2014 Cadillac Cts front brake pads and rotor replacement

Do you even have to pull those calipers off the rotor to slide the old brake pads out and the new pads in? I always take the calipers off and set it on the rotor and then I take one of the old pads and turn it backwards and lay it against the piston and use a c clamp to tighten it and push the piston back in but this guy at Autozone told me it's even faster to change pads on these type of calipers with the pins and how he could just stick something in the opening on top once the pad is out to press the piston back in without even removing it off the rotor

Would this be the same process for a 2018 CTS?
