I had my 2017 Sonata 2.4 GDI on a road trip with two female friends and I often hit 105 mph. They never even realized I was going that fast. The car was so quiet and stable they just chatted like nothing unusual was happening. It felt like there was lots more speed to be tapped but I was traveling with a group of about 5 other cars so I just paced with them until we reached our exit... about 150 miles. One of the ladies said that it was the quickest she'd ever made that journey. I just smiled. LOL
The non-turbo Sonata is governed at 130mph now. The previous generation Sonata with V6 ending in 2009 was not governed and ran up to around 142mph to 145mph depending on atmospheric conditions, altitude, etc.
There is good reason for that. By law, a car cannot exceed the speed rating of the factory installed tires. The GLS probably comes with H rated tires (top sustained speed 130mph). The turbo models (and previous gen v6 models) probably had higher speed rated tires. Most likely the base model of the previous gen was also governed (or simply did not have enough power to exceed the speed rating of the tires).
These new Sonatas are nothing like the old ones that were naturally aspirated v6 engines that pushed 150mph top speed. Turbo charged 4 cylinders are just not cutting it.
@@austindotwav some people cruise at those speeds. I personally cruise at 100-130 depending on traffic, also a higher top speed means you can be at a lower rpm at a higher speed resulting in better fuel economy
I have a 2013 sonata gls 2.4 with just tints & black stock rims & cars pull up next to me everyday & night trying to race & I literally beat them every time especially on the freeway this car is a beast
Remove speed limiter. 2.4 GDI mated to the 6-Speed Sportmatic can reach 145+ mph. I know, because I've done it in my 2020 Kia Optima S (modded, 210 whp)
bought a used one from a dealership and the acceleration was something i wasnt used to. before i even got on the highway from the onramp i was doing 100 with the dealer and two friends in the car like it was nothing...
Well in the video, he hit 147 kmh somewhere around 80 to 100 mph, then kept on going to almost 150 mph. If you actually watched the video, you would have seen that this goes faster than your van.
Very true, all I did was floor it for 3 perfectly straight miles, clearly not the way a good driver would top speed test a car. The weather, wind, and fuel octane has no effect, all in the driver.
