Definitely a significant improvement over stock pipes. It looks like they still had baffles installed, no? I'd be curious to hear what they sound like without the baffles. I' just picked up a Yamaha Raider. The baffles were loose so I removed them. It was way too loud, but I rode it around for a while and was able to control the sound just by exercising a bit more restraint with the throttle. The 1600 and 1700 Road Star motorcycles are probably one of the best sounding bikes I've ever heard. i say this as someone who used to be a die hard Harley rider. For styling, affordability, reliability and sound quality, I don't think you can beat that Road Star softail.

Hey David! Thanks for the comment and congrats on your new Roadie! I love my bike!!! Such a beast!!! The Cobra Slip-ons are fantastic! Unfortunately, I reside in a community that has strict HOA rules regarding noise. So, I just put my stock mufflers back on. The Cobras are virtually new and in near perfect condition. If you're interested, let me know, as I plan on putting them up for sale on eBay very soon. I'll be pricing them to sell.

Emond, I Think Road Stars look like monsters on wheels! Love my Roadie! It's fantastic and smooth out on the open road. The chassis and suspension set-up are second to none.

Further David. I did add the AIS removal kit and a Cobra processor which I located under my seat.

I really like my Star too. Yours is a beauty but I am afraid to say mine looks and sounds much better. I have a Silverado with straight pipes, chameleon paint job, windshield, trunk, saddle bags, driver backrest, oil cooler and to top it all off, I have a sock monkey on my back. I always had people asking what kind of bike it is, they almost always guessed it to be a Harley Davidson. I put some beautiful brushed stainless Briggs & Stratton decals on the air cleaner and left side clutch cover. That gets a few laughs but its amazing how many people say they didn't know Briggs made motorcycles and others say they never hear of Briggs & Stratton. Well its the best sounding lawn mower engine I ever heard and it runs like a scalded dog. I removed the AIS garbage off my 1700 Road Star. The .357 SIG was perfect for plugging the holes. I was not about to pay $25 for two pieces of steel to cover the AIS holes in the heads. Cutting the end off the old tube to hold 38 Special or .357 Magnum brass in place would work too as they have a rim on the end of the brass to prevent them from falling in the hole. I used a 1/2' drive socket extension and a heavy duty hammer to pound the 357 SIG brass into the heads, leaving about 1/4" exposed in case they ever need to be removed. It was a really tight fit which makes a perfect seal. Don't try a 9MM as they will fall into the hole and you will need to suck it out using a hose. I used nickel plated Winchester brass which should last for a long time. .40 S&W might also work if you crimp the end to get them started. For those who are afraid of guns... pussy bitches shouldn't be riding motor scooters to begin with, so what the fuck are you doing? Sell it and go see the Schwinn dealer near you.

Hey jojojeep1, Thanks for your comment. Funny, while slight, I wondered what that noise was. I started hearing that after I changed out the stock exhaust to the Cobra slip-ons, I added the big air kit, removed the AIS, and added a Cobra Fi2000 PowrPro fuel-injection tuner. It could have been there before but I just didn't hear because the stock exhaust system was so darn quiet. What else could cause that? I have read on forums that it could be the oil type, other valve or cam issues, or could it just be an inherent noise on the design of late model Road Star 1700s??? Thanks!

Get On The Throttle Richard Einstein Sorry about the sound comment, I was just thinking about your living in the draconian communist state of Mexifornia. You are probably not allowed to run straight pipes on your scooters. Hell you might get SWAT teamed for removing the AIS system from the bike, better be careful and have outdoor wireless motion detectors covering every part of your property. That way you won't be startled when they bash in your door at 3 AM to search every square inch of your home for motorcycle parts that have been removed or tags removed from your pillows and mattresses. This is what happens when people elect criminal scumbags to office.. Brown, Boxer and Frankenfeinstein are three perfect examples that morons in Mexifornia continue electing to destroy their rights year after year. You have my sympathy even though you are still free, as of today, to leave that god forsaken communist state. However with the passage of the TPP last week, the entire country will be under a communist dictatorship in a few short months. Enjoy your last days of freedom while you still can, they may make it illegal to travel anywhere in the near future as the economy implodes upon itself, with trillions to spend but nothing to buy with the worthless federal reserve paper that will be flooding our bathrooms. Have a nice day. :^)

Hey Rich, I have a 2013 1700 Roadstar- just got my cobra slash cut exhaust. I have removed all the bolts attaching my stock mufflers but as I suspected the stock exhaust is not coming off. Any suggestions? Mike

Hey Papi! I had a mechanic install mine at the time. I watched him do the install. He really had to shake the exhaust cans to get them off. They are very tight from the factory, which is a good thing. Good luck!

It takes some getting used to. As a fellow owner I know, and guy who has had many Road Stars, "If it sounds like a jackhammer f****** a sewing machine, it's running perfect".

Gorgeous bike! I haven't rode in over 20 years, but have the itch something terribly. The R* is what I have decided after hours of reviews on all bikes. Yours is what I have mentally envisioned I wish mine to look like when I get it. Have you had any issues with air cooling? That's the only thing I've yet to decide on..air vs liquid cool. But GD those air cooled engines sound so much more beast.

Thanks! Once you ride once, it's in the blood forever! Enjoy life and get yourself a bike!! No problems at all with cooling. Love my Roadie!!!

Hey Rich, clean looking machine bro. I just got a 2012 Road Star Silverado. I heard you say that you kept the same headers just added the Cobras. I didn't know you can take the stock mufflers out and add slip ons, thanks for that. Did you have the catalytic converter removed? Has your bike been dyno tuned, also? I'm interested to know, thanks in advance. Jesse

Hey Jesse, Thanks for the comment! I sold my Cobra slip-ons and went with a complete 2-1 system - Combat by Freedom Performance. One word...Awesome!!! My bike is not dyno tuned but I have a Fi2000 PowrPro under my seat. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gtWj1D2YJ48.html

Hello, I just bought a 2008 Silverado, and am looking to upgrade my exhaust and air cleaner. I was wondering how much you spent on parts for your setup, as of this video.
@richl6050

About $1,000 with labor.

Due to noise issues with my home community, I removed the Cobra slip-ons mufflers. I paid close to $400 for them. Pretty sure they will fit your 2008. You can confirm by calling Cobra. Wanna buy them? I'll make you a great deal! Only a year or so old and less than 700 miles on them. www.cobrausa.com/yamaha/road_star_1700_08_13/motorcycle_exhausts/slip_ons/slip_on_slashcuts/2171SC-17/ Let me know.

+Rich L How much are you thinking? I used to have a Sporty with Vance and Hines, and I didn't get any complaints. How loud was the exhaust?
@richl6050

+Willie $299+shipping. Using PayPal. They don't weigh much so I would think the cost is under $25. My homeowners is really strict!

Okay so you are in California where emissions are this states greatest concern. Then you remove all of it and video tape it and put it on RU-vid. Won't be long before they see this video and come take the bike off of you or make you put all the emission stuff back on it before they let it on the road there again. Your brilliant. NOT!
@br777666
@br777666 5 лет назад
You only need to put that shit back on for emissions test. BTW there a lot of shady inspection folks that will just pass you anyway in every state, once they get to know you.
