I spent six days in the mountains setting up this seasons elk camp.
set up tents, collected fire wood, cleared trails of fallen timber ect,
each late summer and fall i have the pleasure of working with Black Otter Outfitters and alongside one of the best Packers and Horsemen in the country!!!

Great video. Getting me pumped for next archery. I have a canvas tent and stove but no horses so I pack in on foot. That is a lot of work. My camp is at 11,000 ft. But it gets me in shape for season.

Great camp, stock and awesome elk country! I'm headed to the Bob for my third time this Sept., can't wait. Love elk hunting wilderness areas in MT, WY, ID and my home state of WA. Have a great season and good luck!

That actually comes from mules horses and donkeys that were used in the war each bell means something. I believe that 1 bell is a pack animal 2 bells is broken to saddle and 3 is broken to saddle and cart. Made it easy for people to know what animal could do what

Man, I am diggin' on this vid!! As much as I love my huntin', I love ta just get out inna woods and dink around with things that need doing. Cuttin yer own wood warms ya at LEAST twice. And makes for a good night's sleep in some squared away woods, too. If I were a man of more substantial means I'd gift ya a proper GoPro just ta see better quality vid from ya! d;^) Looks like a great time with great folks. There's nothin' better. Thanks much for sharing this.

How do you know the mules won’t take off miles away? I have a few horses I’d like to use to pack in and out but I’m not confident I will find them after hunting 5 days, they’re both real broke and won’t bolt but i thought they might slowly wander so far I’d never find them

Thanks Paul!....a spike camp is also known as a drop camp...thats when you set up a remote camp for a client or two that are planning on hunting without a guide and on foot...we provide shelter, food, and pack them in and out...woods

Looks like a great trip. hard work but good work. Do you use the mules for packing and the horses for riding? Is this because the mules are more hardy? thanks for the great vid share, safe travels, Frazer.
@MTwoodsrunner
@MTwoodsrunner 10 лет назад
Thanks Frazer...we use both horses and mules for packing and for riding...they say mules are better in rough terrain, but ya can't prove it by me...woods

I had a hunch you did somethin like that... you just seem like the type... horses cant survive were i live. cant fit through the bush & nothin to eat. mules are stubborn enough to try ... but still.

Chain saws are not allowed in wilderness areas. If I heard or saw you doing this you better be ready to defend yourself.
