In this video I upgrade the pads and rotors on the rear wheels of my 2015 Cadillac CTS VSport. The brakes in the back are single piston floating caliper type and are very common on the front and rear of many cars. This video covers in depth when to change brake parts, choosing pads and rotors, and a detailed how-to on installing new parts.
Note that some cars have a caliper piston that must be TURNED back into the caliper, not compressed. If so you will see slots or holes on the piston and will require a special took from your autoparts store.
Be sure to check out my other video on doing 4 piston Brembo style brakes that found on the front of my 2015 Cadillac CTS.

This has to be one of the absolute best mechanical videos I have ever seen! He explained all the details with awesome video. It was well lighted, he showed multiple camera angles, and very good lighting. All I wonder now, is how he painted those calipers so they looked so very good.

Thanks Bruce you noted all my goals! I have a video on painting the calipers too but there’s also improvements to be made to my technique.

So did you not have that round hard plastic seal like part on your rotor? I have a 14 vsport, had to remove them from both sides to wiggle the rotor off. Broke one I don't know what there called tho. Seats on top of rotor on the center hub arear.

Hmm yeah I don’t know what you are referring to. Are you sure they weren’t spacers that someone put on?

Great explanation and demonstrations. I own a 2006 CTS Sport and have all of the necessary replacement parts and various tools. My car has dual-piston calipers. I doubt that this changes the procedure at all. do you agree? I have postponed doing the brake job because of the recent back issue and the fact that even though I was hearing the brake wear indicator in parking garages. Turns out that the pads are not in need of replacement, though. The parking brake pad is, though. Do you have any advice for adjusting the travel on the adjuster? I'm very familiar with doing drum brakes with their star wheel adjusters. I think that the parking brake pad is original to the car and doesn't hold all that well. The car has 87K miles on it. BTW, I was taught in driver's ed in the early 1960s to always use the parking brake and I do. I never refer to that as the E-brake. Thank you so much, Ron

If it’s the parking brake that runs inside the rotor disc like a drum brake (as on my car) I’ve only taken apart once on another car. Was quite a pain. If the pad doesn’t look bad it may be a stretched cable which is even more of a pain. As for adjusting, you just roll the little adjuster barrel until it’s expanded to where you almost can’t put the disc back over it.

@@JetFuelOnly Yes, mine has the same hat type of rotor as your car does. Thank you for responding to my question. I very much appreciate it. I’m very much a CTS fan. The coupe is a real beauty. Ron

What if the head of the rotor bolt is broken? Is there a way to still remove the rotor?
@JetFuelOnly
@JetFuelOnly 3 года назад
Drill out the bolt. Not much harm. You can live without the the bolt and there’s other holes I think

@@moniack I have seen 2 year recommendations by VW/Audi/Porsche... so i have always done that, plus you should bleed your brakes anytime you go to the track... some tracks require proof of having been bleed.
