Today we are removing the alternator on this 3.6 engine. In the video I remove the lower bracket up its optional. I mainly wanted to show how the bracket mounts to the alternator and was limited on room to film while on the vehicle.

Thank YOU! I’m currently changing my alternator on my 2020 jeep gladiator. Normally I would just call my dad with questions. He passed not too long ago so I’ve turned to RU-vid. Because I’m stubborn and like working on my jeep on my own. I have watched OVER A DOZEN videos! YOURS is hands down the best one. So thank you for being a stand in dad for me on this project. My next project is transfer case seal haha 😅

Total success! Minor hiccup on breaking clip while removing intake unit. Saved myself $20 by using 1/2” ratchet rather than breaker bar. The breaker bar task was a doozy but with someone else’s help, was able to move belt on and off. I know this video saved me hundreds of dollars. Just wanted to say thanks! Truly appreciated! 10 out of 10 stars!

I have a 2018 Jeep Unlimited Rubicon and was viewing this video to be more informed about my Jeep. I want to extend my compliments to the mechanic and videographer. The mechanic was clear, precise and explained every detail while the cameraman did his job. Nice work guys. You also saved me some money in the future if I ever need an alternator or a new serpentine belt. Well done and keep the videos coming.

G Ran many thanks! I am a one man show...that includes being the camera guy....the Mechanic.....the sound guy....the editor. The editing is what makes it all look good. Over the years I have taking more time to work on the small details like sound, lighting, camera angles, etc and it’s nice to see that people notice. Many thanks again for the great feedback

I have to say I’m impressed with your production work - camera, sound, editing and especially lighting. I worked in broadcasting for over 30 years. I’ve set up shoots, produced video commercials, trailers and promos. Your work is impeccable it shows that you care about how you portray your message and yourself. Did a graphics house produce the logo for you or did you create that? I have to say during my day I was spoiled. My job was to view and write. The go into an edit room with professional editors and audio engineers and put together the magic. Today, you have to do everything yourself. Just wanted to say great work keep it up.

@@georan4323 Many thanks man. It means alot coming from someone with your back ground. It is a labor of love......it has to be because it doesnt pay that great. But as long as people are learning from the videos......I am happy. Sometimes I wish I would just film and not worry about the small details. A 30 minute repair takes me about 3 hours to film it feels like lol. But again....I wouldnt be happy if I did that way. I had someone on Fiverr do the "grinding" intro and the actual logo was done at 48hourlogo. Thanks again!

I replaced my alternator yesterday after watching this video. It was pretty easy. The hardest part was releasing the belt tensioner since I was working alone. I stood in the front of the Jeep on the passenger side and put a cheater on my breaker bar then leaned my weight into it. The hydraulic cylinder compressed after a moment and I was able to slip the belt off the power steering pulley. Putting the belt back on was easier than taking it off. I did not remove the triangle bracket and instead just removed the alternator. I could not get the small electrical connector on the intake to unplug and I was worried it would break so instead I just rolled the whole air intake over on top of the engine and left it plugged in. There is enough slack in the wire to do this. The two long bolts on the alternator have a ridiculous amount of thread on them, a lot more than I anticipated but it was fine. The Jeep dealer wanted $1,190 for a new alternator which includes labor. They also offered a remanufactured alternator for $512 installed. I bought a remanufactured alternator at O’Reilly’s for $224 and installed it myself in less than an hour. The alternator from O’Reilly came with a lifetime warranty where as either option from the dealer did not. I am an old man with serious health issues and I got this done by myself. If I can do it, anybody can do it.

Thanks for the very informative video, for what little info is needed. By that I simply mean because it's a pretty elementary repair, not because of the amount of info. In fact, for what it is, you managed to detail every step in the most professional and clearest way possible. Im thanking you for the video because Im doing this job tomorrow for one of our customers, off the clock for cash. We dont actually work on customer's cars, we work on their motorhomes. I'm an RV service technician. But we try to do little things outside our wheel house for good customers. Now that Ive seen the job done by someone who is obviously a professional, I can go do it tomorrow and look just as professional. In fact, before the customer gets there, I can have every tool needed organized and laid out on the cart in order, 8mm, 10mm, 13mm, 15mm, 16mm, ratchet, impact driver, breaker bar, small flat blade screw driver, gloves, throws and fender covers, all ready to go so I can get in and get out and look like I really know my shit and impress the customer!! So, again, thank you! 😁🤘

Thank you, David, your breakdown was right on. Until I watched your video I thought I was going to have to remove the alternator just to replace the belt. The previous four videos I watched on removing the belt never mentioned the triangular bracket under the alternator. Go figure. Even with the two-foot breaker-bar, this old man [70], needed a three-foot cheater pipe on the breaker-bar to push that hydraulic assembly down, loosening the belt to get it back on.
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 6 лет назад
Glad it all worked out in the end.....its all about leverage and actually about going slow to aid in getting that odd tensioner to release enough to remove the belt. Odd set up for sure from the tensioner to the backwards alternator. Thanks Ben for watching and for the comment. Make sure to subscribe!

There's always something more difficult than the video shows. On my Jeep, that breaker bar part with the pulley does not want to move. I'm literally standing on the breaker bar and it's barely budging. But was finally able to get it to move but had to put a lot of strength and effort on the breaker bar while my wife moved the belt off and on for me.

It takes some effort for sure because of that shock they added to the belt tensioner set up. That’s the main reason I have some long breaker bars

Nice work! Keep the JK videos coming please. Even if it is "replacing" something that didn't really need to be replaced. JK owners are pretty familiar with that concept.

Is it really necessary to remove the triangular bracket? I think you can just remove the two long screws holding the alternator to the engine and the two short screws holding the alternator to the triangular bracket. Thus leaving said bracket in place.
