@@DrSaahb The auto manufacturers keep records of people's text messages that are displayed on the console screen. As far as I know these records cannot be deleted from the car's onboard memory. There have been legal disputes over the privacy concerns this raises. Everybody wants our data thesedays.
@@DrSaahb Thank you for replying and for the excellent videos. I assume you were referring to playing mp3 via USB on an A200. That is good to know. Your videos are very thorough and informative, excellent attention to detail.
@@DrSaahb How is the maintenance and service bills of this car? Is there anything that we need to look out for, when buying a used example? Here in my country, the A series are known to have ABS Sensor issues.
Depends on the year. My car is nearly 9 years old so I had to pay for some repairs (due to wear and tear) for front bushes I think which was atleast a couple hundred pounds. I get the car serviced every year at my local dealership. I am betting something else will go wrong due to wear and tear of a 9 year old car.
Hi. Yes looking at 1 Series and year 2017 onwards, depending on price. Saw a really nice M Sport Shadow and whilst deciding if BMW or Mercedes, it sold...
Both are really nice cars and drive really well. The BMW is rear wheel drive and the A-Class is front wheel drive. For me, I prefer front wheel drive for better traction when it snows. What are your thoughts?
I must admit I am leaning to the A Class as I've never had a Mercedes. I did once own a BMW 328i straight six engine which was amazing. Feel that the 1 Series feels a little dated and snug inside. Currently own a Honda CRV which is huge. Think I need to sit in an A Class and compare.
Thank you for the comment. The A-Class is very similar to the GLA. The GLA is on steroids when compared to the A-Class (taller and slightly longer). I have other videos in the GLA playlist which hopefully are helpful too.
Exhaustive explanation indeed! Just one note regarding the way to return to automatic mode from manual during drive. Do not touch the gearbox lever, just press and hold the '+' paddle for a couple of seconds. This is the officiai method as per instructions manual.
Thanks for the comment. I was told by the sales guys that this was the way to change it back to auto mode. It has always worked. I barely use the paddles to be fair. Do you use yours allot? I did try the “+” paddle for a couple seconds but the gear change did not feel smooth.
@@DrSaahb I've just had a check on the interactive manual and you are correct, the gerabox lever is an alternative. There's even a third way to return to automatic gearshift, pressing the DYNAMIC SELECT button. Here is the manual quote: "To deactivate: pull steering wheel gearshift paddle + and hold it in place. or Use the DIRECT SELECT lever to shift the transmission position. or All vehicles (except Mercedes-AMG vehicles): use the DYNAMIC SELECT button to change the drive program. Mercedes-AMG vehicles: use the DYNAMIC SELECT controller to change the drive program."
@@DrSaahb I use paddles only in certain conditions, mainly driving downhill or getting closer to a pay toll in highway, in order to exploit the engine brake. Sometimes in overtaking phase to get a more efficient gear change around 4000rpm. Automatic mode in fact brings the engine rounds a little too further
I do let the car coast when going down hill for the car to recharge the battery and apparently it is more economical to do that too. I have downshifted a couple of times when driving on the motorway to overtake but that is it.
I just purchased a 16 plate a200d auto premium, I’m new to cruise control, can you do a video on how to use this please? I can’t find a video uk anywhere ! 😢
Mine is a Japanese import and the Navigation tells me how to get around Tokyo!! How can I change it to Ireland please? Your video has been absolutely useful and I have saved it for future reference. A great teacher, thank you.
@@DrSaahb Thank you, apparently the Japanese imports have settings which cannot be changed (per Mercedes help), so I am using Apple Play which would not be my preference because I have to connect the phone every time I use the car.
Great Video. Learned a lot. But not what I was looking for. Any idea what a "C" next to the reverse function might mean. Don't think it's comfort as that is for driving or am I wrong? Thanks
Excellent review! My GLA 180 2016 the infotainment system remains black at the start of the car. It takes time and after while it is on. Any reason why it is and how to fix it? Appreciate your feedback
Thanks for the comment. How long have you had the car and when did this issue start? When the infotainment is on and working, press and hold the On switch until it switches off and then restarts itself. It may take a couple minutes but it will eventually work. Let me know how you get on please? Sometimes I have to do this especially on a very hot or very cold day.
Thanks for the comment! This has made my day. Please watch the A-Class playlist and after the sixth video, you will find videos related to the W176. Let me know what you think of them please?
When I put my car to automatic lights, the full beams are always on even when driving in the city. I keep getting flashed by oncoming cars to dim my lights. Any advice? Is there something else I need to press to set automatic lights on so that they’ll dim when oncoming traffic comes? Could you explain the light dial please! Thanks for this video, super helpful 😊
Thanks for the comment. Watch this video from 5:19 and make sure your switch is set like mine in “Auto”. Then at 6:02 I show how to put on the Automatic lights and if your stork is forward then your automatic full beams are on. If you want to switch the automatic full beams then just pull the stork towards you. Let me know how you get on please.
Great video I've just got the amg premium plus.. But you didn't cover waveband and how to change.. Reason being mine has fm and mw but no dab.. I think it's a factory extra which is a bit tight.. But for some reason there's dab presets, don't work by the way .. Which is baffling..
Thanks for the comment. You have a really nice specification. Which colour did you go for? Yes dab was an option from factory. Are you able to change from FM radio to AM radio?
Yes it is abit annoying that I also stream through Bluetooth or Apple CarPlay. Also thanks for watching my other video where I show how to use the Radio. Hope it helped.
Thanks for the comment. If you have parking sensors then they will beep if you get to close to a car or a wall. If you do not have the sensors then use the camera and grid lines to park.

This car has lots of lovely features. In your opinion, how is it when driving? Any gripes or issues? Specifically, what do you think of the back window? It looks a little narrow to me. Is visibility limited in any meaningful way?
Thanks for the comment. In terms of driving this is very subjective and depends on what cars you have owned and driven. I like the sporty feeling of my AMGline but still find it a comfortable drive. However my wife is used to the GLA Sport and prefers a softer and higher setup (both cars are built on the same platform but feel very different). Boot size for some people can be an issue but for me, my wife and daughter it is fine. Again depends on lifestyle. The back window is narrow but having a reverse camera does the trick and definitely an option I would have on any A-Class. Luckily for us in the UK, I think 2016-2018 reverse camera is standard. What other cars are you considering?
@@DrSaahb Thank you for the detailed reply. I am coming from an older Ford Focus that has a really nice and big back window, and having sat in (but not yet driven) an A180, the most notable negative was comparatively a lot less visibility out the back window, due to the narrower window and also the headrests. I've done a bit more research and this seems commonplace on hatchbacks, and I think it is something I could get used to. The rear camera is great. I just had a bit of a fear that I might not catch something in the rear mirror since the view isn't as good, whether that be when I'm keeping an eye on what's happening behind me when driving, or when reversing. Folding the rear seats could be helpful when not carrying passengers, but in fairness, you don't have the best view out the back window if you are carrying passengers in the back. I've had good experiences with Ford and I would be happy to go with them again, but I was really impressed with the feel of the Benz. Other cars of interest would be a VW Golf or a more entry level Audi or BMW. The Benz is what caught my eyes most within my price range though, but I just want to make sure I'm making the right decision as it's a big expense.
@DrSaahb Thanks! It was very nice, you almost covered entire things. Parktronics park assist you didn't cover, your car is on the higher trim level, is that not included in your car? Do you have any idea, is that included in A180d 2016 Sports Premium version? How do we know is that included?
Thanks for the comment. I do have a separate video on how to use the auto parking feature. Check our my A-Class playlist to see that. Are you buying a car from the UK? If so please check out my summary guide which you can download for free and check out my other video where I go through the specification of this car in a separate video.
I cant wrap my head around the choice between A160 / A180 / A200 since they all have the same engine. My gut feeling says: A200 will need more maintenance since we ask more power from the same engine. Any thoughts on that?
Thanks for the comment. It depends on your driving style. I have a relaxed driving style so the A200d fits me and my lifestyle. My wife prefers the 220d because she likes the more instant throttle response. Maintenance will be the same whichever version you go for unless it is the AMG models with AMG engines.
Is there a way to activate parking guidelines? Recently got a a200d premium 2018 model however when I engage reverse I have no guidelines appear on my camera. Check the OM and couldn’t find anything on it
Thanks for the comment. I have never had this issue but let me see if I can find the setting. Is it ok if I let you know tomorrow evening because I won’t be using my car till then?
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I did test the reverse camera on mine and I couldn’t remove the guidelines. Do you think you are on a different camera view? There are two options. One gives guidelines and the other camera view gives you a wider view of the rear with no guidelines.
@@DrSaahb hi mate. It appears mine is stuck on widescreen view. I try select “normal” rear view but nothing happens I’ll take it to MB when I get a chance and have them look at. Cheers for getting back to me.

Hi dr Saab I own a Mercedes A class w176 automatic 2013 as u mentioned in video that to park the car u just need to press P on the stalk and turn off the car the car will automatically apply parking brake I’ve tried many times but it doesn’t even if I take out the key car doesn’t apply parking brake itself so I have to manually do it every time which is a bit hassle keeping in mind that parking brake switch is located at unconventional place. Can u help me out please.
Thanks for the comment. I think for Facelifts it does this feature. I would ask your local dealership to double check. 2013 is pre-facelift so it might not do the same functions as my car.
@@DrSaahb thanks for replying yh u might be right but to move off i can just select D and car moves i don’t need to pull the parking brake button that’s why i was bit confused why its got one feature but not the other.
There are pros and cons. Depends what you need from a car? What features do you like or need to use? Also need to consider running costs of a used car.

Hello Dr, i have the A180 d 2016. I'm wondering if I can cast my phone to the infotainment using the Android auto? I've tried to based on some research I've done but the infotainment just keep saying connecting. I called my local MB to have this fixed for me and they are quoting £185. I took the car back to the dealership where i purchased it from as it's still under warranty and after checking this feature they refer me back to MB. Any tips on this would be appreciated. Thanks.
Thanks for the comment. Android Auto was available for some cars in 2016 but I think became standard after 2017. Depending on when it was built then it may not have the feature. Sometimes cars that have not sold for a year can be sold the following year. I would test other Android phones (maybe newer ones and see if they connect). You could also test if your phone works with a friends car that has Android Auto to double check that there is no issue with your phone. If newer Android phones do not work then double check if your local Mercedes dealership can get Android Auto to work for you at £185, then that sounds like a good way of getting Android Auto.
Thanks for the comment. I don’t think I show how to use that but where you have the “ON” button, it is also a dial which you can rotate. Hope this helps.
@@DrSaahb thanks for asking! Silver 2013 A45. 43,000 miles. 1 spec in aus, sun roof, paint & big rear wing were the only options. Didn't get the wing :-) cheers
Wow and congratulations the A45 is a special car! You will absolutely love it. Silver is a great colour choice. The infotainment will be abit different to the one in my video because I think 2013 was a pre-facelift but most of the switches will look and feel the same. I do love the rear lights of the pre-facelift. Let me know how you get on with it.
I have a 2017 a180 and when i lock my car , interior door handle led lights dont turn off, if i press the lock button again they turn off.Is there any problem

Thanks for your help, the problem was solved when I switched the light setting to automatic. There is one more question I want to ask. When I pressed the start button this morning, the engine did not start and all the lights on the dashboard started to turn on. Then I removed the start-stop cover and started the vehicle with the key
Next time, try putting the car into power on mode (so all the dash lights cone on) and then press and hold the brake, then push the start switch to turn on the car. Let me know how you get on?

Hi, i bought the a250 sport from 2017 and if i put the car in reverse it doesn’t show the camera? Does that mean that my car doesn’t have a reversing camera? Also my car has a apple car play plot but if i hook up my phone, apple car play doesn’t show up on the screen and it’s not working? Do you maybe know anything about this model?
Thanks for the comment. Which country are you from? In the UK, an A250 2017 would definitely have a reversing camera as a standard feature. I would recommend you contact your local dealership and ask them to check the specification. I think on the specification sheet they provide it should state “smartphone integration” or “Apple CarPlay”. Let me know how you get on please?
@@DrSaahb Hi, i am from Germany. I went to the dealership and he said if the reversing camera doesn’t pop up when you put the car in reverse it doesn’t have a camera. Do you maybe know where the camera would be placed on the car? Then i could check if the car has a camera
On the infotainment screen (middle of the car screen), go to “Vehicle”. Next go down to “System Settings” and select it. Next scroll down the list till you see “Reverse Camera” and select it. If you do not see in the list “Reverse Camera”, then you won’t have that feature. Now you should have the option to click on “open camera cover”, it you have the option. Then when you look at your rear number plate, in the middle, you should see the camera cover open. Hope this helps you?
@@DrSaahb Hi, thank you for the detailed answer. I went to my local mercedes dealership and I asked them. Apparently my car doesn’t have a reversing camera nor apple car play. But they said that apple car play can be coded. So I booked that service but it‘s really pricey (700€ in germany). The reversing camera would cost 2000€. So I decided to not book that 🥲

I like to leave it in the armrest even when not using Apple CarPlay. Then it is out of my vision. Otherwise I might want to use it 😂 Some people put the phone in the storage area in the middle of the console. I have seen someone buy a phone holder that uses the disc area to hold up the phone.
@@DrSaahb yes 😂😂 thanks for the replies good videos subbed to the channel It’s weird they didn’t really leave a space to keep the phone in eye vision would’ve been a good spot if they extended the middle of the bottle holder might need to look into the disc holder Thanks a lot 👍
