I'd still choose a wagon over ugly crossovers.

Thank you for a wonderful video! I am the original owner of a 2012 TSX Wagon (non-Tech Pkg) in Forged Silver Metallic. Now with 247K. Having come from an A6 Avant and a V70R, it has been nothing short of spectacular on reliability and still continues to offer great handling and a smooth ride. Again- great video!

Picked up a mint white 2012 TSX Wagon for $9K. Original owner and babied. It did have 186K miles but it's seriously clean and my mechanic gave it the thumbs up. Replacing my old A3 TDI. It's not as torquey but it's more fun to drive with tons of room. Loving it!

I have the 2013 sedan, il be getting the sportwagon for sure soon. Also, premium gas is considered to be 91 octane or higher, so when it says premium recommended you CAN use premium but regular is fine, though mine noticeably runs worse with 87 so I just put 93 in. Shift at 7k, vtec on these engages at 6k from the factory. Boost it

Nice review. I have a 2012 TSX Sportwagon base, all black. I bought mine from our local Acura dealer back in 2015 as a certified pre-owned vehicle and it has never needed anything other than the usual fluid changes, brakes, and tires. It gets great MPG, is easy to service under the hood, and is very well balanced to drive. Everyone complains about the wagon not having been offered with the V6, but the TSX was the European and Japanese Domestic Market Accord and never really intended to have a V6 (the first gen cars were all four cylinders). The V6 sedans are fast in a straight line but they are nose heavy and are hard on front suspension bushings. A tuned four banger TSX will out-handle a V6. A spare was standard in the first two model years and then was replaced with the inflator kit and deep storage well. I bought the tire kit from my dealer, which came with a shallow version of the well. You can't put your lawn chair in it, but it will fit some smaller stuff. Thanks for reviewing a rare piece of Acura history and good luck with yours.
@taylorsgarage
@taylorsgarage 3 года назад
I never realized there was a tire kit for the later years, but had I known I may've opted for that rather than the inflator (though if I do pop a tire, I'd be able to relax by the side of the road). I haven't driven a V6 TSX, so I don't have the authority to say which one handles better, but I think you're pretty spot on about the tuned engine feeling better to drive than the V6. Though regardless, it'd still need a manual, which is easier said than done. Glad you enjoyed my rantings and ravings!

@@matsg91able Nothing other than running it on the recommended octane gas or better, fresh air filter once per year, Mobil 1 oil and filter, and properly aired Michelin tires. Has just over 104k on it. No work other than maintenance. Best car I've owned to date.

I have the same car. One correction: you could get the sedan with a V6 or 6 speed manual, but not both. The V6 had an auto trans.

That's very strange, but you're absolutely right. Seemed intuitive to have both rather than one or the other, at least to me. Thanks for pointing that out.

I would say they are very "spirited" when it comes to a sports car. I love wagons, been a big subi fan for years being out on OR. Currently driving a pos 2014 4runner.. This Monday I'm going to look at a silver tsx wagon with 52k miles on the engine for $17k. Honda platform. seems very reliable and practical with plenty of storage and space.

Had to watch your review when I saw it pop up on my screen. I have the same year and color wagon as you. My wife has a 2013 white wagon with the tech package. Hang on to this car. The K24 4 cylinder is one of Honda's best engines and the wagon was built in Japan. They are well equipped and well balanced. Like some others have said, they just need fluid changes, tires, brakes at usual intervals. These cars are bulletproof and mostly analog as opposed to stuffed with electronics like almost any current new vehicle. If you want more power, there are plenty of options for the engine under your hood. (Checkout Stanceworks on RU-vid. He is currently putting this engine in an older Ferrari) I don't know if I agree with your comment on the shifting. Both of mine shift fairly quickly and the shifts are smooth. The Acura dealer where we bought our cars said they have plenty of people who would by my wagon if I wanted to sell. My answer: no way.
@taylorsgarage
@taylorsgarage 3 года назад
I love the engine in the car, and while a little bit more stock umph would be fun (I'm no tinkerer), it's super resilient. I have no worries that the thing will keep on trucking for a long time. The shifting is a case-by-case basis. Usually, during low-speed acceleration, it just shifts a bit early and jerks a smidge. Most passengers wouldn't notice it at all, but I do, though it's nice to feel the car working.
@NBPT428
@NBPT428 3 года назад
@@taylorsgarage You might want to consider getting the jerking shift checked out. Shouldn't be doing that. You might catch something before it turns into a big problem. I haven't tinkered with mine other than lighter wheels and different tires. Good luck with yours. Enjoy the ride!

Great video, I really enjoyed your in depth commentary on most, if not all, of the features of the car. This definitely helped me with my future car purchase. I would recommend trying to get into a few more sports cars because you will find that the wagon, while it handles nicely, still suffers from its add weight. Otherwise your video had great pacing and I was engaged most of the time. Keep up the good work!

@taylorsgarage
@taylorsgarage 3 года назад
The Mazda 3, at least from what I've read/what I've heard, is a super fun car at a reasonable price. Cheap to maintain, fun in the bends, and comes in a stick. Granted, the TSX Wagon has a bigger trunk and packs a bit more horsepower depending on what trim you're looking at, the Mazda would be loads cheaper to buy and run. Makes it a great first car for students too, as they're pretty safe. Would love to get my hands on one!

Im looking to getting this car for my first car, Would you recommend it?
@taylorsgarage
@taylorsgarage 3 года назад
From a first car point of view, my biggest complaint is that it's expensive to fuel (and us highschool grads aren't made of money). A regular Honda would be cheaper overall (since this is technically a luxury brand). It's also not fast, or cool, so if you're looking to impress the ladies a mom wagon probably won't do the trick. However, I'd totally recommend the car. From a practical standpoint, it's hard to beat. Just before college, I jammed all my earthly possessions in the trunk and drove from MD to FL with no troubles at all. And with the right amount of upkeep, the TSX can last you a long time. Glad you enjoyed the video, and I truly hope this review helps you on the search for your first car!

Will a spare tire fit (hidden) if you remove the trunk liners?
@taylorsgarage
@taylorsgarage 3 года назад
Yes! If you remove the storage bin, the innards of the trunk are identical to that of the 2011 model. You can find spares in parts catalogs pretty easily, too, just can't keep a vacation kit as well.

@@taylorsgarage I'm about 5'7 and 250lbs and there are hardly any for sale near me in Michigan. I'm just trying to get an idea because right now I'm driving a Dart and not a big fan on how small it is. Just want something with space and being a wagon.
@taylorsgarage
@taylorsgarage 3 года назад
@@AzenBerries That's part of what makes the car special, how hard it is to find. That being said, don't let them overcharge you. A good used Sportwagon can be had in the 10-14 grand region. The Sportwagon has room in it, and it's certainly better than a dart (I've sat in one and I felt small).
