If you hold down the Stabilitrac button for 10+ seconds, it will actually turn off completely... It works on my 2012 Caprice PPV... was even in the owner's manual!
@@enzofamily4320 Not really. Sport mode may help with shift points but these cars are heavy enough and weight transfer well so in stock form they don't really slip off the line.
You can turn the stability control off. Look in the manual. Also, the tyres are what your US police departments asked for. In Australia this car (sold as a luxury model) handles much better on better tyres. The handling aspects were dialled in by GM US. The handling is very different in the Australian version (which is a normal passenger car).
To those who argue that Toyota and Honda are more American because their cars are actually built in America, is only winning half of the argument. But where are the majority of the profits going? Japan or America?
Ok maybe the profits are going back to Japan, but think about it. That money is going to a handful only, so would you rather have a manufacturing plant in the US where many benefit or money going to few.
Bear in mind that this car has the "base" DNA of the Vauxhall VXR8. It took Australia to show America how to build a real rear wheel drive car. US muscle cars always look cool, and can be fun, but getting one to stop or turn in a hurry has always been a problem
Chevrolet had specifically asked Holden (the Australian wing of GM that designed, builds and exports these) to use a Caprice as their police cruiser model because they wanted more legroom. The new Chevy SS is based on the new VF Holden Commodore. It does have a shorter wheelbase, just like the G8, but when the VF goes on sale in Australia, they will find their way into every Australian state police force. For comparison of the Taurus, look up "FG Series Falcon XR6 turbo."
They didn't. This guy has done something to it. The G8 has the same basic suspension as this one, and both were built by Holden. Contrary to common belief, the Camaro was designed and developed in Australia, but built in Canada. The CTS even uses the Holden designed Zeta floorpan
They couldn't secure a Ford in time for the test but plan to get one for the next test. However, the performance of all the new police cars as tested by the Michigan State Police is son similar, that any difference between the cars is really negligible. Plus the Taurus interceptor is TINY inside, which is a real deal-breaker for a lot of police forces. In my neck of the woods, most cruisers are Chargers, with the Ford Interceptor SUV in a close second. Tauruses and Caprices are a very rare sight
true...but remember, there might be instances where back-up isn't available (such as during periods of the day when other cops are changing shifts), which is where you'd have to go after the speeder yourself...yes, you can't outrun the radio, but the radio won't physically stop you
Are you talking Brands specifically or the companies as a whole? because the big 3(or 2.5?) still each have more factories than either Toyota or Honda in the US. And if we count factories that don't assemble cars but have some other purpose then GM and Ford both have more than Toyota and Honda combined.
***** 4k? your gettin ripped off I got my 2000 for only 1k. You can get one for as low as how much I got mine in decent condition from a taxi company they usualy sell between 1-3k. At the auctions its a gamble though I recommend getting retired undercover cop cars because they arent driven as hard.My crown vic isnt too slow it hits 60 in around 7 seconds the only thing i dont like is its a pain in the ass parking at times because the car is so damn big, the irony is i was saving up to try and get a 92 infiniti Q45 for 3k but got the 2000 pig car instead. Im into Maximas, i30s and Q45s they make great sleepers.
its a buck thirty here in Canada so its less expensive here in the west than in Europe but your right about gas being overpriced. But Americans and Canadians love fast cars and there are more highways here too so its more "practical" in North america when compared to Europe.
The caprice handles extremely well considering its a 4400 pound car AND as he says in the video it has SHIT tires. with the right all season tire it handles even better. The 0-60 time is close to the other new patrol cars if not better and blows most production cars out of the water. I own one and am extremely impressed all around with the correct tires this car is the easiest car to safely hoon around any corner you can throw at it. this review is a little misleading. This is a must experience to know kind of car.
I would say so. Australian Commodores and Caprices (their Australian parents) have the ability to turn off stability control if you want to, even in present models. Look up "HSV Club Sport" "HSV GTS" and "HSV Grange" to see what Holden build as factory tuner cars.
Yea it should. The RI state police have these and the sound from on acceleration is amazing! Coventry has the Chargers and of course they sound good. I like these better the look is so mean lol. And u don't see it coming cause no ones used to the headlights yet
He contradicts himself a lot. "This thing has stability control that you can't turn off and it really slows you down." "After you get passed a 100 on this s curves I'm glad the stability control keeps me from sliding around too much."
I always thought they should be driving like a slightly tuned up Subaru Forester or something... AWD, stable, reliable, and a nice big trunk / back seat.
So you're saying AMERICAN municipalities buy EUROPEAN vehicles costing many times more than their American counterparts only to be driven on highways where straight line speed is everything? Also, this car isn't slow, the test was against sports cars so of course it was the second slowest.
Something doesn't add up in this LLONIK Class. I've driven both the Caprice PPV and the Charger Pursuit on the track. The Caprice handles way better than the Charger, also the Caprice has better brakes. Also the Caprice's 6-speed transmission is superior over the Charger's 5-speed unit, and I found the PPV's sport mode really useful. I don't know if they changed tires or what but I had better grip driving the Caprice. The Charger is slightly faster, the Caprice isa better well balanced car.
For instance: Being the second slowest car in their test. You american's would better trade in US muscle cars for European cars like a BMW which accelerates 10 times faster and the handling is ten times better (hence you do not need to brake a lot before entering a corner)
Not what i was thinking at all... I said a Forester, not an Impreza. This has nothing to do with speed or car chase crap. I was saying they should have a good reliable four-wheel drive vehicle. I live in the United States and a large portion of this country is covered in snow in the winter and not all our roads are nice paved things like are all over Europe.
I could care less what the MSP said about any car. I use these things everyday for 10 hours a day and I'm telling you the Fords are FAR SUPERIOR in every way. From a budgetary stand point, they are more affordable from purchase to decommission. They perform in all environments at a much higher level, and are a more durable product for the North American style of LE. The choice between sedan and utility in all wheel drive and efficient, powerful power plants make them the logical choice.
6.2L, V8 engine for a car to be owned by family so no wonder US car manufacturers are struggling. Who buys such car when One Liter of Petrol is sold for about 2.2 USD here in Sweden and generally in Europe...
i know, i dont get why all government vehicles have to be an american brand, honda and toyota have more vehicle production plants in the US than most "american" brands.
First, this car will allow you to drift 15 degrees and hold it with zero input from you. Second.. You most certainly can disable all of the "Stablitrak" ... at which point this becomes a "dumb car"... it will allow burn outs, oversteer, and any other neat tricks you can pull off with your right foot.
Well I highly doubt that cops are going to chase people on racetracks. In real life driving that tough suspension is like a tank- kinda like a truck. Doesn't handle well but it's tough as nails!
Who's talking about a 90k BMW. You don't need an M3 to be a good cop car. Your average volvo drives better and costs maybe 40k. Accelerates faster than this one and handling still is better. Anyways I rest my case, just like the other 40 people who agree with me.
This is such a bad review by someone who cant drive, with an American bias against anything not made in USA. First he says it is a G8.Wrong! it is a much bigger car, with different characteristics. Then he says its a 6.2 V8..Wrong! its a 6.0 litre V8, the std engine. He whinges about the handling, without even considering it was DeTuned for US Police work. The car is engineered to use low profile Alloy wheels/tyres, not steel rims and razorblades, it is much faster than the Dodge or Ford.
And if you hold the button for 5 seconds, the traction control and stabilatrak turns off. If you just bump the button traction control shuts off, but the stabilatrak remains on...Facepalm*
I love how you call me that and yet it's quite obvious that you have no idea how it works over here. Tax dollars pay for the cop cars and a lot of the municipalities will only buy domestic vehicles. Not to mention that they don't need a 90k BMW that would rarely see high speeds.
These U.S cop cars may be a huge joke to us Europeans as they would'nt catch anything on our twisty roads, but watch the pursuits they undertake in the States and they make perfect sense....Not sure our Ford focuses, Volvos and Imprezas would be much good at nerfing a crim off the road.
why the fuck would governments spend extra money on cars they don't need, if you lived in the real world you would know that most cop chases end with a simple radio, meaning that if your speeding 150 down the highway all the cop has to do is radio ahead so he doesn't have to chase you. you and many other people saying american cars suck play too much video games and think all chases last for over 10 minutes. just remember you can try outrunning a cop car but you wont outrun a radio.
