Nobody will care but my uncle is a producer for CBS Sports and he was the one who chose to use that camera angle during the kickoff return. I think he won an Sports Emmy award for it.
More to the point, when he broke away from the sideline and out into the open. Up till then, everyone assumed he would get pinched off. Then, in a instant its "We're Gonna Win!!!!"
I had an uncle who played for auburn in the sixties, this was the last iron bowl he saw before he died. I’m sure this game was way more important to him than the championship.
You dont have to be a fan of auburn. This just makes you enjoy being a fan of football. Its a moment that happened where one would say "could only be scripted in movies" or simply dreamt of and yet it became a reality. Gives me chills every single time
My brother and I were there - life long Auburn season ticket holders - he wanted to leave after AJ's 99 TD and I said nope, we are gonna ride this one out! Thank God we did!
What doesn’t get enough appreciation here is how Verne and Gary just let the moment breathe after Davis scores. For over a minute there’s no commentary, just the sights, sounds, and faces of disbelief in the stadium. Kudos to them, because many announcers would just throw in their two cents and talk over it all.
Well, it's not like Carroll had the best running back in the world to go to in his backfield. Oh wait. ... Well, it's not like he had just run more than five yards through the Patriots' defense like they were made out of paper, only one play before. ... Oh wait.
People still on that. If they don't make it time would have been their enemy. There is absolutely nothing to say he would have scored a TD running that ball. People who say it was an 'automatic' TD know zip about sports.
My son is your age. We have no dog in the fight, (ACC schools for us) but we both remember this vividly. Just as I remember watching football with my dad in the 60s and 70s... You are wise, sir.
Not so much the crowd being loud. More so the crowd probably jumping up and down like crazy, causing whatever surface the camera is mounted to to shake.
My son and I were watching the game live and after all these years I still keep coming back to watch it one more time. I just can't help myself. What a game, what an exciting ending. Loved it! !
@@-G-. yeah, I thought he meant it unironically. Now i fear the pendulum has swung back my way with terrible vengeance. At worst I'll feel bad, at best I'll end up on r/WHOOSH
@@saabrian it was a hilarious quip from one of the commentators but not a deliberate effort on Saban's part to throw his players under the bus. He had big guys out there to protect the field goal attempt. He thought it was going to be the last play of the fourth quarter so even if his team missed the kick it would be a safe call. No one in their right mind was banking that Auburn would return it the whole length of the field for a touchdown.
@Autigers2010 lol don't think the greatest college coach of all time is crying about much. Aurbun fans on the other hand stay with tears in their eyes.
I’m an Auburn fan, and this was the greatest moment I’ve seen so far. It was amazing. I remember going to school the following Monday and all the Alabama fan kids were all pissed off and sour! “He stepped out of bounds! Watch this video!” And showing everyone this video of the run that someone had edited/photoshopped to show the receiver had clearly stepped out of bounds. Making every excuse in the world. It was a great day to be an auburn fan.
I'm not sure how familiar you are with Gary Danielson, but people that are fans of teams in the SEC have a general consensus that he's a fucking moron.
As an FSU fan I’ll never forget how happy and exciting this play was. I knew what this meant for us as well and to see Alabama taken out of the running was amazing. With family for thanksgiving this. Everyone around watching this together. I was running around the house screaming. I also liked auburn as well as I was a huge fan of cam newton when he played for them and in the NFL. Probably my favorite sport moment in history. Even more so than the game winning drive against auburn for the title that year.
I'll never forget watching this live in a house full of bama fans talking trash being the only auburn fan there that night I literally ran out the house screaming with joy while they were all dead silent still staring at the tv screen with their jaws dropped it will forever be a moment I'll never forget WDE
Similar story man I’m no Auburn fan but I was going absolutely nuts. I feel like mentioning that it was an excellent kick especially for a red shirt freshman
Well said... Rod was A LEGEND IN THE BUSINESS. His wife Paula was also amazing from what I've read. Everyone please pray for their 2 young children Shelby and Josh Bramblett. The world lost 2 amazing human beings but Heaven gained 2 angels. This one's for you Rod....WARRRRR EAGLE, HEY!
From what I've read, the kid was drunk/high and hit them from behind at a red light. They were obviously just going to dinner. It breaks my heart. This is the best call ever. RIP Rod and Paula.
I just stumbled on this today. It's fun to watch and listen again to the broadcasters, two of the best in the business, talking about the play. They were stressing that nobody thought of a run back possibility, but I honestly did. When 'Bama decided to go for the field goal I said to my wife, who just happened to be in the room, "Auburn can win this on a run back." And it happened. One of those truly great moments to relive. Thanks for featuring it.
Um I've play monopoly before I'm going on facts they called the play right and won he got out coached this is a real game folks we go on facts not abcs
Because out of the 3000 games played one turns out to be good? The other 2,999 games are amateur hour. I'd rather watch one rock band play their hit song than watch 2,000 people karaoke to it
LOL^ someone has never watched college football. It's faster, more mistakes, more fun, more passion, better fans, and the players play for pride not checks.
I remember watching the last half of the 4th quarter live with my mom. We both loved football, but had forgot the iron bowl was going on because we followed the nfl closer than collegiate football. I remember so distinctly the shock and emotion that this brought us experiencing this live together. My mom passed away last year and seeing this game, and the emotion it brought and still brings, it fills my heart with a joy.
Sorry about your loss. Glad you were able to share that memory with her, that was a hell of a finish to that game. Believe I watched it with my mom as well :)
Funny story. I was watching this and I was alone. Still learning the rules of football, my grandfather had the game on but left the room for about 30 seconds. I watched the play, and he came back. I just said "Auburn scored the winning touchdown", thinking this happened in almost every game of football. He said "What?" about forty times. He then watched the replay and the gape of his mouth had to be at least three feet open. Edit: He sadly passed away a couple months after I wrote this comment. RIP Giddo 1928-2017
One of the most significant losses in college football history. Bama was undefeated and ranked #1 for the entire regular season and was looking to three-peat...and boom! All of that was undone by that final second of regulation by their bitterest of rivals. 3:35 It was at this moment Saban knew, he fucked up.
Your toxic given I'm a huge bama fan and auburn is In the state of alabama idc how big of a rivalry there is. its stupid to say that you would route for a different state to win against your own. I would route for auburn if there not playing Alabama because it makes our state teams look good And you can sit there and say "aww someone had there feelings hurt cause there team lost" but truthfully that was an amazing play I'm not gonna be toxic about it
The broadcast team knowing when to just keep quiet and let the moment speak for itself was one of the things SEC on CBS always knew. Will miss Saturday nights like this
5:45 man, that moment when the entire Auburn sideline realizes that Davis is gonna go all the way and they all go nuts... what a feeling. Still get chills, every time.
@@urbandecay4540 dude why are you commenting on every auburn fan's comment? Are you that sad that you can't just let people be happy? Like congrats Alabama won in 2020 but they don't win all
@@dklipinbass8031 “It feels pretty terrible,” Bo Nix said. “It’s not very fun. It just hurts because of everything that I’ve put into it, everything that I’ve done to get to this moment and just come up a lot short. It’s an awful feeling, to be honest with you.”😊😊 - Bo Nix after the 29pt beatdown
If this is the best, then Miami's 8-Lateral Miracle Kickoff Return Touchdown To Beat Duke is a close second place. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_YXwuaniPoc.html
I am a Alabama fan to the heart i remember watching this game crying because we lost lol then a hour later my husband had a massive heart attack and passed my favorite game of year turned into my worse memory now every time i watch this game im happy and sad rest in heaven my love its still roll tideeeee he was a bama fan
I absolutely love it. I am a huge die hard LSU fan. I always pull for Auburn when they are not playing LSU. I jumped up from my sofa and screamed RUN RUN RUN. It only takes one second to beat you Nick Saban. GEAUX WAR EAGLES.
Not an Auburn fan. But man this gives me chills still all these years later. Just one of the most incredible plays ever and the stadium going apeshit just adds to the insane intensity of this play.
With pro teams, you're just cheering for some dudes who get paid millions of dollars to play for your city and don't have any particular loyalty to it. With college, you're cheering for players that specifically chose to go to your school. And you're cheering for them to represent your school. Then the fans get crazier when you add in marching bands, fight songs, game day traditions, etc. Pro atmosphere just can't compare. Real bands beat canned music over loudspeaker every time.
Im from Alabama and this was the first football game I ever saw in my life. It made me realize why so many people love this sport. This moment was magical .
This game shattered my heart into a million pieces. My older brother cried all night long and for weeks after anytime we would here about that darn kick six ether on the radio or sports tv we’d share some tears. Nothing gets me more emotional than watching my team loose.
@@seansibley9371 no one will remember that game, but a lot of people will remember when auburn was hit with a taste of their own medicine in the championship game.
My mom passed away recently from a tragic accidental opioid overdose. She raised me by herself and worked her butt off to give me a good childhood. We were always very close. We would watch games together, not just as mother and son, but as literal best friends. We couldn't believe what we were witnessing live on tv this special night. This game gave my mother and I a spectacular show, such a great memory and one I'll never ever forget. RIP Ma Dukes.
8 years and I still get chills when I watch this ! I’ve never seen Jordan-Hare stadium so lit and downtown was a goddamn party that lasted til noon the next day!!! Man I miss college!
i love how the same 1 second thing happened in this game but nobody talks about it. why? because it benefited alabama and it backfired. but when it happens to us and we convert everyone gets mad because we won. but in this game nobody talks about it because we won anyway. and in the nick saban interview it’s like he completely forgot the same thing happened in this game.
@@unkn0wnn944 I'm sorry but your kind of contradictory information is wrong because we are here now talking about it I know not saban ps he is a arch rival he wouldn't want to acknowledge any good deed out of the Auburn teams we put the gray in his hair his restless nights and I'm in cowboys (osu) fan But I love what your team does to that two faced sob makes to be one of the best games almost every year!!.
5:17 is what makes it indelible to me. Gary Danielson put it best " I thought a blocked FG could lead to this, but who wouldve dreamed that could happen on a short FG." Ive seen this in the pros but not in college. To see that happen was unreal
I think anyone that grew up loving football or playing can agree this moment is every kids dream. Playing your biggest rival at home, 1 second on the clock, a BCS trip on the line and an end to end kicksix to win the game. Chills every time.
droidean Stakes weren't nearly as high? Dude, the winner would've gone on to the SEC and BCS title games. The winner of the Iron Bowl for the past 4 years has gone to the NC game. You clearly have no idea what you're talking about.
***** Actually, the only thing the winner of this game was entitled to was a bid to the SEC conference championship game, nothing more. Still has to play a good Missouri team for the automatic bid to a BCS bowl game. The previous winners of Iron Bowls to Natty games is irrelevant, logically speaking. Nice try, though.
The 06 National Championship/Rose Bowl was more entertaining than this game and had much higher stakes, and that is just a game within the last 10 years; let alone all-time.
droidean Missouri was no challenge, so the SEC was a guaranteed title. The 06 NC doesn't even compare to what the Iron bowl has produced in the past few years. The Iron bowl is never irrelevant, it's the greatest rivalry in college football and one of the best in all of sports.
And then FSU led by Heisman winner Jameis Winston went on to lead a comeback against them 21-3 in one of the greatest and most underrated National Title games ever, capped off by a game winning TD from Jameis with 13 seconds remaining. Simply amazing. And now exactly a decade later, the Seminoles are in the Top 4 again and looking like they're going to make the playoffs. #GoNoles
As a Kentucky/College Football fan, I’ll never forget where I was watching this live. One of the most unforgettable moments in CFB history. I was absolutely stunned.
@@tommytimp That's why I don't understand why more teams don't send back a return man on 55+ yard FGs, especially in college. It's damn hard to get a ball up high enough for a college kicker, so I think there are more returns to be had.
@@andrejg4136 IDK if NCAA rules are different, but I'm assuming the reason is because there would almost never be a reason to take that risk on a 55+ yard FG unless it was the end of the half. You return anything less than to roughly mid field and you now have worse field position than if you didn't return it.
@@tommytimp No, but it's kinda surprising they didn't leave one or two speedier players in given Auburn seemingly lined up in Nascar package for the kick. In other words, Auburn didn't go so DT heavy. But on a return Auburn's personnel with extra speed has plenty of power to kick out enough blocks
I wonder what the odds were in that situation. 28-28, one second left, one play to go, Alabama kicking a field goal, and Auburn wins the game. 100 to 1 easy.
I’m today years old reeling from the most painful 2021 loss. Normally the winner of the food drive wins the iron bowl. Yesterday it was not the case. Only three times in 30 years has this outcome differed.
No shit. Looks like someone isn't very good at reading the obvious sarcasm in my comment. You must be a bamma fan.Shadows Gaming- Part of Sky Gaming Clan
+Chase M The chances of this happening were next to none. I don't blame Saban for that playcall. Cade Foster should have made his field goals so it didnt have to come to this
kingzms ツ yeah it’s like they’ve never heard of Larry Allen. This “fat guy” chased down literally one of the fastest linebackers from a standing start from behind. Dude was a legend
It's insane how Auburn was the talk of America from Nov 16 (The prayer at Jordan Hare) to Nov 30th (this) and through the end of the season. I'm not even a fan but I feel so lucky to have seen both of those plays live on TV
I saw this at the Colisseum before the SC/UCLA game in the Sports Arena with 1,000 other SC fans. 1,000 neutral fans went absolutely ballistic. I can only imagine what it must've been like at Jordan Hare.
the crowd had like 5 levels, 3:16 the trepidation and small cheer that they missed the fg, 3:19 the realization and growing excitement that he has a decent return going, 3:23 the realization that he stayed in bounds, 3:25 the realization that this is actually happening, 3:30 the release of realizing that it actually just happened. incredible.
No matter what anyone says, the Auburn Kick six will always be the best, the most electrifying, and the greatest play in football history. Nobody expected Auburn to catch and return a missed field goal for 100 yards. Although I am a LSU fan I gotta give props to Auburn. 💜💛💛🐅🐅💙🧡💙🧡💙🧡💙🧡.
I feel sorry for that poor kicker. First, he was put into a situation where the limits exceeded his physical abilities, and then to top it off, Big Gabe Wright (6-3, 290) waxed his a$$ on the run-back
