Southampton, England 2012.
A walk around Southampton's Queensway area in April 2012, including inside the East Street Shopping Centre (EaSTreet) and the southern end of Queensway which has since been redeveloped.

Once I heard that the shopping centre was to close, I decided to go for a walk with my camera to document what it looked like inside and out, and also capture on camera what the local area looked like, including the former site of The Nexus nightclub which was being redeveloped, and the derelict McClusky's International and New York New York nightclubs.
I used to park at the East St Shopping Centre car park, which was on the roof of the building, accessed via a ramp from Lime St. The shopping centre never seemed that busy, and was used by a lot of people as a thoroughfare.
I remember playing in the tunnel under the stairs when I was young. There was once a Tandy electrical shop in there, and when I bought my first house, I purchased some of my furniture from the discounted Furniture Reject Shop. I remember the Half Price Jewellers being the most busy shop in there, and also visited The Royal Oak pub a few times.
Much like Southampton's Bargate Shopping Centre, The East St Shopping Centre suffered from the slow migration of Southampton's main shopping areas as new, and bigger shopping centres like WestQuay, and The Marlands were built.
Read a short story about the East St Shopping Centre written by Heritage Writer, Ian Crump on the Southern Daily Echo's website on Thursday 18th June 2020:

Excerpts from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southam... :
"The centre was constructed in the 1970s and due to its location - outside the main city centre shopping district - was never commercially successful. As well as the shopping centre, the development included a large office tower, rooftop car park and the Royal Oak pub."
"In mid 2013, the centre was closed to the public and demolition began in October 2013. The original redevelopment was for a new Morrisons food store and an open pedestrian thoroughfare re-linking St Mary's back to the city centre. However, in late 2014, De Stefano Property Group, the landowners of the demolished site, went into administration and Morrisons announced in March 2015 they were closing loss making stores on the back of poor trading results. Finally in June 2015, Morrisons officially confirmed they would not be building a new store on this site."
I often visited The Nexus nightclub on club nights, and also went to a couple of gigs there, including Skindred in February 2006, about a year before it closed. Me and my group of friends also drank at Bar Coda, which was joined to The Nexus sometimes before they opened the door to the club.
New York's and McClusky's nightclubs at the far south end of Queensway closed in June 2004 due to a number of complaints. The owner, who had recently purchased the club decided to close it, and applied to redevelop the site into a residential area (which is what's there today), but his plans were initially made difficult by a number of factors; including the 2008 financial crash.
He later applied to reopen the clubs as a topless nightclub, but those plans met a wave of objections from local residents and business owners, and were thrown out. Demolition of the buildings eventually began at the end of 2013, and the site is now a mixture of houses and apartments.
