Great video! Just one suggestion: if you buy genuine Toyota/Lexus spark plugs, they are pre-gapped. Please do not gap the plugs, it will damage the iridium tip. I asked the parts sales person at the Toyota dealership to measure the gap and he said no way! If you measure you are at your own. It will damage the iridium tip and they won't take the part back.

You should be suggesting people use OEM iridium long life plugs which are pregapped to OEM specs. They can be damaged if gapped and it's unnecessary. Also, many iridium plugs are coated and don't need anti seize lube, which can also negatively affect performance when not needed.

The Car Care Nut is adamant that you should NOT put any anti-seize on plugs! Since he is a certified Toyota mechanic, I'm guessing he is right.

You make it look good and easy to do. I've been doing my own mechanics for years, but they became more computerized so that's intimidating. But after this I'm much more confident. What is the lube you use on plug before insert? What does it do? Keep from getting welded in if it gets too hot? Right? Thank you!

Sorry for the delayed response. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Your very welcome! The gray stuff I put on the spark threads is anti-seize. Anti-seize prevents corrosion, and galling, of the threads (threads on spark plug, and the threads in the cylinder head). It also acts as a lubricant for the threads, making installation (and removal) easier. I forgot to put the anti lock freeze on threads, I hope it will be okay! Everything else went well and I was able to take and turn off the warning light too. Car runs like a Champ! Thank you!

Hello there, I figured you did such a great job explaining how to change plugs in my car, I have a friend who has a 2007 envoy, sierra. He said it blows white smoke, the fourth spark plug smells like gas. I was thinking it could be the sending unit isn't getting oil to all plugs, may need to replace the unit or is there a clogged line? What I've read so far it says white smoke is either blown head gasket, or crack in one of the cylinders. Would a worn out sensor create any of these issues?

Its not a good idea to add anti seize on threads of plugs, ultimately the residue from the seize drys up & when removing the plugs in the future the dried up residue falls off the threads into the engine causing future engine problems therefore not a good idea practice to use anti seize to plugs at all.

Hi Marcin, I'm not sure that I understand your question. Are you trying to determine if an engine sensor (TPS[Throttle Position Sensor], MAP[Manifold Absolute Pressure], etc) is receiving a 5-volt reference signal from the computer? I'm happy to assist. Just need some more info. Thanks.

There should be a label, somewhere under the hood, that has the spec listed. Look for a label that says "Emissions" on it.

Well buddy I have to say that I have never done spark plugs on anything newer than the 90’s. Coils for each plug and some other differences can get you in trouble! I have a friend in Colorado with a newer Lincoln (not that new) he changed his plugs and then after that the car ran like crap. So $681 later from a repair shop it’s all good. He broke all 8 connectors or something like that when he disconnected them!! lol It’s not just as easy as it used to be. He’s of course not a “master mechanic” !

What a bummer. That's a chunk of change... It's stuff like that (replacing multiple pigtails (and expensive coils) that makes the old points-style ignition system seem tempting. This Toyota was the easiest set of plugs I've ever replaced. Right up there with a Briggs and Stratton lawn mower. Talk about easy access.

I would imagine it's the same, but......it's always best to do your homework on torque specs, confirming for vehicle/engine in question. Should be able to find it on Google... Over-torquing can result in stripped threads. Stripping out those threads, in the engine, will turn a simple spark plug job into a nightmare...
