2012 Goldwing Final Drive Oil Change

After 10,000 miles since my last change at a dealer I decided to change the final drive oil myself. Lots of other videos out there as well but thought I'd record what I did. Only cost was the Honda Oil and a $4 Meat Infuser found at Walmart. Worked well!

Any "fluid" in the "weep hole" of the rear hub is an indicator of the rear hub seals going bad. When I purchased my 2012, back on Thanksgiving of 2019, the dealership checked it over and informed me that the "weep hole" on my rear hub had "fluid" in it, and therefor indicated the seals in the rear hub were going bad. They replaced the rer hub under my purchase warranty which was great. I would keep an eye on yours. Most anyone that has coverted their Wing to a Trike, has a rear hub for sale, if you need one, and most dealerships that perfrom that task, have them for cheap prices.

I had watched a couple of other videos and wondered if turning the wheel (final drive gears) to get a really good drain of all the fluid. I see that you had read the procedure and that was recommended. Would the same apply on fill up?

I did slightly at which you can see at the 7 min mark.

@@SchafferTwins Thanks...yes...I just drained mine a few minutes ago and didn't really see a large amount come pouring out after I rotated the wheel. I will do the rotation on fill up and make sure all is covered well.

@@goldwingconepatterns2565 Do not rotate the wheel to get more oil IN the unit - this can cause an over fill - if it is over full you will see oil coming out of the vent tube at the top of the final drive - if the internal seal blows you will see oil coming from the weep nipple on the bottom - a bit low is better than a bit too much - change often - it's cheap and easy .
