I read this article but it didn't mention that the BMW overheated. I think that's significant, a modern performance car should have more than enough radiator to keep up with its engine regardless of the weather.

I wonder how long they actually ran them before they overheat? Just a thought, I know the ZL1 has a trans and differential cooling pumps, along with advanced cooling under the hood over the SS model.

It's not all about speed when you're spending serious money on a car to drive everyday - a good interior is vital. That being said, European cars are way overpriced for what they deliver...

This is a good video, but you buy what you can afford. I expect if you can afford the BMW, you will get that. If not, you will buy the Camaro. If I could afford a Cayman, I would have purchased it instead of the Mustang GT, which I absolutely adore and enjoy shifting through the gears.

BTW the Camaro has 7 modes, not two. tour sport+ (press the traction control button twice and PTM menu pops up) PTM 1= wet mode PTM 2= dry mode, touring suspension PTM 3= dry, active stability, sport suspension PTM 4 =dry, stabilitrac off, sport suspension PTM 5 =dry, race suspension, watered down everything else off = balls to the walls no nothing holding you back in any of the dry modes launch control is active, and no lift shift is active where you dont have to get off the gas to shift. obviously these guys didn't look too deep into the car other than read a pamphlet or two. I own a 2014 hard top.

m6 is stupid expensive you can buy m5 for cheaper and get exact same things. if you want performance for cheap price you get zl1 if you want luxury you get s550 if you want both luxury and performance you get 911 turbo. where m6 wanted both luxury and performance and failed missirably . of course if you don't understand cars and have money and just want to look cool you get m6 and when that red light comes in and that chevy zl1 will make you want to return your car and s550 will make you feel stupid and 911 turbo will make you hate your m6.

I find myself more impressed with the ZL1. It's the angry baritone exhaust rumble and cackle on the overrun that does it for me. But seriously, the Corvette 427 would've been a better rival to the BMW.

Who cares if the m6 is faster .. a chip and a pulley will easily boost power in that camaro for a small fraction of the price of the car.. and its pretty sad that the bmw was over heating that's why turbos suck ... The camaro has ALOT of cooling capacity for coolant/oil/tranny/rear diff ... And lets not forget about the giant air extractor that consistently moves air under the hood to keep that monster running cool

Damn, your math sucks. The BMW does not just have 15 options (5 options X 3 settings). It has 2 (on/off traction control) X 3 X 3 X 3 X 3 = 162 choices!

The Camaro with a 427 hasn't been produced yet other than a few test cars. They wont go into production until february. The LS7 as it comes from GM will not drop right into the camaro without work and an aftermarket wiring harness. I know this for a fact. I am not jealous of you and your dealership built car. Its seems like a waste of money for not alot of gain. I actually own a ZL1 and will be trading it off for the z28 when it does come out.

GM doesn't do that and hasn't since 1977. Unless your name is Jay Leno or Rick Hendrick then you don't get custom order cars. You may believe that GM did the work but your dealership is the one doing it. Dealerships all over the country will do the work but GM has nothing to do with it. It wasn't built in the factory that way. I know how it works. We have done LS9 Camaros before but the factory warranties are void.

The dealers are independent from GM. They buy cars from GM and then sell them. GM doesn't approve anything different from how it comes from them. If your dealer is ordering cars and ordering a different engine then doing a swap I would be sure to get the original engine back since you already paid for it. GM will warranty the crate engine but not the car or trans you put it in. Since you swapped the engine the cars warranty is void.

The comparison I think is kind of dumb, this is an all american muscle car, or pony car, whatever u wanna call it. A person that knows about cars will automatically say " ill go with bmw over that camaro any day " but hands down the camaro catches way more attention, proven fact, I have a camaro ss and I noticed it all the time..the design is amazing on this car, it screams out agresive anywhere you go, specially the sound, but then again yeah well bmw has way more technology and it looks fancy.

An M6 Convertible, is much slower than an M5. Car and Driver (from the UK review team) did an absolute horrible review of the 13 M5 vs the 13 M6 coupe. They compared an M5 with the smaller wheel option (19 inch) as appose to the more common M5 20 inch rim option, as seen on the the M6 in that review. The M6 has the same 7-speed M-DCT gearbox, exact same motor specs and technology as the M5. I would bet my house, in the real world, both cars would perform identically in a straight line.

Hate to break it to you but Chevy is much faster these days both in the twisties and and straight line and while Chevy reliability has become rock solid, BMW reliability is sinking like a rock. BMW produces some luxurious cars but they are not exclusively a luxury car brand. Upper level, yes.. I know in the US there is a certain cache to owning a German car so I understand your sentiment but here in Europe it is just another car. My 318 is hardly luxurious.

Well granted, the Camaro is louder. And red. And that's about it, really. These things might be comparable in the US, but when you actually get a road with bends, the Beemer is a no-brainer. Is it overly expensive? Of course, it's a BMW, they're all overpriced. Would I buy one? I could get a Quattroporte for that amount of money. Would I have one if someone gave it to me? Honestly, who wouldn't.

I own two BMWs. One (E39) is on it's way to the junkyard and it's only 10 years old. Nearly every drivetrain component has a serious problem. I can buy a lightly used one for what it would cost to fix. The other (E36) is ok, it's almost as reliable as my Chevy except that parts cost 3-4 times as much, and its 3-4 times more of a PITA to fix. That's probably because it's one of the simplest BMWs you can get, 318is.

save the manuals! The BMW is the better car overall but the Chevy has more character, or so it seems from the video, i haven t driven either. In my opinion i would crown the Chevy the winner for the simple fact that you can buy with a manual gearbox and 3 pedals, not some dual clutch semi automatic robot gearbox that automakers keep pushing on us as better because they shift faster (truth is it's cheaper for automakers to offer only one transmission choice).i need a save the manuals t-shirt!

The Chevy cost half as much, ofc it will offer enough for many people who do not care of quality or refinery. A american show will never give the win to a European car that cost a lot more. Their tests is setup so the only possible winner can be a american car. The driving scenes are the only true reason to watch this kind of tests, too bad they forget to film them this time.

first of all, I guess few people that can actually afford an m6 are confronted with having to decide between these two cars, thats just a total different clientele. Someone who buys an m6 wants state of the art tech., the compination of sportiveness and comfort and wouldnt even spent a dollar/pound/euro etc. on a car with a roof machanism as the camaro has.

you haters out there really need to click on the link in the description to understand the comparison. it's about comparing cheaper alternatives to their expensive counterparts. In this case, the two cars are really similar: power, convertible, coupes, FR layout. The BMW is an M car, so there's no excuse loosing based on the FUN factor.

Yes you can order a crate LS7 and have it installed into your car but it must be done through an outside vendor. As GM will not warranty anything other than the engine itself. If curry over in scarsdale is doing engine swaps its completely on them for that. But you cannot order a 7 liter camaro from GM.

In 69 it did but it does not today. The ZL1 has a 6.2l LSA . The z06 corvette has a 7 liter LS7. You said you own a camaro with a 427 which has not been built yet. You cannot order one from the factory. This isn't 1970 when the copo cars were around. So just drop the lie and move on.

I'm an Aussie, and I see BMW all the time in Melbourne. BUT, I hate how most of them look crap! They all seem to have the exact same front! I'd go Camaro, and I'm gonna import one, or move to the US. BMW just seems overpriced, simply because it comes from Germany!

I still have this issue of C/D. This is how much better the ZL1 is than the GT500 when it can successfully compete with a car that costs(literally)twice as much. Also in this issue is why Cadillac can't afford to share another platform with a lame-duck brand like Buick.

I love the camaro and I think this contest is close but look at the prices in the uk a camaro is around £40,000- £45,000 and a BMW m6 is around £60,000 for me it would have to be the camaro the BMW is overall a better car but it isn't £15,000 better

Finesse and Quality costs. And it apply s to anything, not just cars. You can sleep in a motel room or in a suite at a luxury hotel. They both have beds and bath. But there is a difference that makes you pay extra for the suite. (if you can afford it).

The tonneau cover of the Camaro kills it for me. If it starts to rain I don't want to have to run out of my car to remove my tonneau cover, put it back in the trunk, and run back inside to put the top back up. I mean, my 12 year-old 3-series convertible is fully automatic but a brand new Camaro isn't? That's sad. I'll take the M6 or my 3-series, thank you.
