Great review. Really love the technology on Fiesta,From the 3 time award winning engine to interior technology, (voice command, touch screen, backparking cam, automatic side mirrors & d' exterior is totally a head turner, looks like subcompact aston martin.Best car on its segment, no wonder it won car of the year
Useful, concise information, Alex - as we've come to expect from your reviews. The one thing missing from many good reviews, including yours, is expected reliability - a critical metric for prospective buyers. Terrific review, all the same.
I just bought a 2014 fiesta se model in auto and its awesome I love it. Very economical and smooth fun to drive. I was daily driving a 92 nissan 300zx witch has allot more power and is fun to drive. But I love the fiesta too very good bargain.
Superb review. Brief, to the point, addresses everything I'd want to know. Well done. Still LOVE my turbo sonic, but good to know American cars finally showing some competitive offerings!
i am happy to watch that video of fiesta being road test i just bought a brand new n today its a ford fiestas 2014 se hatch and this video give more hope that i did a good thing buying the car thanks man great video
i love my car so much. perfect first car. i just wish mine had the leather seats & stuff(i'm sure we all do), but being a college student, i can barely afford the one i have. (the 2016 base.)
Best car on its class, more like a subcompact aston martin, won international engine of the year award 3 years in a row 2O12-14. got five stars on Euro Ncap Safety Rating, 2O14 Automotive Excellence Award for Handling, Won Car of the Year by Topgear and more than 22 other awards and ford used to own Jaguar & Aston martin. Check all VS youtube videos that includes fiesta and fiesta always wins
I never got why people complain about the Fiesta screen being too far. How often are you fiddling with the screen and gadgets when you're driving? Probably never, or at least you shouldn't anyways. Why would they design it closer to make it easier for you to distract yourself touching it while driving? Just reaching for negative points I guess.
MY 2009 Accent SE revs 3000 at 60 mph not 70 and 70 is well above speeding in many states anyway, so not bad Does anyone remember the old Ford Festiva from the early 90's with the 1.3 engine? I had a 93 5 speed and that car was so fuel efficient, well over 40 mpg on the highway and about 40 city so I cant see why manufacturers cannot build something like that now? It had 160,000 miles and still ran like new and I wish I never sold it, yes VERY basic with a straight rear axle and interior but for sheer reliability and gas mileage by the far the best I ever had- The 1.3 was extremely durable and no problem cruising on the highway, only those 145x 12 inch tires yes 12 inch were NG so I replaced with 155, I remember buying the tires at Walmart for $$17.00 a piece then
I'd guess it is due to more weight in modern cars for safety features including better reinforcement on body frame. Also, people want more gizmo's in cars, softer riding suspensions, more space in the car and everyone drives an automatic as well.
I'm looking at either the 2014 Fiesta or the 2013 Sonic. Trunk space is important, but handling is even more important. Would you say the Fiesta drives a lot better? Is the Fiesta small to the point of uncomfortable compared to the Sonic? (I am small, 4'11". But sometimes have taller passengers.)
It is interesting that the PowerShift transmission was described very similarly to how you described Fiat's robotic manual transmission. That reminded me, do you have any plans to review the C/V Tradesman? I am thinking about a small cargo vehicle, and the torque numbers for the Transit Connect and NV200 do not inspire confidence.
Hey Alex, have you test driven the 6 speed Powershift in the Fiesta? I previously had a Focus with it and the shifts seemed clumsy at times in comparison to the automatic in the new Mazda 3. What do you think?
Dual Clutch transmissions are always a trade off in terms of feel in favor of fuel economy. It's a trade I'm willing to make so I didn't have a problem with the Powershift transmissions like some have, although it is without question less smooth than the Ford 6-speed auto.
Yes, this reviewer is apparently unaware of the serious problems the Ford Powershit automatics have. In Australia, a class action against Ford is currently under way, to recover damages due to this faulty transmission. www.news.com.au/lifestyle/real-life/news-life/new-document-shows-ford-knew-about-its-powershift-transmission-problem-as-early-as-2014/news-story/64190e3d7ebfdd3c8468a22421f7c766
In my 2014 Ford Fiesta, there is a black box behind the rear view mirror attached to the windscreen - it has become unattached. I’m going to get more two sided adhesive tape to reattach but what I’d really like to know is what is that box for? Cannot find mention of it in the owners manual … anybody??
Based on your name I'm sure you're not biased at all lol. Do you know if there are any mods available for this car with the DCT? I'll be getting one cheap from a family friend soon.
I really doubt if there is some difference between Honda Fit in USA and in Europe and Asia, just because HONDA fit can no way match a Fiesta in terms of handling and dynamics and it won womens world car of the year award as well for the totally brilliant handling that only Mazda 2 could match, FIT is no way a better handler than Fiesta, Fit has better power, and very stif suspension but ride quality is choppy and no way match to fiesta over bad roads,Fit feels like a tin can made light weight car in front of SOLID tank like Fiesta Worlds 3 best handling subcompact r Alfa Romeo Mito>Mazda 2>Ford Fiesta and 4th was VW Polo 5th was Honda Fit, this was an official report and agreed by more than 220 auto professionals journos from around the world
reliability and space efficiency aside Fiesta is unmatched maybe interior material quality, interior quietness, tech features and luxury features available, power trains, gearboxes all r good or among the best,I specifically mentioned handling because In Europe Fit vs Fiesta was tested many times and Fit failed miserably in terms of body roll, steering feedback, body control above 60 mph, agility, and overall ride and handling balance In America C&D and Alex Dykes says Fit handles better than Fiesta, but all other magazines including Motor trend says Fiesta is way better than Fit and I agree with them, even consumer reports reported that Fiesta is best handling supermini lunched in USA till date
***** The Honda Jazz (same car different name, Fit means female genitalia in some European languages) can't hold a candle to the Fiesta when it comes to handling. The Fiesta in European spec is simply the best drive in class. However I've understood from American friends who've tested the Fiesta that the US version is much softer sprung, so it may be that the difference between the two for you guys is harder to notice.
HB45175 no it's not softly sprung as a fit,or I drove it with 1.6 l engine in IOWA and I felt it was way way better than fit, even still all reviews say fit is best drivers car, bull sh it,I think they think fiesta is micro compact and isn't competing with fit, Fit vs fiesta, fiesta wins hands down
Sotiris Vasilopoulos I didnt tell Jazz didnt handle well but nkwhere near as good as Fiesta and ride quality over broken roads and interior cabin qwuietness the Fiesta just destroys the Fit
It can be, yes. You have to drive very defensively. It requires increasing your follow distance so that you can see around the vehicles in front of you and being very wary of getting in larger vehicles' blind spots.
Ha! It's not scary. I started on a b13 1994 Nissan Sentra (Tsuru) It was quite fun to drive something so small because I was able to fit into gaps in traffic that most couldn't and even with the pick ups and suv's around me I never felt in danger just because of the agility a small car brings
uk574 It's not not bad. I've driven small cars most of my life (despite being 190 cm tall). You have one advantage over the big vehicles in a small one - maneuverability, so you have a leg up in accident avoidance. There is unfortunately one disturbing trend these days for small cars - expansive center consoles, taking away much needed knee room for taller drivers, so it is becoming harder and harder to find a comfortable small car.
+uk574 NO because you're surrounded by other small cars like the Honda Civic (#1 seller) and Prius (best selling hybrid) and Jettas and Versas and Focuses and Accords and Camrys and other compact/midsize cars that are the same height as your shiny-new Fiesta .
Once you've established the fact that you're talking about transmissions you can shorten your dialog with "5 speed or 6 speed. this video was a little hard to follow and kind of tedious out on the road test. Just a suggestion.
+mario v NO because 5 speed or 6 speed doesn't tell us what KIND of transmission. Is it manual or automatic or automated manual or CVT? A good reviewer explains this stuff to his audience, so we can make a wise purchasing decision .
He mentioned that the car was available in manual, and automatic several times. Honestly hardly anyone drives manual any more. Manufacturers will not make a model that's manual only. The vehicle would be failure. It wouldn't sell at all, or not sell enough units to just the research, development, and production costs.
very informative review however (i know) you talk super fast. its quite tiring. maybe you should slow your speech a bit or maybe introduce some pauses. overall , nice review.
+Eddie Last THE majority of the money from each car sale goes to the engineers and technicians. So most of your Ford purchase goes back to Detroit. If you buy a Honda or Toyota most of your dollars go back to Japan (even if the car was assembled here). If you buy Volkswagen or Mercedes most of your money goes back to Germany (even if the car was assembled in Mexico). 70-80% of every dollar returns to the engineers/techs in the home country .
João Simões What I mean is that my brother, who is in college right now, bought a 1986 Honda Accord from a retired female in Florida. It drives VERY well, the a/c still works, brakes are good, the paint is a bit "sandblasted", but the interior is VERY good and it still gets an average of 28 mpg. He bought the 30 year old car for $1700 and I will bet you that his car will get him through college without any problems. Try that with a Ford?
American Fiesta is going to get the new Ecoboost with AT transmission and its already tested in Malaysia and will be 1000 $ more than the current Fiesta 1.6 versions but its damn worth it check out this awesome review of Fiesta Power shift ecoboost ----paultan.org/2013/12/10/fiesta-ecoboost/----

New models of cars usually come out in winter. The 2014 was available in the winter of 2013. As a reviewer I imagine he has press credentials, such credentials usually grant you access to new models before the general public.
ethanol fuel system acidic self destruct, nissans even catch fire from corsion of the fuel system from ethanol they wont tell you about.,to avoid this fuel disaster, get a diesel. Our friend in India will get them, were is the highest number of choices american style we are not offered anymore?
America gets screwed again, India gets the Diesel version, we dont.... they have a new 2014 Diesel model hummm france 80% of small wittle tiny cars have a diesel engine, prolly because its cheaper to drive a diesel in a small light car, again we get screwed, still repairing our old diesel mercedes from the 80s....
