Here's my thought: if you kip your hspu's in a lot in training, it's only gonna set you back n competition. I understand the importance of coordination and all that when you kip. But I feel like a lot of people blur the line between that and building fundamental strength. Same with pullups. the less You kip, the stronger you'll be, the better you'll do in competition. I feel like a lot of people in crossfit tend to miss that concept.
this video illustrates the problem w/ Crossfit: racing through lifts ensures bad form and eventual injury. The winner of this event had HORRIBLE form - lifting the heavy ball nearly 100% w/ her back, and guess what, she herniated a disk in her back (likely here and elsewhere). No surprise here.
and I suppose SEAL training is bad for fitness BC they lose form during training to exhaustion.. Injury comes with the life of extreme fitness. You recover and come back better if possible. Competitions are not always for who can do the most perfect sets that's for training.. but as with this (work capacity) who can do the most in a given time period the fastest. Or the fastest time(speed) or go for the longest period of time . (endurance) or the most and longest at a steady pace(stamina) or the most weight (power) or flexability and body weight control(functional strength /gymanstics) or flexability and agility(yoga). you try and keep form but in an all competition you never ever quit even when you can't do it perfectly. Or "safely" . I guarantee these athletes train safely and with proper form. Or most do or wouldn't make it here. With nutrition body care and such. Injury still happens. So stop trying to belittle crossfit athletes for the sake if your pride.
drew crosland that's the point: they don't train safely w/ proper form at all. just start looking all all the videos, awful form is the common denominator. many are showing up w/ back injuries - that do not get better w/o surgery or a non-athletic lifestyle. has nothing to do w/ pride you dolt.
+jack ol'bean. Really? "all he videos" or just the ones you want to choose to remember. I see plenty of well coached crossfit athletes and videos that are educational. I DO see a few where they have thief own preferences to hand placements feet width etc . Answerthiscrossfit us a sport as well as a fitness program right? When doing it for fitness firm and techniques are key. In sport? Well can you not read? Do football athletes NEVER get hurt? Its inherent in competetion is my point. Whether due to from , well placed hit , accidental slide, personal could, dirty slide, all things not encouraged or followed in practice or training. But it happens. Here's my point dolt, (who the fuck says that?) these athletes, and the majority of those seriously doing crossfit for sport or fitness follow correct form and training styles. Not all do, but you can't judge a majority by its minority. And you do this, and see if your not willing to sacrifice possibly some body comfort for success at a competition. I doubt you would you don't sound like a competative person. You literally disputed nothing. Cheers.
I've watched a LOT of video of cross fit COACHES - they are constantly rounding out their backs, lifting w/ their backs = dangerously bad form. Bottom line is, race-lifting is dumb, race-lifting heavy is asking for a back injury, which is hardly a "sacrifice of some body comfort" but a life-altering injury. Feel free to continue w/ the bravado tough guy. But be sure to update here WHEN you F up your back and regret ever setting foot in a cross fit gym.
as I have not seen those videos I will not argue that. However. You seem to lack knowledge of body injury and prevention. On top of that. How would you explain the world class cross fitters WITHOUT a back injury? Or the coaches rounding out backs as you say (which is ok to some extent depending on foot placements and exercise . More lack of knowledge on your part.) that do not have back injuries? Where is your crusade then? your speaking from an outside perspective without much first hand experience or knowledge. If crossfit was causing such mass injuries as you claim it would be irrelevant in fitness. Seeing as how special operators and other federal agencies use it for fitness. Your points are invalid
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I think Kristan Clever is beautiful. A woman who may look masculine can still be beautiful and to each their own.
Key word "I don't know"... Kipping isn't bad form, it actually helps your body push itself to its limits. The only thing bad about kipping is when people arch their backs while doing it.
And...yes...I have been doing what you called CrossFit for decades to complement my real training during recovery weeks. We just did not call it CrossFit...we called it Olympic weightlifting + Cardio craziness!!! are never started bragging that we are extremely strong and fit or that we look nice...we just care about the goals and achieving and winning...not about looking nice without t-shirt!!!!
Crossfit is based more on explosive short movements and less raw, almost isolated, muscular power. These won't build as much muscular strength as a "normal" solid handstand push up, but they will build explosive power and engage you CV more than the soild push ups. If your against the kipping for explosive full body movements, why are you watching cross fit videos? Not having a go, just curious
I'm taking it as you are not a crossfitter. Us crossfitters are extremely strong and fit. Things people like you say on youtube doesn't bother us. Since we know that we can do things you can't. We have our own definition of beauty in the sport.
Just b/c Kristan Clever chooses not to leave her hair long doesn't make her not a woman. She's beautiful and a great athlete. I think it's time to stop critiquing and limiting the way woman want to represent themselves.
I dont do bicep curls lol and half parallel squats? i squat ass to grass not half way shit. i got nothing against crossfit... but if you take away the momentum how much strength would they have? thats all im saying.
You have never tried it. Its not about pure strength, its about intensity and repetition. To do that every movement needs to be as efficient as possible. Repeatable and Measurable. Don't mock it, go try it. Amazing workouts in under 30 minutes. Try Grace, or Fran, or hell, do Murph.
I got my hair buzzed and looked like a 13 year old boy for 2 years in a row. I'm short, athletic and do not put on makeup at all. And at that time, I was dating an attractive athletic guy (lots of weight training, running and football). Just because you can't date a girl unless all your mates have confirmed she's "fuckable" doesn't mean all guys are as shallow as you are.
This would be like saying Miss America is a sport because the contestants do cardio so that they can look slim for the bikini shoot. Miss America requires hard work, just as Bodybuilding does. I never said that hard work wasn't a necessary component. Gymnastics is subjectively judged, but requires at least a display of speed, strength, balance, and agility. Bodybuilding does none of this. It's a competition purely based on cosmetics. It is a pageant, and nothing more.
You have just given the Hadron Collider of circular arguments... For someone that dislikes bodybuilding your knowlege of Jay Cutlers lifting technique is quite in depth. I dont know where you are from but here in the Uk and in Europe, especially eastern Europe if you say you do crossfit you will be laughed out of the gym. The idea of crossfit is actually a good idea, high intensity interval training is a great way to exercise but when you see what crossfit has done to it, you just cringe.
As long as trolls like you keep commenting on the videos about something you apparently don't care about, it will never go away! Yes, and people getting healthy is something we should totally be upset about. Not the obesity rate of children in this country, but someone doing an exercise you don't like.
Looks crossfit does indeed get you fit.. But the whole kipping thing and breaking proper form for the sake of speed gets me.. Why not just do proper form calisthenics + cardio on other days. Each to their own I guess, if cross fit is your thing that's cool
Crossfit is nothing but circuit training. It's been around forever and tons of athletes do it, or similar type of protocol. No, I don't hate bodybuilding at all, I just recognize it for what it is, and accept it for what it is not. There are legitimate criticisms of CF, but these legitimate concerns are rarely brought up. Your typical CF hater will hate on kipping for example, while bodybuilders will throw their backs into a lat pull down & half squat with barely whimper from CF bashers.
Ok sounds good. As soon as I get back home I'll take a video of me doing a pull up and upload it. Than you can stop complaining about everything in crossfit. Thank you.
Seriously? No one even says it isn't beautiful or something. She just really doesn't look that feminine because of her hard to notice curves, male looking jaw-line and the really short hair.
Everyone has the right to their own opinion but Carne De Lagarto have you never been told if you have nothing nice to say don't say it at. Any one would think Kristen was a witch from the 1800's.
Any woman can have her hair cut anyway she wants!!! and no man shou7ld impose his ways to any woman...However, that does not mean we men are going to find it attactive... and of course we men have a narrow definition of beauty...what are you expecting? it is not our fault...it is millions of years of evolution
Never said anything contrary and, sure I've seen people like her. I have no problem with that and in everyday life I would treat her like everyone else... ;-)
and I disagree with your POV. Crossfit athletes are extremely strong and extremely fit. You compare them to other "elite athletes or Olympic athletes". What other sport requires tests of strength and endurance, concurrently, in the manner that crossfit does? None that come to mind. It's either strength OR endurance, and rarely both at the same level of intensity that these crossfit athletes perform.
Seriously guys? You can't get over the fact that an elite female athlete has her hair cut short? Maybe you didn't notice but this clip is from 2012. Well past time to wake up and stop imposing your narrow definition of beauty on every woman.
That doesn't make a lick of sense. CF is not a worldview that is concerned with the fundamental nature of reality. All sports are just arbitrary tasks with a set of rules to decide the winner. Crossfit is no different. Competitive eating is a sport, so is ping pong. This is more like a normal sport than either of those. Care to guess what isn't a sport? Bodybuilding.
GO Kristin Clever! If you want to see how tough that woman is check out the SEAL fit videos, she hang with the men in some training that woudl kill most guys
Well, I seriously don't want to hate on her. But you can't blame people for thinking she (#10) looks a guy. I mean... even at the 2nd and 3rd glance I couldn't identify her as a woman. Having said that, I think it's no reason to hate her or anything. :-)
My statement made perfect sense. Also your argument is very ignorant as competetive eating is not touted as a healthy sport unlike CF which is touted as a sports revelation, untill of course you look into it. Any orthopaedist or chiropractor will tell you CF is suicide for your joints. Figure skating and gymnastics are based on subjective judging on the aesthetic of what those athletes do. Those activities are considered sports and participants are called athletes. Ergo Bodybuilding is a sport.
Yes, I can curl just as skillfully as Jay Cutler. Actually, I probably curl better than he does because he usually has terrible form on his other lifts. Bodybuilding does not require the ability to lift heavy weights, or objectively proper form. It doesn't even require that you perform certain lifts. It only requires that you grow muscles and shed fat. Whatever strength or fitness gains that come from BBing are purely incidental.
" archery, shooting, dressage are all Olympic sports based on training and ability." These can all be judged by an objective standard, so they are sports. Competitive Chess is also a sport. Running 10 miles a day is not a sport. Competitive long distance running is a sport. At any rate, cross fit is a display of training, athletic ability, strength and conditioning. There are objective standards for winning. It's hardly worthy of being called the Scientology of sports.
Nah, that short hair thing isn't true. I know several guys (including myself) who like short hair on a woman. Or, actually, don't give a sh*t if the hair is short or not, that's probably more accurate. What counts is the woman herself. ;-)
Courtney...with respect I disagree with your comment that crossfitters are extremely strong and fit. If fact, if this group of elite crossfitters are the best the crossfit comunity have to affer, it is pretty sad....they have no endurance...did you see the running events? they were walking !!! and cannot keep their heart rate above zone 4 for more than 1 minute and are out!!! they are not even close to other elite athletes or olympic athletes...so NO...they are not the fittest on earth.
You're right. Let's all go watch tv like everyone else and contribute to the 5.3 million premature deaths per year due to inactivity. I can't wait until THAT fad is gone.
The people that own and run my crossfit gym are chiropractors, obviously certain movements can be dangerous if performed with poor technique/form......but in general crossfit isn't "suicide for your joints" if you're doing it the right way.
Starting at 8:40... really... you could have taken a fucking break instead up attempting and failing like 5 times. Take a 30 second break and get the rep.
What is so impressive about this? I really don't get how this makes you the "fittest on Earth". Why do these "Athletes" think they are the best on earth. Get under the bar!
