2012 Mini Cooper S R56 Broken Antenna Base Replacement 

Jymn, thank you so much for making this video! I just finished replacing mine today. First, it's best to use socket size 19-mm. I just couldn't get mine to due to the socket length too short. Fortunately, the 3/4-in works as well. And the one I have is long enough for me to use. The antenna kit was not tightened too tight. It can be loosen just by hand and socket alone without the ratchet (at least in my case). Second, I have a 2014 Clubman. For those who try to do this on the Clubman, I have these tips/comments. For one, you don't need to remove the frame of the sunroof. You can get to it from the back panel. The antenna kit is close enough to the back that you can reach in with your hand. However, you will need to pull the rubber seal out around the top and half-way down the sides. You'll also have to remove one clip that holds the ceiling panel to the roof. It's located near the center where the two back doors meet. Once removed, you should have enough room to work on pulling the wires and putting everything back. Putting the metal bracket/screw back was the hardest thing for me. But it's doable. Thanks again for posting this. It gave me the courage to work on it myself!

Wow! Thank you so much. The dealership was going to charge over $600.00 to replace and install. I watched your video and thought, i can do that. I ordered my base and antenna for under $200.00 and installed this morning using your video and mirrors. Saved over $400.00.

Hey Jymn, you are the best! I finally did it, it took me a couple of weeks to find a good condition antenna base and not expensive, and it arrived today. As you said, took me around 40 mins to change it, it was a little tricky to remove the inside panel of the sunroof, but nothing else. Thanks again for the video!

Thanks for the video & all fitted. However, mine only has the blue block connnector inside the headlining. So the white one (3rd wire) goes nowhere as it's a generic BMW/Mini part to fit others, but my issue is i have no pink block in the car? All very odd & BMW are looking into it. I did connect the blue-blue & try the Satnav, but sama as you i'm still around 200 miles off track. I wonder if disconnecting the battery would have same effect as an OBD?

Could you theoretically do this job by going between the roof and headliner on the trunk where that weathering strip you say not to take off is? I have an '07 Mini, same problem occurred where the car wash busted off the antenna and ripped the screw out of the base so the whole thing needs replacing, but I don't have a sunroof... So I'm thinking my only option is to go through the rear trunk and try it that way.

Thanks for the video, it seems a little complex. I broke mine two days ago, where did you buy the antenna base replacement? Depending of the complexity, do you recommend to do it ourselves, or take it to the MINI service (for sure it will not be cheap)

Dang. I did not know what I was getting into. Mine is damaged from going to carwashes by previous owners. I got the new base but I not know how to remove and replace. My 2014 Clubman has no sunroof. It’s a base model with no GPS, etc. (Mini manual tells me no automatic car wash. Now I know why.) The number of wires differs as the R55 Mini has no GPS or the cellphone wires. The base replacements vary from 60USD to 120USD. The diff is in the GPS and cellphone antenna. Crikey.
