I am not a fan of working on VW/audi/bmw - at all. they always seem to have an odd way of going about engineering.
In this video you will see the halfway point of me working on a 2014 Jetta TDI. The thermostat replacement is fairly straight forward IF you have the right mindset - tools for the job.
Hey guys! This is my first video uploaded as a mechanic. I have worked on cars for two decades now and while I love it, sometimes it can be frustrating.
My number one rule of thumb is confidence, and the will to get the job done. With this mindset you WILL go far. Nothing comes easy - everything requires work.

What is your typical coolant temperature range? Mine seems to run much colder than previous vehicles I've owned, 170ish.

Yep, that is what I saw driving this thing around while I had it. Around 170. Smooth car. Love the diesel power

What seals the two plastic pipes together? Just got one apart and no seal to be found anywhere on old housing or plastic pipe

There should be an o-ring that seals the pipes together. Without this, I would assume there would be a small leak. Maybe the original seal failed? I would make sure there is some sort of seal in there for the system to hold pressure. Good luck out there!

I have to tackle this soon. You replace the crack pipe o-ring?

I did not replace it. However, I checked the O-ring and it seemed intact, so I kept it installed. So far I haven't had any complaints from the customer. I would at least check it for sure to verify its condition. Good luck!

How did you go about flushing the old coolant out? I'm looking to do this on my 15' Golf TDI and want to make sure I don't forget anything. Figured why not change all the fluids now that it's 7 years (almost 8 😳) old and has 75k miles... Now I gotta figure out how to flush the abs system

I didnt flush the old coolant out as this was a clients car they were about to sell and voted against it(cheap). I would recommend a vacuum system for the brake lines to flush it out. You want to make sure there is zero air. good luck!
