I love your channel, It's given me perspective on cars that I'm considering purchasing, and ones I've driven to remind me. Its a battle between the Fiat 500, and the Beetle Turbo. The Golf, is pretty close tho.

I did an ECU upgrade through Revo and my local dealer. The R was impressive prior and is truly amazing now. It would be a good decision!

Agreed. Had a GTI, too w/ DSG. I might add that a manual is a h-ll of a lot more fun to drive. I also really like having AWD.

Just bought a Golf R. Tight, responsive car. Not blazing fast off the line, but spunky would be apt way of putting it. Once up to speed, taut steering, but I wish the gear shifter was shorter, sportier. The exhaust note is gleeful motor music! Seats are like space shuttle seats, the bolstering is very comfortable. Suspension keeps the car glued to the road on highway ramps.

Maybe it's the car, or maybe its just the road, but your new video of the 2010 GTi really makes the 2010 seem like the better sports car (to me). Though having never driven either, I might be wrong. What do you think "Winding Road?"

4 wheel drive! some more power much bigger brakes, the 4motion must really weld it to the road. I have Eibach sways and pro kit springs, on my GTI, I would put them on this when I get one it would be a baby Porsche! GTI is flawless, the added 4wd really adds stability.

Oh look at you. I hit a nerve huh? Actually the new generation haldex systems don't require slip anymore. They can transfer power to the rear before slip happens based on various sensors like throttle angle, yaw angle, etc. The point I was making is the Porsche 911 awd cars, Lambo Aventador and the Bugatti Veyron uses the same system (although they are rear biased), so obviously they are legit AWD systems. Plus you get the added benefit of fuel economy.

I'm really consdering a 2013 R purchase. I thought it had the same motor as the GTI, but its it's a TTS motor. APR and other tuners do amazing things with those things. The R is much more beefed up on the bottom, its visually noticable as well as being pushed in the corners. I've drove an mk4 R32 back to back to the R and altough the R32 felt faster, i was taking fast sweepers 15-20mph quicker with the R. I really dislike having all the electornic nannies always on :( Focus St to drive next.

A $25K WRX isn't going to get you even close to the daily driving/touring luxury or solid feeling that the Golf R will and most road track times I've seen put the WRX behind it. STi doesn't exactly stomp it on road times either. I cross shopped STi Limited, GTI Autobahn and Golf R and for me the R was the most fun to drive on the twisties and the most comfortable DD. Definitely worth the ~$6K in price over the GTI IMO, and getting ~24.5mpg mixed/27mpg highway w/ only 1k miles on it.

Hrm... doesn't sound anywhere near as good as the Focus ST. Nice interior though, just a bit to pricy - does it feel faster than the ST?

The engine "sound" is fake - it's made by the "Soundaktor" VW installed behind the dashboard. It's just a speaker that goes vroooom vroooom when you push on the gas pedal. It was put in for VW for people who like to rev the engine and hear engine sounds. (There is little to no real engine sound.) It only projects the sound into the car so it is only noise for the driver and passengers to listen to. No need to push the pedal to impress people outside.

Everyone keeps speaking of fake engine sound from the speakers. As far as I'm understanding, there's a sound induction tube directed inside the cabin via the cars intake, similar to the Focus ST, that emits intake noise into the cabin, therefore you hear more sound than the car is actually making to the outside world. I'm sure if the sound were faked, it'd be a lot better sounding than what I'm hearing, no offense to VW nor their 2.0 turbo motor.

I've yet to drive a -german made- VW that let me down. The american models are kinda meh, but the Taureg/CC/Golf/GTI....they're fantastic.

Stage 4 tune w/ new gearing it might hit 200mph under its own power. My MINI Cooper S had 160 mph on the speedo. Only way to hit that would be to drop it out of a plane.

Okay this is coming from a mitsubishi guy. i love the quality of ride volkswagen gives you, i think its priced correctly , alot better priced than the STI is from subaru, for what you get you get a really good bang for the buck in my opinion. The interior is literally like an audi's maybe even cooler, its got some kick to it, but for a 35k tuner car, 256 hp is not alot stock, not very fast at all really. The exterior is weird looking but its okay. Like the car, but never will own.

Its really not. The Evo and STi are both around same price, and although faster and more race specific they lack the interior and build quality of this car. I had a GTI and now have a Golf R. This is so much nicer to drive in every sense. Its faster, better interior, better suspension way more boost. Totally different cars even though they are build from the same base

Actually, it doesn't. This "AWD" system DOES make this car better. But it's not a true AWD system like a WRX or Evo.

So I guess the 911 (4s, turbo etc) and the Bugatti Veyron don't have true AWD systems either then. lol Saying the Golf R is front biased is one thing, calling it a fake AWD system is just ignorant.

New golf R for me is not special becose is only golf . R have got BIG hungry for PB .Sux speed to 100 KM on H .And very suuuxxx 2x4 .and very ekspensive . buy this is only my opinion .Better is frs or cupra r.
