Mercedes Benz is trying really hard to create their vision of a collision free driving environment. I applaud them for that.

I own a MB with these systems and the work great....and have saved me from a bad situation. The auto brake system does intervene quickly and stops the car very quickly. Lane keep works great. so does distronic.

I think the abc suspension in my 2007 s65 is incredible, cars with magic body control must be amazing, i know the abc rides much better than the airmatic suspension, i cant imagine it with the cameras

From my point of view this would be an awesome car if you have kids and you want them safe no matter the road conditions that might affect the it. But what i think is that if a single..let's say electronic "thingy" fails to work ,the whole systems will just shut off. I personally like the car to be as simple as possible , not because it is cheaper but because it easier to understand, and you get the feeling of control.

Reminds me of those futuristic cars in the movies. It's finally happening!!!

Mercedes has improved all their Models ! If you were driving an old E-Class it is no surprise that there are some faults. You can't say that all german cars are garbage just because you had one car that sucked. The Made in Germany Brand still stands for high quality and is recogniced as such around the world.

The S-class is awesome, but many of the features referred to here are already available on the 7 series. For example pedestrian detection was first introduced by the 7 series (in the night vision system). Of course there are systems that the s class has that the 7 doesn't just as their are systems that the 7 series has that the s-class doesn't. The 7 series is generally more advanced than the s-class and even if you disagree, one thing is for sure the 7 series is better than you realise.

The driving aids are cool and all but I do love the active self adjusting suspension. That is cool. I drive a 2007 Audi S6 , love the power and all but hate the ride quality. My next daily driver will be either this S class or the new audi S8. Its going to be a tough choice.

I have to disagree. As long as cars are driven by humans, there will always be accidents. That has nothing to do with driving skills or whatsoever, it's just human nature to make mistakes. Those systems help to prevent the consequences of those mistakes as much as possible, so the reason why they're so succesful is the huge improvement in safety for humans in and outside the car, not the lack of driving skills that many drivers unfortunately have.

I can't help but think about 10 years down the road after buying one of these: is all this electronic stuff still going to work? How much will it cost to fix?

Information: Almost all these nice asissting systems can be easily deactivated or not bought as an option. So if desired it can be a very good drivers car. It is lighter and faster than the current bench products and it consumes less at the same time. So it's your choise to make a starship enterprise or a drivers limousine out of it. Mercedes-Benz best it noting in this case.

Mercedes announced that they are not in favor of fully-automatic cars. They've gone for assisted driving instead. Besides: You know that you don't have to select these options, do you?

True this! Always assume the other driver is stupid then you're safe at driving. With that we will always be alert on our surrounding when driving.

the problem is if some one bumped into your bumper or scratched a fender how many sensors will break and I believe it wont be cheap to fix

Not really the only thing that could cause a bit of annoyance is the vibrating but that's not that bad.

Really its magic body control

This is some great tech in this car, but i can't help wondering; how long will all these things work without failing? there is so much going on simultaneously. and with that adaptive suspension, its doing so much work, how durable will it be, and imagine repairs. well of course if can afford this car repair and maintenance isn't and issue, but my god thats a whole lot of potential for malfunction.

I have an older S Class, within a month Airmatic strut failed when doing 70mph which made my arse snap! fix at cost of £800. Dash lights up like a christmas tree with warning lights and now parking sensor do not work, even Mercedes specialists are reluctant to go near it. Every time you get a warning light on an S Class I say.... thats a Grand!

All i can say is BRAVO.

My question is what happens when the sensors break, you won't be able to drive the car and it'll break randomly and won't let you turn into different lanes

Theres probably an option to turn off the assistance... like how some cars have traction control buttons.

The Pre-safe brake with pedestrian recognition can prevent collisions with people at speed over 50 km/h ? Up to 50 km/h ?
