This video was the most helpful thing for this install. It took me about 5.5 hours and I have never done anything like this before. Many of the issue you showed were helpful for us to avoid in our install. I even think that Rough Country watched because the parts that came with my kit were adjusted to resolve some of the issues you showed in the video. Thanks for posting this.

Good video. Fluid Film helps the rubber inserts on the suspension parts go back together and find their proper location. Also helps prevent rust on all parts. Thanks for the video.

I helped a friend install a Rusty's 5.75 inch lift kit on his Jeep. We also had a few fit and finish issues. Being mass produced its somewhat understandable but you'd think with the amount of R&D that goes into these kits everything would fit together perfectly.

I loved the Cushman series. I bought this kit the other day and I made sure I eyeballed the washers to make sure they were aligned. At 16:00 that was tough for me to get the wrench to hold the top of the washer while I tightened the bolt. I did one wheel at a time and it took me two hours at a very slow methodical Pace to do it. I might try and just zip it up tomorrow without the wrench and see if it grabs. In any case just taking another moment to thank you for your time making the videos.

One of the Biggest Reasons I LOVE your videos, was exactly what you mentioned at the end. In Real life, unlike a "Slick video"... Something is always a little off, or not quite right, like having to cut off a shock rod, because the nut is frozen on..LOL. That reason, and I like to watch others do some of the things I do, with the same reaction. I had to chuckle just like you did when the wrench got stuck on the passenger side rear. Never fails. You learn quick to keep your fingers out of harms way. Sure glad I somehow discovered your videos. They are always a pleasure, Keep up the AWESOME Job... You do some Amazing Resurrections!!! Looking forward to the next one...

hi mistie1, I did this to my 4x4 and you always seem to get some sort of problem with aftermarket parts, mine were the same nothing major just little bits that just rattle you. its a shame I put it down to poor workmanship, I always say if im not happy with it then the customer won't be happy. Oh no you can not have the bird, it's not oven ready! Keep up the great work love watching as things like this are a passion to me as it's something I've always enjoyed again thanks mark

I have been watching your videos for a long time now. Just making an offer to you. I am a dealer for most everything you could imagine bolting onto a car or truck. If you ever have need of anything like that, you can have it whatever my cost is. I saw recently an older video of you doing a Rough Country lift kit. I get a substantial discount on that type of stuff. Consider my offer a small token of appreciation for all that you do.

I cant tell you how many times I've bolted a wrench up into something. I did a driver seat swap on an old XJ Cherokee. Fixed it up and sold it. As far as I know there is still a 10 mm wrench pinned up between the seat and rail.

Mustie,Just one comment,in a shop where I worked we found that while installing metal bushings into rubber grommets,if we used the assembly lube that we used to make up hydrulic hoses,the bushings were easier to install,suspension settled in faster and there was no damage to the grommets.

you getting that spanner stuck reminded me of my first vehicle ((austin mini van, 850 cc engine) that I took to a local garage to have the brakes fixed, picked it up the next day and drove it round for 18 months before spotting something sticking out under the front. got down to find a flare nut spanner still on the brakeline not 2 " from the road. I don't know if that surprised me more or the fact that it got through an MOT test without anyone spotting it!

Hi Darren, When I see you on video, I feel as if I'm walking into the garage door and catching you perform your magic with the normal ease you work with. When you take us on rides like that, makes me home sick for New England in the Summer. I love the finally; those bossy male turkeys were strutting their stuff as they pushed their women along. A little like most women shopping and the men hurrying them to get there. A great video as always; you have quite a talent.

Rough Country didn't give you a front track arm relocation bracket? Weird, I have never installed a solid axle Jeep lift without either a bracket or a completely new adjustable track arm to make it longer. It pulls the axle towards the drivers side if you lift the Jeep without using either. Great install video by the way.

just to let you know Darren. At short line garage in Mahwah they use a stick to go from front inside to to opposite side to set the front end of busses. Then the rear of the tire. You can do the same if you like or a tape measure may cut it... Just a bit of help... Jack

Excellent `how-to` video ! One note to add - the `driver`s ` side of vehicles will most often sit a tad lower than the `passenger` side due to the driver being the only person in the vehicle most often . My father ( RIP ) pointed this out to us many years ago. Enjoyed the `wildlife` shot ( groan !) at the end. Tom-turkeys struttin` their stuff !

Great job. I would advise the owner to thoroughly pressure wash the entire undercarriage- then a few coats of Fluid Film. I saw those "hangers" and other hardware-to-body stuff was rusty, and will quickly develop holes. I'm surprised- no bellows for the shock rods?

pinch the lock arms of the clip pins together with needle nose pliers, and they are easier to get back through the hole without breaking them. i worked as a parts puller in a salvage yard, can't break anything taking it apart to get top dollar. every clip, bolt and ring went with the part.

Great video. I watched it after I installed my RC 2.5" lift kit, just to see if others ran into the same snags I did. One question. You pointed out that the driver's side front brake line doesn't fall exactly into place for the relocation bracket. I observed the same thing, so I took the bend out and made it work. I found the passenger side front to be much more challenging though, and you didn't show that part of the installation. Any issues there? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! PS, I also had the same issues with the nut and washer welded retention piece for the rear springs. No I don't have all the tools you have so it was a gigantic PITA.

Did a 2-inch lift on my Vanagon a couple years ago. If I'd made a video of it, it would have taken me three days to produce! The rears were simple. The fronts were a total bear. Had to modify a set of spring compressors to make it happen and order a set of upper swing arm spacers. I'd hate to have to get back in there again.

How come the front panhard rod was not corrected, whereas the rear one was, with that dodgy looking bracket? Would that not cause misalignment of the front and rear? The whole lift should be done with springs, not dodgy blocks too. I have a solid axle truck (Nissan Patrol) and the panhards have to be matched front and rear.

I have a 1998 Wangler Sport 4.0 (TJ), bought it as is, already on a super high lift. Yes, I take mine off road often. But the husband/wife project has a mixed bag of mismatch parts. Say like the rear axle, it has stock short control arms on top & long control arms on bottom. Because of the two different lengths, when hitting bumps the rear axle twists. Front is on a 6 inch lift while the rear is either 8 or 10 inch lift. So... It's something else to drive on the highway. Handling sucks - period!

Easiest to just measure distance between the front of the front tires and the rear of the front tires at center height. Set them just a hair closer at the front. Then drive it straight into the garage and set the drag link to center the steering wheel.

not that I did actually see you vend the front brake pipes to get the required length but its bad policy to re bend pipes especially steel pipes, its sets up fracture points, and using the ring end of a combination spanner is always better than the open end, unless access denies use of the ring end, otherwise v.good stuff!

As having a few encounters with Rough Country I will tell you that those shocks last no time, on 3rd set in 2 years and no off roading. Rough Country kits are ok but almost always have fitment issues and overtime you will find things will loosen up even during just normal driving conditions .

doyouliketowatch I bought the jeep about a year ago . The shocks were starting to get a little rust so sooner or later it was getting time to replace them . All the salt up here in mass kills the under carriage. You be sirpry lot of people tell me I should take it off roading . I just love it to much I don't have the heart to do it . I learned my brother friend has a jeep that's a little older then mine and took it off roading hit a patch of ice and did a lot of damage under his jeep !
@doyouliketowatch
@doyouliketowatch 7 лет назад
Lagunalove45 I haven't had the heart to off road mine either lol. But I liked the look of it. I'm in Ontario Canada so we get the salt and snow too and it sucks lol. The kit itself was ok, but I had a real tough time with the bushings and shocks and I've written the company and they blame it on my seasons, so there was no winning on my end. What I ended up doing was ordering shocks and bushings from sky jacker. I don't know if their (rough country) kits are more suited for dry climates but I personally had no luck. I'm not trying to deflate you on it by no means, I wish you the best of luck with it and who knows maybe you'll never have issues. But for me it got tiring of replacing the same parts, readjustments so I felt I needed to upgrade.
