The 8-3, #15 Auburn Tigers traveled to Tuscaloosa, AL to take on the top ranked, 10-1 Alabama Crimson Tide. The 79th Iron Bowl lived up to the rivalry's reputation for thrilling games.
Big 12 game has 100 points scored: "These are terrible teams with no defense" SEC game has 100 points scored: "tell your grandkids about this one! Classic!"
I disagree when people say that the Big XII's weekly shootouts are an inferior brand of football. They play some really exciting games in that conference. That said, I personally found this game very frustrating. I guess I tend to be more defensively minded and was just about pulling my hair out at the defensive breakdowns.
Most 'Bama fans would tell you that this is not a classic, or that this incredible lack of defense is actually kind of embarrassing (which it is.) The only teams that even pretend to play any sort of defense in the BIG 12 are K-State, Texas, OU, and TCU. Other than that, pretty boring watching 50-60 point games every week. Defense wins championships, and 'Bama proves that nearly every year.
They were good and could've won it all, but the D was lacking since every team threw deep on them. 'Bama defense was better against the pass in 2015, with the addition of Minkah Fitzpatrick coming in, as well as Eddie Jackson moving to safety instead of corner, and Cyrus Jones having a great year at corner. Not to mention the pass rush with Tim Williams and Ryan Anderson. You just can't say that this could've been Alabama's best year when the defense just wasn't up to par with Saban's other teams.
