The Southpaw Autoworks RU-vid channel was born out of love. In the past, I worked as an ASE Master Certified automotive technician rebuilding automatic transmissions. This was a very rewarding experience, thanks to my mentors. They made learning fun, and helped to minimize the number of mistakes made along the way. I’d like to pay this forward, and mentor you. If it's possible for a one-handed southpaw, I believe it's possible for you, too.
2003 Chevy trailblazer 4L60E trans I put new oil pump and torque converter it seems to not have 1st or 2nd and it seems to only wanna shift after I let off the gas for a few seconds. Any thoughts???
4l60e was working great one day and the very next started slipping into 3rd and won’t go into 4th. Any ideas? I don’t think it’s related but just for reference I did just finish replacing the fuel pump on the truck which included dropping the fuel tank a few days before this happened
Great video. I bought an old truck that has sat for a few years. The transmission oil was below the pan. When I took off the pan I noticed that two bolts were on the magnet. They belong to the low-reverse servo cover. Now I'm wondering if someone was in there stealing parts. Your video gives some guidance on what to look for.
My favorite part on my 08 1/2 ton 4x4 was dropping the front y pipe , so i cut it up welded two different y pipes together brought the cross over exhuast pipe out of the way ..much easier now , didnt seem to effect o2 sensors , i used to work in a exhuast shop
If I can, I'd like to know the bushing removal sizes you used to remove and install so I don't waste money on a bushing kit that won't work. I thank you for this video, as I bought a complete rebiuld kit with everything, including new bushings for a 74 th400. And I plan to use your videos as I rebiuld this tranny. Thank you.
My 4l60e has park, reverse, neutral and first. It will not shift out of first. I have unplugged the transmission trying to throw it into limp mode and the transmission is still stuck in first gear. Not 3rd like it should be in limp mode. I have been in the scan tool and checked vss and it's fine. I can watch the trans command second and 3rd if im going fast enough but it never shifts out of first. I have no codes. I have powered the solenoids with my scan tool and can confirm I hear them clicking laying under the truck with the engine off. I'm thinking this valve must be stuck inside the bore. I have not tore the valve body out yet but I am going to Saturday. Do you have any input on what you think could be going on based on the information I've provided.
I got a question. I have a 2007 4L 60 E. All my gears shift perfectly fine. When my transmission is cold, reverse works but when it gets hot, it don’t engage
Great lighting, clear video, professional narration, with helpful tips and explanation! Thank you. We all need more of guys like you as teachers in our schools.
I purchased several “O” ringed (outer portion) boost sleeve/boost valve assemblies that were made by the Sonnax company. Stick dementions are 0.471 (reverse boost) and 0.421 (load boost). The Sonnax valve is 0.531 and 0.491 respectively compared. This seems like a lot to me (the amount of increase)! I have yet to experience the effects that the larger valve may have. Any idea what I should expect? The first one is installed in a pump with a new oversized pressure regulator valve needed to restore sealing integrity to the pump.
I have a 2007 chevy 2500 won't shift into drive. Code reader says shift censore B. When under truck with pan down, is shift censore B on driver side or passenger side?
Industry standard is to replace both solenoids anyway. You'll thank yourself later. Test ohms with multimeter 20-30 ohms, ohms should climb fairly fast otherwise its lazy and bad. Also make sure they actuate with a 9 volt battery before installing. They are at rear of transmission btw.
Hey dude great videos. I didnt see one but do you perhaps have a video in your future line up that might cover some specialty tools to do this rebuild that are absolutely necessary if there are any? Thanks for your time hope you take care and again great videos!! Right to the point!
Can the computer cause a newly rebuilt 4160E to downshift? The old transmission did the same thing. Or, could it be wheel speed sensors...or something else?
