I know this is a old video and its informative. The only issue is at the beginning when he said someone cheaped out and didn't do the job properly because they used a type of RTV gasket maker and thats why it leaked. The factory uses a rtv type of gasket maker. They dont use a premade gasket. Both gasket will work. Rvt works a little bit better because it will fill in any defect but you have to be careful not to over do it. To much can get into to transmission and block fluid flow. Other then that the video is a great way to save money and do the repair yourself. People like this go out of their way to help us out and i truly appreciate it
No matter how big the drain pan, no matter how much cardboard, I always always manage to make a mess dropping a transmission pan. Cat box litter and either Simple Green or break cleaner now a must for me with these jobs.

Awesome work on the video. I'll be doi the same this weekend as I think I have a leak on my drain pan gasket. Van has 75k on it and is low on ATF. Being a cheap Bastard, rather than but the test dipstick, I measured and scratched into the back of my oil dipstick. I just clean them well before dropping it in the tyranny line. 👍🏽

That is correct, I would use the transmission temperature reading off of a diagnostic reader. Then take that temperature and see what fluid level you should be at from using the chart that comes with the testing dipstick. Thank you for watching!

Thanks for the info. 9:05 I'm pretty sure that somebody was Chrysler. I think these come from the factory with a silicone seal, not a traditional gasket.
The dipstick reading is temperature related,,, the fluid is added cold so it is filled to the cold reading of approximately 5-15 cm after it is warmed up it should read the upper range on the chart,,, filling it full ( max reading) while is is cold can result in overfilling the transmission,

Thank you and great info.... I just bought a used 2012 town and country with 155k, the previous owner purchased the car at 70k. So basically when I purchased the vehicle at 155k it was driven 85k without no trans change. Should I change the fluid or leave it alone?? And thanks for your time and effort...

I just did this yesterday, thanks for the video, gonna confirm the fluid level today. I did also change the transmission lines in my van yesterday it’s a 2014 and they are prone to start leaking FYI. What did you torque your pan bolts too? I couldn’t find this info anywhere!!!
I torqued mine to 30 inch lbs. It is so minuscule you can tighten it with a ratchet snuggly and it will be 30 inch lbs. Just do not start wrenching on it, that will over tighten and possibly strip the threads. You are most welcome for the video, I am always happy to assist in making the repair easier for you. The torque specification for the pan bolts is 105 inch pounds when using RTV (which is not “cheap”, it’s actually what the manufacturer specifies.) I used a Fel-Pro gasket, so I went a bit lower on the toque. I did about 90 inch pounds (~10 nm). I initially torqued to 7 nm, then gradually stepped up to 10 nm to monitor the state of the gasket and ensure that I wasn’t breaking it. I’ve seen others go with 60-75 inch pounds with the Fel-Pro gasket.
Hello, I have a 2012 grand caravan with over 200,000 miles on it. I recently started having problems with the transmission when I make a stop and try to accelerate again the car won’t go with winding noise. I turn the car off and crank back up it will drive but once I make a stop same thing happens. How will I know it’s my transmission or something I can change that cost less?
Is there any engine codes that are coming up? Look for transmission codes to be specific on the code reader. if you have that option. It could be a range of things but from what it sounds like from your description is a pressure problem in the transmission. It sounds like it's not building enough pressure to engage the drive gear
Hey I enjoy your videos! Especially since I do have a 2014 Chrysler Town and country. Do you have a video on replacing the whole fuel injection filter wiring harness? Specifically, removing it from the main connector?
I'm sure the RTV silicone on the pan is factory. Advance only sells the filter without gasket. Their comment is, "Pan is installed with silicone seal at factory."
Hey love your videos and have a question. Bought the special dipstick tool and checked levels. The tool dipstick bottoms out where it ends at curl. Mechanic says you have to use oil dipstick and force past and get to bottom of pan to check trans level. Which is correct? Thanks!
Hey Spence! Thanks for watching and your continued support. The transmission dipstick should go in the transmission tube 16.6 inches. So from the tip of the dipstick measure 16.6 inches and that will be the correct test length. This is directly from Mopar manuals I pulled up on Alldata.

I have a question i bought a used minivan 2013 Chrysler town and country with 174××× miles now it has 176xxx miles and since i got it i noticed that it has some late shifts but it drives really smoothly when there is no traffic and today i got a check engine light after 3hr of driving i checked the code with my ob2 scanner p0868 trans fluid low. I have the service book and the transmission fluid/Filter was changed at 150××× miles. Now the question is should I change the transmission oil/Filter or just add oill. With those being the size they are the torque spec is very low. 32 inch lbs. You can usually hit this torque with a rat get and socket by applying enough pressure for the bolt to be snug. Thanks for watching!!! Hit subscribe to catch all my future videos!
Do you know about how much fluid you put in? And if you are starting from a cold start the chart says 5 mm minimum 10mm to 15 mm maximum, Is that the numbers you use? Getting the right amount in is the scary part for me the rest I'm good with, cause it's about to happen.

@@Sellthoseflippingcars if its the same trani as 2016 dodge and I think it is ,then there are 2 filters the one in the pan is a strainer filter, the other is an engine oil looking filter up next to the pan in a round housing. Look it up. Thanks for reply.

5.9 quarts and on average they charge $190 to $210 to replace the transmission filter. Remember to replace the transmission pan gasket when replacing the filter. This way you have a proper seal. The links to both of these parts can be found in the video description
@@wilfredobruckman7496 the torque on those bolts is substantially low at 32 inch lbs. The easiest way to do that is to tighten then snugly but not too tight.
I bought 6 quarts of ATF+4 and had some leftover. Which I always like having some leftover in case you ever need to top off or another vehicle needs it.

It is, but if you leave 2 bolts in the middle on one side it will spill all out the opposite side. That will make it easier to put the drip pan in the right position.
One of your sensors on your intake is reading too low. Try unhooking your battery for 20 minutes to reset the ECM. If that doesnt work, do an ohm test with a multimeter on your sensors and see which one is malfunctioning. If you have a code reader with live data it will show the pressure readings of the sensors as well and will make it easier to find the culprit.
@@Sellthoseflippingcars shop tried replacing the 02 sensor and still got the p0219A code after resetting ECM. I'll try disconnecting the battery tomorrow.
