Very useful- thankyou ! Replaced/cleaned the filter in mine today, following your demonstration . Saved me a heap of cash and went well , hardest part was replacing the arch cover afterwards .
I just did this, I think there are a few important points missed: 1) Don't try to pull the fender clips as the author suggests, you will bend the tabs inside the fender. Instead, when you order the replacement reservoir, order replacement push clips. They're about 50 cents each. Just cut the head off with a wire cutter. You'll save 20 minutes and you'll do a neater job. 2) When you remove the hoses from the pump, there is a tiny clip on each that lets it pop right off. One hose has a white clip the other a black clip matched to the color on the pump. Use a tiny screwdriver or pliers to push them out of the way (they're not supposed to come off) 3) Have a large container handy to catch all the fluid, you'll need it. You might consider removing the pump (it pulls out) it will drain the fluid much more quickly. Frankly, it's a miserable job. No wonder why my Ford dealer didn't want to do it.
The reason the pump didn't have the same connections is because you had a replacement for a regular Focus and not the hatchback (SEL) Focus. The second connection, for those reading the comments, is for the rear window sprayer.
Grit gets in the plastic clips and then they don't want to come out. Spray them with wd40 and use light pressure out they come. used this method for years at the dealers. I suspect the tanks deteriorate over time which stop up the pump and the washer eyes.
And you are absolutely right! if you noticed the car that I'm working on is a hatchback, and I cleaned and installed the original pump back since it was just clogged.
Ok it doesn't look as tedious as I though it would be. I have to replace my pump due to using the rain-ex windshields washer fluid. My question is can you just remove the the pump and replace it instead of the whole reservoir? I found the part on Rockauto for pretty cheap.
My 2012 has 36k miles on it and is in the shop getting stuff fixed now than it's in my driveway! I've had 19 cars in my life (I have 5 cars right now) and this 2012 food focus is by far the absolute worst one I've ever had! This is not a car I would ever buy, and the only reason I even have it is because my grandmother left it to me when she died (she bought it brand new in 2011, and barely drove it because it was always in the shop getting something on it fixed) . There have been so many recalls and stuff that has just gone wrong on this car I can't even seem to get rid of it! No one wants it! I tried to gift it to a family member and they drove it for a week and said no thank you! I literally can't give this car away! The cruise control doesn't work, passenger window won't go down, water leaks in when it rains, the heat/ac works but is opposite (heat is to the left and ac is to the right when the control for it clearly says its the other way around), the sync sound system in it comes on and starts talking to you every 5 minutes without you having touched the button or done anything to action that. Washer fluid has NEVER worked. The doors will sometimes lock when your inside and won't let you unlock them! I got locked in the car for 20 minutes until it decided to finally work and unlock (I tried both the inside button and the key fob button! Neither would unlock it!) There has to be a short or something somewhere causing this stuff but every time I take it to ford they just charge me hundreds of dollars and tell me it needs a new battery (I've replaced the battery 9 times in this car!) Replaced alternator, starter, and many other things. This car has never been in an accident or even been driven very much (36k miles only). It's just a POS! So yeah... WORST CAR EVER!!!
