E90 M3 on any road/track. I love my M cars but I wasn’t so disillusioned as to downplay the capability of these Mustangs. Unbelievable value for money.
There is a video out there somewhere of Randy Pobst doing timed laps around Willow Springs (I think) in an ‘11 GT and an M3. From what I remember the lap times were almost identical. Also I noticed towards the end of the video opening the throttle going uphill you had some pretty serious oversteer….nice correction. I don’t think I could get mine to step out that much if I tried, what kind of tires are you running?
I love this video man, way to go! I had a 2021 Camaro that I did so many cosmetic mods with, but got totaled from someone running a red light and hitting me. I’m happy I survived…. The frame even got bent. Hopefully I can get me something like this in cash soon
Thank you! Sorry to hear about your accident… these Mustangs are huge value for money but you’ll probably want to do some suspension modifications to get it handling anywhere near as well as your Camaro did.
Nice video. Here's is my take (philosophy) on the Mustang: Starting in 2011 with the improvements in the V6, V8 and now Ecoboost, the cars and engines are so vastly better than the original 65-66, that there is nothing to complain about. Hard plastics, big deal. The Mustang is not a luxury car and has always been built to be "affordable", although that term is not realistic for the current models. The price for a 65-66 just keeps going up and yet try using one for a daily commuter or a long trip, then you will really appreciate the modern Mustang. One reason the 65-66 are popular is the styling. The 2005-2012 was a great retro design. The changes to the front and rear of the 2013-2014 are fine, but lost some of the retro look. I've noticed that the online websites sell the 2011-2014 Mustangs very quickly at ever increasing prices.
Why do I feel like I just sat through a movie? Very impressive production quality. Intelligent speak. Good work! May this set the bar for performance car reviews.
I had a 12 GT manual and also experienced some shifting issues. Turns out the issues aren't with the transmission but the horrible stock clutch. A high quality replacement clutch fixes almost all shifting issues.
A big thing is also having the right tire sizes for the wheels and making sure they arent too old. I switched my stock wheels/tires for the ones off a 2013 GT500 PP also.
Thanks man! Had a whole message typed recommending something slower but, 🤷🏻♂️ at 19 I was driving something almost this quick and was fine. You’ve just gotta be careful. Some tips; don’t take traction control off for months while you’re getting used to the car (unless you’re in an empty parking lot), don’t show off on the street, and most important, don’t drive beyond your ability. Keep those things in mind and go for it! Just remember, respect the car and be humble.
@@irvingrimaldo83 I got a 2012 GT at 17, right before my 18th birthday, and man is it amazing. You just gotta remember to repress any urges, and definitely DO NOT give into peer pressure. It’s been nearly a year and I’m barely getting comfortable with speeding in it. Hope you find your stang bro.
Thank you for your review. I like the s550 except I want a key ignition. And I like the old school design. 2011-2014 is the range I would be looking at.
I just discovered your channel today. What a great review of this Mustang. You have a great talent represented by the quality of this channel. I have a 2019 GT and have similar thoughts regarding the MT82; so long as you're not quick shifting, etc, it's a buttery smooth transmission. I look forward to future videos. Thank you for this content.
Thank you! Really appreciate that, and yeah I think for 95% of driving the MT-82 is perfect, it’s that last 5% where you’re rushing it or driving it hard that it falls short. Two years with my GT and it never really bothered me.
Bought my 2011 for 11k with 93k miles. Engine blew at 105k and got it fixed for 6 k. Only payed 250$ though. This car gets a lot of stares and compliments and I'm smoking cars that cost 3x as much lol. I love this car so much
@@BuzzytheBlue The car had almost no oil at all when it was checked after the bad engine sound. Which was weird because the car had an oil change only 3.5k miles ago which it was due for one soon. Its also tuned by lund. Mechanic said the rods were burnt. Too much fuel was being sent. I have heard these engines can go through oil pretty fast so now I'm very cautious and check it a lot. Could've been the tune... Not completely sure
@@BT-ve5pv just test drive it and check the oil and any weird noises. I felt it was my fault the engine fucked up. Just maintain your oil changes constantly and if you tune it don't bag the limiter unless u have OPGs
I love the review! I recently purchased a 2011 Mustang GT, manual trans, with 25k miles. Sweet deal, well maintained! Lots of fun to drive. Owned a 1967 Mustang GT as my first car years ago (wished I kept it) and this one brings back so many memories. Question, what type of exhaust does yours have? Sounds more than stock.
Thank you! My car has Borla mufflers but is otherwise stock. I don’t believe they are the “ATAK” variety. It’s stock otherwise and I’d never change anything else exhaust wise, it’s a killer sound with no drone or annoying volume when you don’t want it.
Thank you. It's just Borla mufflers, completely stock otherwise. No need to go crazy with exhaust setups on these, I've heard Coyotes ruined by chopping resonators and cats off, they get too raspy for me.
Great job man. I watch a lot of reviews. A lot! This was refreshing somehow… and I could t agree more, I don’t know what’s more irritating, the clowns that crash Mustangs into crowds or the morons who actually believe it’s an issue with the Mustangs specifically and not the numb nuts behind the wheel. Thanks for expressing that because you are spot on with that claim. I’ve had 3 Mustangs going all the way back to my 93’ FOX to my current 21’ S550. It ain’t the car JACK, it’s the dipshit behind the wheel. Well done
ynical Did you go with Steeda as well for the struts/shocks? I’ve been looking at upgrading for a while now but am wary of hurting the ride quality. The Steeda isn’t harsh on the street?
My 14 gt I have now I left the stock stocks cause I didn't have money for new ones at the time. That was 5 years ago and never changed them cause the car rides good. My other cars had kyb
I did Eibach Pro springs, but be warned... if you lower the car, you need to get control arm relocation brackets for the rear or your car could become dangerously unpredictable when cornering under power. I ended up doing Whiteline upper and lower control arms with the brackets. Car is a dream now. This is how Ford should have built them in the first place.
Borla mufflers and otherwise stock! I bought the car with them already on so unsure of the exact model but I don’t think they’re the “ATAK”. People ruin these cars when they make them raspy/shouty, I love how this thing sounds.
@@BuzzytheBlue exactly! Corsa extremes and borla ataks sound awful on these. I just bought a 2011 with muffler deletes and I’ve been debating between changing to magnaflow streets or Borla s types.
@@Joemauma_ I haven’t heard the Magnaflow before but I can 110% recommend the Borla. It’s basically just as refined as stock when you’re just cruising around, no drone, easy to drive quietly, but when you get on it the sound is amazing.
Would you say the 11-14 coyotes are even still cheaper to maintain than a 5.7 challenger as far as maintenance, fuel etc? I’m cross shopping the two lol. Kinda leaning towards the mustang now tho
The 5.0 is a much better engine than the 5.7. The more direct comparison would be the 6.4 (392). As far as reliability the Coyotes are extremely durable and reliable, the Dodge V8s are great but I’ve heard of quite a few large failures and problems, the owner of the 392 on this channel actually had a complete engine failure on his 2018.
BuzzytheBlue geez that’s kinda scary lol, I love the look of challengers but it does seem mustangs have better engines from the 3.7 to 5.0, and even the ecoboosts. Regardless of the car I certainly do want some reliability first 💪🏽 thanks my guy!
QUEEZY Welcome man! Definitely do some additional research too before making a decision. I think I would want a power train warranty if I was to own one of the modern Dodge V8s. My friend with the 392 would’ve been out $10K if they hadn’t covered it.
@@BuzzytheBlue I picked up a 2012 but unfortunately it already has long tubes and an off-road x pipe with corsa axle backs super raspy. I'm thinking of finding a catted H pipe and going with those borlas. Love the deep rumble vs the trumpet rasp
I think the 05-09 looks better. I have never liked the rear end styling of the 2010+. I also don’t like the raspy sound of these. The 05-09 sounds more like an old school Mustang.
I am currently looking at a 2011 with about 120k miles. Is there a certain mileage I should watch out for, mean for example..... at 100k this particular part(s) need to be replace. I would like to enjoy it a while before having to sink a bit of money into her. Thanks
Generally speaking if it’s been well taken of these cars are very simple and affordable to upkeep. If it hasn’t been done already, at 120K it’s likely time for a basic “tune-up”, plugs, coils, etc. Otherwise, these cars really aren’t too fussy. Maintenance/ownership history is more important than mileage.
The manual transmission is the weak link though so watch out for any consistent “lock-outs” or abnormal gear whine. The MT-82 can last a long time if driven smoothly, but when beat on it tends deteriorate.
Probably already did this, if it needs it or not, new fuel pump, alternator, plugs, coil pack, battery. Have 114,000 on 2012, no issues. But in the process in replacing things that will eventually go out. If you do long road trips you will be glad you did. I still in the original parts listed above and the water pump. These coyotes and Chevy LS motors are known for performance and longevity.
Maintenance bills are extremely reasonable, I haven’t had a single issue with mine and regular maintenance is inexpensive. They’re very durable cars. As far as MPG it’s obviously not great. Expect to average around 16, unless you’re doing a lot of highway driving in which case, maybe 20. I have daily driven mine for almost two years, love it.
@@BuzzytheBlue I see... Yea I'm looking into making the move from my mpv ford cmax 1.8 petrol (2007 model) I do about 7.8L/100km's so not too good already on fuel and since buying a house is impossible at my age with silly low mortgages might aswell buy a 'stang (live in europe by the way...sadly) Thanks for thale answer
@@hoepsipoepsi FYI, I have a 2011 V6 manual trans convertible and get 34 US mpg at 65-70 mph cruising. I also have a 2019 Ecoboost convertible manual trans and it gets 33 US mpg on long drives at 65-75 mph. The V6 is 305 hp, the turbo 4 is 310 hp. Both have all the power I need.
Here in germany this Mustangs are very exotic since they was officially for sale in 2015 with the MK6, the other models are have to be importet from the USA. As a owner of a 2011 GT I can say this Cars are for sale in germany for horrible prices in opposite of the USA, but what you get is more reliable then a VW GTI, which sales for 40.000 ore more. I would never ever sell my Mustang to buy some European car.
I just signed all the paperwork & got $3,000 for my 2010 Chrysler Sebring convertible, with a shot catalytic converter, & rebuilt motor, it was $17,998 out the door, $354.00 a month payments, it has 109,000 miles, is that a good deal, it's my first time dealing with the sharks at dealerships. 😂
