Great video….thanks for not playing any lame music or anyone talking during this flight demo., you let the bad ass Wright R3350 radial engine…make all the music we war bird lovers want to hear…keep ‘em flyin’
love your filming to many people upload prop planes with the wrong cam settings and when you watch the videos the props look like they are hardly turnning well done. mick uk.
A great plane and a nice video but it's not an AD-5W. AD-5Ws had APS-20 radar and a large radome between the wheels which gave it a pregnant guppy look when viewed from the side, hence they were called Guppies. I was an AT-2, assigned to VAW-12, and an airborne radar operator aboard the Valley Forge, Lake Champlain, and Essex in the late 50s and early 60s. (I think its current designation is A-1E)
It could have been, when I was aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt [1960] we had one that had most of the equipment in the rear of the compartment removed and replaced with a winch used to tow aerial targets for the destroyers to shoot at. I got a ride in it one day. Later when I was stationed at NAS Quonset Point, RI, I saw a number of variants, had an O&R for the models.
I agree, it's not an AD-5W; probably an AD-5N. I have many hours in the AD-5Q from my time in the USN in the late 50's. The Q variant was equipped for ECM missions. A great airplane for sure!
very sad; an obnoxious way to damage in an irreversible way an airplane like douglas skyrider with such a canopy for a passenger. there are things in life that are not to be changed.
