This is a quick video to show you how to replace the alternator on your wrangler JK 3.6 from 2012 to 2017, this alternator replacement is very simple and it can take you from 45 min to 1 Hour, you are going to need someone to help you remove and reinstall the belt. I got here to find out how to change the belt. Anywho, to change the belt you have to take off the alternator completely so this is a great video to save for that as well.

Thanks for this tutorial, my alternator was whining and smoking 2 days ago and it took me 20 minutes to replace it once I got my parts and charged up my battery!

50k miles 2019. Alternator just went out. Never seen an alternator installed facing backwards. Interesting design from Jeep

@@jiriza84641 My Wife wrangler went out at 40k miles 🤬 so now I am here trying to figure how is this even possible. Got love Chrysler product. At least the location to replace it couldn’t be much easier.

Had to replace my tensioner assembly but this was the best video I could find to demonstrate how to get there. New assembly WILL NOT budge no matter how hard I pull that breaker bar when it came time to loosen the belt and get the alternator back on. it's a 1/2" and fits fine, don't see how that could be an issue. Now I'm stuck, unable to get my alternator back on.

Kind of weird that your Negative battery cable terminal was moving before you even loosened the nut for the clamp. Did you loosen it prior to recording? Looked like you had to put a little force on the nut to break it free.

@2015_Rubicnn: Yep. Unsurprisingly, the FCA factory battery cable terminal clamps are absolute trash. My buddy's 2012 Jeep Wrangler positive and negative post clamps were both loose as hell, even when the useless clamps were fully "tight". I cleaned everything up and then made some shims from aluminum tin foil, and then I pounded the clamps on the posts and tightened up the clamp nuts. Half-assed, I know, but it seems to be working pretty well. Yes, I know you can buy battery terminal post shims. Didn't have time to source them. Aluminum foil was readily available in the kitchen. I made the repair and we're done.

the alternator spins/is a moving part i was wondering if there are torque settings for the bolts or hand tight is good? dont want the bolts to come out while driving

How many miles did you have before it went? My 2014 has 45 thousand miles and i think it went, Won't Start!

Thanks anyways for the comment, My jeep only have 2700 miles and I already had to replace the battery, I guess thats bad luck lol

Dude... the music during the video was god-awful!!! Best way to watch it is with the sound off. Anyhow, thanks for the video though, as it gave me a quick overview of what to expect when I swap out the noisy junk bearings alternator and old alternator belt on my buddy's 2012 Jeep Wrangler with the 3.6L V6 in it.

How many miles . What issues did u have. And why did you buy OEM From dealership. Why not Autozone. On my 07 Jk I replaced my alternator at 73000 miles To soon if u ask me. Does anyone here know why the alternator went bad this soon. OlllllO 👍🏽🙂

Battery light on the dash is a good indicator. Test the battery, then if it's good it's the alternator. Two easiest parts on the vehicle, as far as getting power.

Ahh could care less on music just turn it off. The hardest part here is that tensioner as the video seems to imply a one man job an d no special tools. As a person doing it the first time Iam confused on how to get to it and what special tool is needed. everything else is straght forward. The hardest part seems glossed over

@@offroadnchill I know this is 4 years later but my alternator stopped working today after I went through a a swamp and got stuck for 2 minutes yesterday. Time for a new one.
