Truly appreciate your video! I just installed the dorman myself. Took a few days. 2015 JKU has 70k miles on it. Can't believe all the brittle plastic housing that could have fallen into the motor. Vacuum vacuum vacuum. My stealership quoted me $2k for this job. I can't imagine they'd worry too much about dirt and debris falling into the valve area. Mine was leaking coolant at the hose connection to the cooler. When I pulled the hose off, all the plastic came with it. Back on the road now!

Awesome video! This just happened to me after -12° in Chicago! I'm at 98,700 miles. Had no idea before why I was losing 1 quart of oil every 3,000 mile oil change. Must have been leaking, then -12° finished it off, oil everywhere. Your vid blows away the others for detail and a professional job. Another guy didn't drain coolant, went everywhere.

Just did this to a dodge ram with the 3.6 . Took about 4.5 hours. I wanted to replace the fuel injectors but didn’t. Used the all aluminum oil cooler and filter housing. Nice video for newbie’s like me . Thanks

Did this 4 years ago. Planning on swapping out for a new one again in the fall. This was a good refresher on the process. Although I don’t remember doing some Of the things pointed out but good video nonetheless.

If your CJDR vehicle has the 3.6 Pentastar. Watch for the big puddle of oil in the driveway after the oil change.

I must’ve missed something. Why are you replacing it? What goes bad on it? Is it just the gaskets leaking or is something else?

It was leaking oil. They they warp ink braille very easily. So it’s not worth trying to reuse them.

The oil filter housings are plastic. They crack and leak. The replacement OEM part is the same plastic POS. Some people opt for the Dorman aftermarket housing made of aluminum instead of plastic.

@diyoff-roading5012 Mine started leaking in -8° Chicago weather, didn't replace yet. Now that it's 50°-70°, it has stopped leaking. I googled and found two guys with same experience. I know I have to do the fix, but why no leaking in warm weather? Seals expand back to normal?
@andrewhuynh3265

@@SavageCode Did you ever figure this out, I moved to AK in 2021, noticed leaking when temps got below maybe zero degrees, and throughout winter (-30 - -40 deg), then when summer comes around it doesn't really leak as much.
@SavageCode
@SavageCode 4 месяца назад
@andrewhuynh3265 Upon further Google investigation, I believe the old seals become stiff and leak in the very cold weather. Mine has stopped leaking for now. I'll have to replace before Winter. I plan on replacing the housing with the Dorman aluminum whether it's cracked or not. From what I've been reading on the Internet, the Mopar seals are better, the correct size, etc.

Hey man loved the video. Just did the dreaded oil cooler replacment. All went as it should except my oil pressure. Around 80 on start up which is normal. Idle is 25-30 psi and was at 30-40 before. On the highway i noticed oil pressure was mid to high 90's at 3500 rpm or higher. Any thoughts ?
@diyoff-roading5012
@diyoff-roading5012 8 месяцев назад
Did you change the oil after the repair? Coolant could have mixed with the oil when you had the cooler off.
@joepandolfino4281
@joepandolfino4281 5 месяцев назад
The oil pump is 2 stage. When the engine is up to operating temperature, it will push 90 psi once the engine rpm’s hit 3500. Once below 3500 rpm it will revert to the lower psi 40ish. That’s normal.

@sheerwillsurvival2064 true on the oil coolers I like the all aluminum housing by dorman. But we mainly build engines of all kinds. I was mainly speaking on the lifter issue on the 3.6 pentastar and 5.7 hemi. The needle bearings fall out of roller in cam followers and eat camshafts up. But like I tell everyone everything tares up some more than others.

@@joesmo4749 yeah I wish a good American company like craine cams if they are even still around would make the roller rockers . But they are prone to failure especially if city driven low rpm a lot 👊🏻

Great video Brian. Do you happen to know how much a dealer would charge for the OEM part and the install? As you probably know, this is one of the very common problems with the Penestar V6. Wodering how well the aluminum aftermarket part holds up vs the pastic oem part.

When mine went, as did my rear main seal, both were covered by the Mopar Certified Pre Owned Powertrain Warranty, which is 7yr/100k miles, effective until April 2024 for my 2016 JKU 75th Anniversary Edition, but the bill was $2200 for both. I think it’s between $1100 and $1300 for the dealer to replace, but they will only use an OEM part, which they said when they did mine, was an improved unit, whatever that means. Anyway, if it goes again out of warranty, I will replace it with the Dorman or Mishimoto aluminum unit with Mopar gaskets/seals and Mopar sensors. I would do it myself, but sometimes I get impatient and I would be afraid I would crimp or not properly seat a gasket and end up in a worse situation.

@@queensapphire7717 Thanks so much !! It does look like they've improved the design.. but it's still plastic for the oil filter housing part. Whatever wrangler I get.. I doubt it will have any sort of warranty. Hoping the housing will have been replaced, but for sure will do what you did and get an all aluminum version. I doubt I could do it myself.. not that handy.

Why doesn’t Mopar use an aluminum unit ? They should partner with Dorman or Mishimoto. When they replaced mine (warranty), the dealer said it was an improved design and should not happen again, time will tell. Mine failed during the “The Great Crackening of 2022”, when we got that December 2022 cold blast in the Northeast and the temperature dropped 40° literally over a 6 hour period, 2 days later I had motor oil all over my bell housing and transmission pan, and I knew exactly what it was, 2 neighbors also suffered the same fate.
