2013 6.7 cummins ticking noise?

I hear an odd ticking noise coming from my truck. It's ticking while idling, revving, under load or no load, clutch depressed or not. 2013 Ram 2500. 39,000 miles. G-56 6 speed manual. Any help is appreciated. - Caleb
*Update*
Fixed! This sound was caused by valve lash that was way out of spec. A few exhaust valves were around .032". Reset them to .010"int/.026ex and the truck is purring like a kitten.

It's normal. Welcome to the diesel world. Your valve lash will be loose when your engine is cold, plus all your oil has drained to the pan. Once the engine warms up, your good to go. It's has to do with the CP3 pump timing.

My 2018 engine was making noise like that. I burnt all the fuel with anti gel in it. (Clean diesel brand ) the one Cummins recommends. I took truck on Hwy and kept RPMs over 2000 and then refueled with fresh fuel no additive. The next day I started the truck it was like the first day I bought it. Maybe it was in regen mode. I don’t know. Just happy it’s quite again. Good luck to you.

Have heard a very similar noise on one of these trucks that had a couple of loose torque converter bolts.

How did your valves go out of adjustment when your truck only had 39K miles on it that’s unusual

Almost Every 6.7 Cummins after roughly 150k miles needs a valve lash adjustment it’s in the manual too, mine just started doing it when cold but once oil makes it to the top and warms up it goes away, running rotella T6 also

Any updates ? my 17 started this with 10k miles dealer adjusted valves they were way out of spec sounded like marbles in the top of the motor that went away now it has this stupid tick they say it's normal but I'm not buying it .

Doesn't exactly sound normal to me. Maybe rocker arm coming loose? Just sounds out of tune.

Will you be able to provide me you tire size? I have a 13' Ram 2500 also but I don't want to lift it, i want to get as wide tires as possible without lift it up
