Sir , you definitely have a great and very personal style for reviewing cars, and love your thorough way of analyzing and testing the real world mpg of cars . Great work .
Thanks for the kind words! I've been shooting reviews for the Autobytel channel for a couple of years now. Haven't posted a lot of reviews into my MPGomatic channel since then.
I personally love the Audi A7; I think it's their best looking 4dr car by far. And with Quattro AWD (Canadian winters are scary) 400+lb/ft torque & fuel economy that would make an Accord blush, it's the absolute perfect car. Now if it wasn't so freaking expensive...
Hey Dan, GREAT VIDEO! At least you got to ENJOY the Car for a while. We had to WATCH IN ENVY! lol. Nice to see REAL WORLD MPG. Hey the Base Gas model according to Edmunds sells for $62K. I know, I know that's 2 loaded Accords. Maybe we can buy one a few years old for cheap Dan. Say $40K?
Thanks for the review. It was really interesting and seemed very thorough. May I suggest that you consider a "lapel" microphone or some other type that would make the understanding of your voice better? The ambient car sounds made it difficult to hear all that you said. I really wanted to hear your impressions without interference. Thanks
Many thanks for the feedback, Kansas Pen! In-car audio while driving can be a tough nut to crack. I have an omni-directional lav mic, but it never delivered great results on the road. I just picked up a cardioid (directional) lav and started testing with it yesterday.
MPGomatic I did not realize they were expensive. Maybe you could do a technical demo like review for a diesel hybrid when something comes out? That would be neat. By the way do you have any footage on the new generation 2013+ Ford Fusions with the EcoBoost or hybrid powertrains? I would like to know how the MPG stacks up along with your other thoughts. Nobody does the MPG thing like you do Dan.
Thanks Zeal S! I'll definitely dive deep on diesel/hybrid when it's finally available. VW might be first, but the XL1 will be quite expensive and in very limited quantities. I haven't published anything on the Fusions. I've been in the hybrid, but as I recall, I didn't have enough footage to produce a full video. I need to revisit that ...
There already is a diesel hybrid in Europe :) www.autoexpress.co.uk/citroen/ds5/62651/citroen-ds5-hybrid4 www.topgear.com/uk/citroen/ds5/road-test/hybrid4-road-tested Frankly it is pretty "old" now. But unfortunately car reviewers say that it is not engineered well (transmission leaves car in not very good rev range in turbo lag territory) :( We have to wait for other manufacturers to try this technology. I have heard that Mercedes it playing with that type of cars.
Several diesel-electric hybrids exist, none available in the United States: Mercedes-Benz E 300 or S 300 BlueTEC Hybrid Peugeot 3008 or 508 HYbrid4 (and Citroen variants) Volvo V60 D6 Plug-in Hybrid Volkswagen XL1
You mean the navigation screen that disappears beautifully into the dash and has a sculpted rear end to actually match the rest of the dash unlike the new Mercedes whos screens are basically just tablets permanently stuck on the dashboard? Are you high are just fucking stupid as fuck? Nooooo one agrees with you You expected them to put it in a big ugly dashboard hump into this sleek interior layout? You are the only one on in the history of this car that has said that. It is so good that other manufacturers even copied it, Such as BMW. Would they have engineered it to descend so beautifully into the dash if it was an after thought? No they would have just stuck it on there and not even sculpt the rear o fit., Fucking idiot.
He didn't try in launch mode.... hold at 1500rpm with brakes on, mash throttle and release brake pedal at same time. That's what the 0-100 kmh time rate is based on.
