On these Chrysler minivans, typically have always used Chrysler/Mopar parts.

Thank you for having the guts to replace that little O-ring seal. Every video I watched 100 videos and no one would replace that because they are afraid and I don't see why after watching your video you are awesome awesome. Sounds like that mini van engine is about to blow. Sounds like a diesel

MY trans BOLTS WERE M8 x 1.25. also always use the chrysler filter not auto zone or after market it may cause ur trans to whine and starve the pump pay the extra buck and save yourself a headache GREAT VIDEO also change the filler neck gasket by not doing so may cause issues it's in there hard so be careful and pry it out.

Great job. I installed a drain plug in my transmission pan (drain plug kit 80250), works perfect and this always takes 6quarts exactly.

Sure would be nice to drain it with out dropping the pan. But in order to change the oil, you should change the filter to.@@SunshineStateofMind1981

Hey man do we still need to buy the measuruing dipstick. I mean can we just measure the recommended oils needed would be enough? What kind of oil should we use specification? We only have amsoil and liqui moly which kind. Thanks!

Is there an order to torquing the pan bolts or is that only when you use a gasket instead of rtf?

Great job. What happens if you put to much oil in? What happened when you replaced it for the second time? Why is'nt there a drain plug like the engine oil?
@APDTY
@APDTY 10 месяцев назад
An automatic transmission is essentially a high-pressure pump that uses fluid to create pressure to change gears and work solenoids. Putting too much oil in can have many issues; sometimes, the problem of a poorly shifting transmission is too much or too little oil. Too much oil can cause foaming with air and or create more pressure or temperature than required. The first thing we check and fix when a customer has a transmission issue is the level and color of the fluid. We cannot diagnose a transmission problem if it comes in with too much or too little fluid. As far as a drain plug, that is the vehicle manufacturer's choice and most of the time it is because the pan has to be removed anyway to replace the filter. I'm sure manufacturing cost plays into it also.

Thanks for the reply. Can it be any kind of filter, or do you stick with Mopar parts?@@APDTY

Great question! Aftermarket brands are wonderful as long as they are known trusted long time brands like WIX, ATP, or our brand APDTY. As professional technicians who made a living diagnosing and repairing vehicles, we have been somewhat trained or conditioned over the years to use factory parts. This is for many reasons, including the fact that the OEM is usually very high quality, usually the exact same part we are taking off, and since we only get paid to do a job once, we do not want to waste time if an aftermarket part is wrong or subpar quality and we have to do the job over again under warranty. This actually happens often and is sometimes what sets an efficient technician apart from a not-so efficient technician. Also, OEM parts are usually the most expensive and techs usually get paid a percetage of that. A known good part is very much appreciated. A known good part that can make you more money, well you can figure that one out😆.@@deanjagger1190

I don't think I would have botton this van if I new that it did not have a dip stick for the transmision fluid. What were they thinking when they came out with this engine.@@APDTY

I have to replace 2 Ox Sensors on my 2014 Town and country van. They are both upstream. I guess I should replace the downstream sensors at the same time? When you replace the transmission filter and oil, should you do a flush of it???

Is this a 'how to say the wrong thing several times and not realize it' tutorial. The pan bolts are 5/16" not 15/16" and it's an aftermarket pan gasket, not filter he's referring too. I get it, we sometimes misspeak. But he put it in writing on the screen during editing too. 🤔
@meched45

The bolts are 8MM
@APDTY
@APDTY 10 месяцев назад
We actually have a different employee do the video editing and that employee is not a automotive technician, so if the tech misspeaks, then the other employee goes with it. We find it funny and all of us that have done videos, find out we mis-speak way more than we realize. Do 100 videos of yourself and look at how many times you say different words than you think you said.

Changed filter and fluid today, put fluid in an hour after replacing seal and tightening bolts, drove it an hour later. Leaking underneath now from what looks like a single point at the rear of the pan. How long should you typically wait to put in fluids after replacing the pan seal, and how long to wait to drive after adding fluids?
@bobsoft
@bobsoft 8 месяцев назад
Its a good idea to put the RTV on the inside of the bolt holes, not the outside to prevent leaking thru the bolt holes. Let it sit at least an hour before filling with fluid. You dont need to wait to drive. Run it thru the gears before driving with the brake on and then check fluid hot.

I guess ive got the only odd duck. I did a complete trans service and purchased the dipstick tool and it took all of 9 1/2 qrts and i didnt drain the torque converter... i skipped the 15/16 socket as suggested. So i guess the torque converter actually drains in these without drilling and plugging ??
@dant4777
@dant4777 8 месяцев назад
Would probably be a good idea to let people know they need to let the pan sit for 24 hours at least to let sealant cure before adding fluid if not using a gasket

Why do you need to check level if you just refilled it
@APDTY
@APDTY 10 месяцев назад
Because the level changes with temperature. As the temperature increases, the pressure increases and the fluid level will be different based on temp.

why change the bushing if the filter is so tight?
@APDTY
@APDTY 10 месяцев назад
Good question, you could probably re-use it but depending on the filter kit you get, a new bushing is usually included. Since oil may eventually degrade it, and since you get a new one, might as well use it.

Did you ever find a resolve to this? Same issue. Dirty fluid. Significant metal shavings (no chunks). Won’t reverse. Was recommended a full rebuild for $5800. One they put it back together it’s running worse. Wondering if it’s caused by something that was “moved” or maybe fluid when they dropped the pan.

15/16. Bolt head size. NOT even close. So YOU are saying they are just 1/6 inch under one inch. Your NOT going to put the FILTER back in. And it didn't come fr0m the factory with a filter??? Maybe a ,,gasket. Good vid.
