Learn how to change the oil on a Honda Goldwing GL1800. The Goldwing is a bigger bike, and so we’ll put the motorcycle up on the stand for this job. First, we’ll remove three covers to access the oil filter and drain bolt, and then we’ll drain the old oil. Then, we’ll replace the old oil filter. Then, we’ll refill the engine. How much oil does a Goldwing GL1800 take? It’ll take just shy of four quarts, and John will show you how to set the level precisely. Finally, we noticed some missing panel clips and pan screws when we removed the covers, so John will replace them before wrapping up.

The drain plug and filter are easily accessible without removing the front fairings. The type of filter wrench used here can also be used with the fairing on

I am sure that the owner appreciates that you put the correct parts back in. I hate it when people do "just enough" to get by.

Thanks for including the torque spec (19 lbf-ft) for the oil filter. In case anyone needs this, the Owner's Manual for the 2003 GL1800 also states the torque spec for the drain plug is 25 lbf-ft.

The aftermarket makes a nifty angled oil filter/plug wrench. This allows an oil change without removing the front cover.

I have changed the oil in my 06 GL1800 15 times and never removed the lower cowl. Just remove the front section of the belly pan snd everything accessible

Nice bike! Alas it has too many covers from the engine before accessing the important replaceables!! i love the first 500km smooth joy of riding just after we change oil on any bike!!

There's really no need to remove the lower cowl. I can easily remove the drain plug and filter by leaving it intact.
@PartzillaParts
@PartzillaParts 6 лет назад
The manual says to remove it, we try to stick to the manufacturer recommendations. You can get in there without removing the cowl, but it's pretty tight.

Partzilla Probably hard to film also with the fairings in place.

@@PartzillaParts you bear liability these days if you do anything not OEM. As others have said, removal of the extra parts is a waste of time and risks damage to the machine. Either way... nice video. Thx Did I miss the installation of a new crush washer?

@@PartzillaParts it's a piece of piss. The manual is for people who don't know what they are doing. Also fill the oil filter as well with oil before replacing.

I’m wondering what molley is in the HP40 SYNTHETIC OIL? How do I know if my oil has this additive? You didn’t mention replacing the aluminum compression washer on the drain plug. I’d like the Honda part number.

Hi, I know this will be off topic for this video, but I have a 08 CBR 600 RR and I was wondering if anyone could recommend some fairings and some bolts to go with them. I would like oem, but i had them priced and it was a couple thousand dollars and I just can’t spend that. If someone could help me I would appreciate it.

Sould you fill the oil filter up with oil, before putting it back on? Also sould the washer be changed on the oil plug after every oil change?
@PartzillaParts
@PartzillaParts 5 лет назад
The crush washer should be changed each time according to the manufacturer. Filling the filter with oil can be done, but is not necessary

Is checking the oil without screwing in the dipstick a 'Wing thing, Honda, or typical for dipstick equipped bikes in general?

It's typical for any screw in dipstick type oil gauge

Defintely !! Also let that filter absorb oil for a while ... It's the first thing I do before starting the oil change, the paper medium soaks up alot of oil ! Lol

Also smear oil on the filter gasket to ensure a good seal.

Same reason he didnt let all the oil drain out and he used a 12" extention to torque an oil filter? Who does that? That actual torque spec will be off with that long of an extention and besides always spin it down till it touches and then 3/4 turn. He is a hack

Help me out here. Is there no one out there who is going to make some basic videos on maintaining the 2018,19 wings. I am all for free market and capitalism, but is there some sort of agreement with the fellows selling the maintenance packages that no other you tubers will make said videos?
@PartzillaParts
@PartzillaParts 4 года назад
No, they are just a pain and no one wants to put the time in. Anyone can make maintenance videos if they have the time and effort.
