2012 Honda Civic Reverse Camera using the IMID Screen (OEM Screen)

IMID Screen reverse camera integration and a Compustar 2-way remote starter.
We just completed a reverse camera install on this 2012 Honda Civic sedan. The unique part of this install was that we interfaced the camera through the OEM Honda display screen, otherwise known as the IMID display.
The screen automatically switches over to the reverse camera image when the car is put in reverse, keeping everything neat, simple, and clean.
The client brought us the camera, which we installed, but we do carry reverse cameras of all types here at Lockdown Security as well.

We also installed a Compustar RF-2W703SH with FT-7200SCONT remote starter on this vehicle as well.

Go into the settings menu for the IMID screen, you can turn the guidelines off there.

The top screen probably has failed, and needs to be tested, or swapped with a new screen

Yes but not the way we have done it in this video. You would need an interface module (we do not sell it) or change the NAVI head unit to an aftermarket version.

kevin brown Hi Kevin, if you have the Si with nav you can't add a back up camera in the way shown in the video, you would need the OEM Honda camera as far as we know, or a specific vehicle interface, which we do not sell. The Civics with OEM navigation cannot have the camera show up in the IMID screen, it will not work.

It does when you use the harness we sell, or the kit we sell. But from Honda without our kit, no, there is NO RCA connector.

Why was the camera placed on the left and not in the middle?

The handle for opening the trunk is in the middle, as are the plate lights, so we placed the cam on the left.

i Just did an install for the reverse camera, but when i put my car in reverse theres no image wht so ever, but if i press menu and source for about 5-10seconds i can see my rear camera. Any Help PLS.

JP Still havent found any solutions, but i have posted a video of how i use mine, i installed front and a rear camera with a toggle switch. (I left the diagnostic screen on at all times while im driving) But after i posted that video i installed an after market android headunit, and wired all my cameras to the headunit. Now im planning on installing side cameras that will display on the imid screen. Hope that helps, and feel free to ask any questions.

Hayley Hampton Hi Hayley yes you should be able to, as long as you have the IMID screen and the vehicle does NOT have the OEM (Honda) in-dash navigation head unit (radio), then you can do this modification

+rellik187redrum Yes this modification gives you a single RCA input which turns on when you trigger the reverse input with 12 volts, it is an RCA input *but* there are guidelines on the screen when activated

Lockdown Security I have a 2014 civic si with nav that is lowered and I want to put a camera on the front bumper so I don't smack into curbs similar to the new corvettes. I already have a back up camera that is connected to the factory nav system but I still have the IMID screen that can use a backup camera via the diagnostic menu. Is there a way to wire a camera on a switch that would use the IMID screen to display the front of the car?

We used a Rydeen brand back up camera, but any camera will work

Hi Doug, Civics with factory navigation CANNOT have a camera hooked up to the IMID screen. It will not auto switch on when in reverse, or when the reverse trigger wire is activated. You CAN connect the camera, but its a huge pain in the ass to view as you have to go into the IMID settings menu to turn the input on, you;d have to do this everything you wanted to view the front bumper camera, which you;d get sick of doing. Best bet: Install an LCD rear view mirror (rear view mirror with an LCD mirror in it) and run the camera to that.

+depecheddurand Unfortunately the NAVI (navigation) equipped vehicles will not work with this modification, we have tried and it does not work due to the way the car is configured, due to the navigation system from Honda

+depecheddurand Yeah it doesn't make much sense, we have seen an interface adaptor available for the navi equipped models but we do not currently carry it, best bet is to Google search for it

one guy gave me an option to do it through back view mirror but it looks ugly whats the point of two screens :/
