I've had the same problem twice and a whole rebuild once on the transmission the two times it's happened to me it's been the converter being bad which eventually makes a flexplate go bad if you continue to drive with a knocking sound
One way to check to see if it's an injector issue is to get it making the noise and turn off the injectors one at a time to see if the noise changes. You'll have to find someone that has a programmer that can shut down the cylinders one by one. Early 3gens you could pull value cover and unhook electronics on the injectors
Yeah thats exactly what i did. Except i didnt use a programmer. I just pulled the valve cover off and unplugged each injector one by one. The very first one i pulled was the culprit lol!! Shes all good now. I changed #6 injector, and the fuel tube as well. When i was waitkng for the new one to come in, i oulled all the other ones and cleaned out all the nozzles. Shes been doing good ever since then
@@shugbe5477 good deal, I've got something going on with my 99. Electric issue the dreaded asd click and bussing noise. Going to clean and make new ground wires for cpu and fuse box under the hood. Fun stuff
Sounds just like the knock in cold weather when tne idel fast to warm up. The computer will kill 2 cylinders in random order. Either injector or injector wiring grid
Hey bub, sorry for my delayed response. Im terrible with checking my comments sometimes. But yes, i did get it fixed. It ended up being my #6 injector. Which blew me away. I was certain it was the TC or flex plate. Watch the rest of my videos though and you will see a lot more hands on as to how i figured it out. If you have any questions, feel free to ask man. Ill try to be more responsive.
Sorry bud but it’s a crank bearing it sounds like and you do have it when u rev it up also but it has a sweet spot that is quiet and then comes again just my opinion tho good luck n MAY GOD LET YA WORK IT OUT WHATEVER THE PROBLEM IS.
The General I’ve got a 2014 2500 300k and I’m having thrush bearing issues the crank moves about a 1/8 and the torque bolts are dragging across the back of the spacer plate the crazy thing is there’s not metal at all in the oil filter I’m about to tear into it tomorrow it was crazy that I saw this video I said I’m a bit late to give advice on it but maybe it might help someone later
Fartingcatfish Lol!! Na man, its never to late. Thats kind of why i made these videos. I need to make a final video explaining what all was done and what fixed the issue. But im here in SW Louisiana still dealing with this fkn hurricane mess. But one day ill get it done. The goal was to find some answers and to maybe even help some others out as well. Hope you figure out your issues on yours bub.
Isidro Leal The oil change made no difference in the noise from what i could tell. But i had changed the oil before i put the injectors back in, so there wasnt really any way for me to tell. Engine still sounds the same as it did before now. I have probably put about 5k to 6k on it since then. Are you having similar issues?
Yeah I’m having similar issues like it quiets down when I change the oil but it sounds the same type of knock (from same place as yours) truck has 149,000 on it? Deleted
Isidro Leal Yeah man, not too sure in regards to the oil change part. I drained all of my fluids when i first thought it was the TC or flex plate. I did that bc i knew i was pulling the trans out. I put all new fluids and filters in when i pit it all back together before i started it the first time. Long story short, once i put new TC and flex plate in, i bolted it all back together and it wasnt even 10 minutes later that it started knocking again. At that point, i was pretty pissed bc i had just spent over 2k in parts that didnt fix the problem 🙄🙄 However, i am glad that those parts are now upgraded for sure. Anyways, i brought it to our local dealership and had one of the techs listen to it. A buddy of mine is the service manager, so i got off without being charged lol!! But as soon as he heard it, he said it was a fuel knock. He said its ok to drive it, but to watch the oil bc if the injector isnt atomizing the fuel correctly, then its going to seep past the rings and get into the oil. After he said that, it all made sense. I went home and checked the oil, and sure enough, you could tell that it wasnt as thick as it should have been. I could smell a hint of diesel in it as well. So you may want to check that yourself. If you have fuel in your oil, then there is a good chance that you may have the same issue. My suggestion for you as of now, to not spend a bunch of money, is to check for fuel in your oil first. If you do have it in there, and even if you dont really, pull the valve cover and disconnect each injector, one at a time. If the noise stops when one of them is unplugged, then you have probably narrowed it down. Im not there to know all the details with what is happening with yours, so im kind of shooting from the hip on this one. Mine would only knock when it was under a load as well. Thats why i initially thought it was something in the drive train (TC or flex plate). Not sure how mechanically inclined you are either lol!! Not saying you arent, but if you have any questions on how to do all of this, then ask away man. Ive been meaning to do a follow up video on my truck after i had gotten done with it. But cant seem to find the time to just sit outside and talk to a camera. I have 3 little girls that keep me tied up quite a bit. But i will make one here before too long. I know thats a lot to read bub, but on a serious note, if you have any questions, let me know man and ill do what i can to help you out.
Thanks a lot. I read the whole thing lol. But GREAT HELP and will start looking into it. Ima check the injectors and test them out. I’ve checked online (forums) and most people had had the noise for over 50k with no issues? I’ve had it making the noise for maybe 10k miles and no issues...checked oil and no fuel seems to be in there either. Not sure ima take it to a shop have them check it out and we’ll go from there
Worth a try to get a scan tool and shut off each individual injector to see If it goes away on a certain cylinder. Not sure if you said that you have done this yet.
BackwoodsBrotherhood I went ahead and replaced it man. I disconnected the injector and the noise quit. Unplugged all the others as well. Individually that is. Ive put about 3k miles on it since then, and shes doing good so far.
aolesnevich none taken. Its just to show how it clears up if you do give it fuel. And yes, you are correct. I unplugged #6 injector and the knocking quit. It ran a little rough obviously, but it did stop. I replaced the injector and cleaned out the others while i had it all broke down. Shes running good now.
Jarek, sorry for my delay in my response. The cause of the noise actually ended being my #6 injector, if you can believe it. I pulled my valve cover off, and disconnected each individual injector to see if it was in fact a fuel knock. When i unplugged the #6 injector, the noise went away, and as soon as i plugged it back in, it started making it again. I ran through each one individually to make sure it was only that one. I have since, replaced the injector and the feeder tube (this is required), and have not had any problems. I meant to go back and do another video explaining the entire scenario that unfolded, but i just havent had the time. Hope this helps you out bub. If you have any questions just let me know. Thanks.
Thanks for the help! Sounds like your pointing me in the right direction. I’m going to Check it out this weekend, I will do a before video and after .if it is the issue sounds like a lot of people are having this problem probably from some mild tuning that was done?
@@jarekbayne2087 no problem man. Ill give you my opinion on the matter as to what i think the issue is, just based off of the research that i have done. These injectors are extremely vulnerable to moisture and any sort of trash being pushed throughout the fuel system. Fuel pressure is also extremely high wothin the fuel system. The nozzles themselves are made to atomize the fuel into a mist, unlike the older/non-common rail fuel setups where fuel was sprayed in, but not atomized. That being said, consider trying to push fuel through these tiny holes at extremely high pressures, and then water(which has no lubricant relatively speaking) along with tiny particles of trash and debris. The water will slightly wear away at the holes, causing damages to the outside walls. And as far as the trash goes, the tiny particles can easily clog the holes over time, either damaging the nozzles and/or clogging them. Either one of the scenarios here can disrupt the proper amount of atomization of rhe fuel. This causes the fuel to basicaly just drop in the cylinder and bypass the rings. This is something else that you can check for in your oil. If your oil level has risen, then it highly likely that fuel has bypassed the rings and made its way into the oil. One other thing i would highly recomend to anyone running a 6.7 is fuel treatment. I use Hot Shots Secrets on mine, and it seems to have helped preventing any water build up. It also adds a proper amount of lubricant to this already dried out fuel they have us running in our vehicles. I know this is a lot to take in. Didnt mean for it to be so long of a description lol!!!! But im a firm believer in details, so i cant help but make sure to let others know as much as possible. I hope this helps you out in diagnosing the problem. If you have any other questions along the way just let me know bub. And good luck.
I constantly change the fuel filter at the block my 12 only has 1 FILTER! I think that’s nuts. I try to run howes but I will give that other treatment a shot. I think throwing in another filtration system is a smart move too looking at the air dog, do the 13s come with two filters ? I understand exactly what your talking about with the atomizing of fuel that fuel needs to be vary clean and lubed up for sure
hey i know this comment is 4 years later but I just started getting this same exact noise on my truck. the only difference is itll do it for some time then go away for a few weeks and then come back outta the blue. i’m damn ready to just burn this thing cuz i cant figure out what it is. the noise is coming from the same place and it sounds the same
i haven’t gotten a cel either. truck has been running perfectly so far too. the sound just comes up at random times and then goes away like a half hour later. haven’t heard the sound for a few weeks until today
Crazy I was troubleshooting this issue on my brand new 06 2500 5.9 cummins engine today. It's got less than 400 miles on it. I'm talking to a T, turn AC on and knocks, put it in drive it knocks, put it in reverse it knocks put it in park, no knock. First thing I said was it's a injector issue. Scratched my head as the injectors are brand new with less that 400 miles on them.
@@sneakypete830 for now at least 😂 But hopefully for good. You need to run Hot Shots dude!! Every tank, put that stuff in there. I have had zero issues since all of this.
It’s not all that hard to do honestly. If you have the basic intelligence for mechanical work, you shouldn’t have any problems changing it out yourself. I had to change the number six injector, which is the hardest one to get to. Just make sure you, take a look at the whole set up and see what tools you will need before you start. Also, however, many injectors, you replace, be sure to replace the theater tubes as well. Re-seating an old feeder tube to a new injector is likely to cause leaking. And just make sure to keep the work area very clean.
thanks it was not that bad replaced #2 sound still there. the thing i question is that when i unplugged all the injectors the sound went away and after i put the new injector and crossover tube the noise is still there. only diff is now there is no change when i unhook the injectors. but changes when the clutch is in. pulling the trans now wth@@shugbe5477
@@toddlungman68 were you able to narrow down which injector it was before replacing it? It almost sounds like you either replaced the wrong injector, or there were multiple injectors, causing the noise.
@@shugbe5477 yea that’s what I thought so I unhooked one injector at a time.. took out the injector that I replaced reinstalled re torqued everything. Triple checked the valve lash. All good it sounds and runs a bit better, but when the clutch is in it’s almost gone and when I let the clutch out holy fuck. The funny thing is that I didn’t notice that at the beginning. When this all started I was driving and I could swear they I heard a metal ping/plunk lol
Stuart Grimes, in one of the other videos, i explain how i diconnected the #6 injector, and the noise stops. I did this with each individual injector just to make sure this was the problem. Only time the noise quit was when #6 was unplugged. I have since then, purchased a new injector and a new fuel tube. Also purchased the EGR delete and grid heater delete as well. I will be putting this back together this weekend. I have high hopes that this is the issue, lol!! I will be posting an updated video of the results so that maybe i can help someone else if they are having these issues.
Love and hate for diesels man….love the mileage and power….hate the Sounding like it’s going to window the block when it’s cold out Shutting off the truck to order thru a drive thru 4.5 gallons of oil per change 2 batteries Weight of the front end when driving off road or in soft terrain Love the Towing 8k at 75mph and getting 15mpg never comes out of overdrive on the hills just pulls like a train Getting 18-19 mpg empty in a f350 Cclb fx4 6.0 The jet sounding turbo whistle my 6.0 is an 03 The look on my brother in-laws face when he finds out my full size 4x4 truck is getting 4 mpg more than his midsized suv…during the same road trip and my family has space for days
Check injectors. And if it has been doing it for a long time, check your oil also. Because of the fuel is not being sprayed correctly into the cylinder, it will end up, bypassing your rings and draining down into your oil pan.
Yup, sure was. #6 to be exact. Took all of them out, sent the bad one in for the core swap, cleaned all of the nozzles on the other ones, reinstalled all of them and she has been good ever since.
