In this day and age where manufacturers are looking for maximum mpg and power , I do not believe any manufacturer does not pay attention to the airbox, or has an airbox that restricts airflow to the engine by any significant amount. Claims of extra flow often are at the expense of good filtration e.g. K&N and/or are just not necessary. Many vehicles I have experience of can flow enough air through a stock airbox to feed considerably more horsepower than the engine is capable of. I've always felt that getting as cool an air as possible into the engine is desirable, but even then when you have things like an EGR valve recirculating hot exhaust gases into the cylinders I have to wonder how critical it is. What I like about this product is that it actually is a cold air intake, so many I see, or that people use are the opposite, they remove a cold air system built by the manufacturer for some partly exposed filter that is drawing a lot of the air from inside the engine bay, not from outside and also do not have a feed into the airbox that can create a "ram air" effect at speed where air is pushed into the airbox through a feed at the front of the vehicle where there can be considerable pressure when moving at speed.
I have this setup on my 2016 Tundra SR5. Love the design. I had to trim the coupling at the throttle body/intake tube as it was just too long! I did in fact wash all the oil off the filter and I bought the Rough Country pre filter and have it over the Stillen filter provided in the kit for better filtering of debris. I’ve recently been getting A MAF error code with this intake P0101. And a check engine light. I’ve cleaned the MAF with CRC MAF cleaner and it returns. Installed a vac gauge, no leaks. And installed a fuel psi gauge to check that too with no issues. I previously had a K&N intake setup with no issues. If I block off the front ram air intake pipe and clear the codes and reset the computer the code never comes back after driving for a month I remove the plug from the ram air intake pipe and the MAF code comes back. No other codes just one with the check engine light.
I like what I see,but was there any issue with water getting in to air filter box or engine? And does the filter get dirtier faster, With the air flow tube connected to the front grille.
I have the Rough Country pre filer fitted over the Stillen filter for better protection of debris. And yeah in my case the front ram air pipe does make the filter get dirty faster.
