Ladies and gentlemen, Thissss... is the birthplace of quirks and features. And as just about everything in the automotive world, it started on an S-class - because of course it would.
so many ppl on here hating on Mercedes for putting too many features into the car. The S-Class is the flagship that every other manufacture looks to for ideas, which get implemented years later....
I don’t think so. If you sold your organs alone you would have 40 million dollars and you can open a dealership with over 20 s class there don’t be ridiculous 😂
Everyone, especially those who comment that their lesser cars have some of these features, praise this car. Because many of the technologies that eventually make it down to your cars for an affordable price were first introduced by the s-class.
+AdvancedPerson Actually the deprecation on S Classes is terrible within the first 5 years of their release. Wait until 2020 then you could easily afford one for around 40 -50K
MinecraftPlayer#1163 Minecraft & Stuff I don't know if you're lying or not, but you can't be mature enough or credible to have money for an S-class. I guess you own a youtube channel, but I'm sure it doesn't provide income.
+MinecraftPlayer#1163 Minecraft & Stuff You don't own one. You're not 27 , just look at your name alone. It says it all. Also , you sound 12 in your video's. Bad kid.
I think what he meant was things like volume knob, climate control, 1 button-on-knob to control the massaging seat without staring at the screen like an idiot.
I agree. A year ago I bought my first car with a touch screen and I don't like not being able to feel for a button without having to take my eyes off the road. Your basic HVAC and entertmt controls should always be off the screen. Should your touch screen fail, all your components controlled by that computer become inoperable.
Buttons are so satisfying especially if they’re nice and weighted and premium feeling. It’s like an iPhone piano app vs a Steinway grand piano key, the physical aspect makes the difference.
0 to 60 in 5 seconds on a 5,000 lbs car. Which is super fast considering the weight. This car is a beast. I fucking love it. I don’t care if I won’t be able to sell it for a good value, this car really changes your mood. If you’re having a shitty day, at least you know you got an S Class that can calm you down
Alexandre Poirier But not everyone who can afford to buy this second hand can afford to do the maintenance. And if only a few people buy these cars used, the first hand owners wont be very happy when it comes to selling this. Not to mention that this is just wasting earth resources on absolutely stupid things. Why do you need an electric motor for seatbelt holder? Also the owner may have enough money to repair it, but wont be very happy to spend every second weekend in the service with another broken electric motor.
Coming back and watching these old videos you really see a massive difference in quality of the videos. Now they have higher resolution, better writting, and are more detailed than they used to be.
i look forward to 10 years from now, when this car has come down in price significantly and autonomous car systems are not cost-prohibitive to add onto existing cars then you have your own personal chauffeur for driving you everywhere and you can just chill in the back where all the nice things are
Chris Brown The one thing this car doesn't have is toilets so you'd have to wait until the computer gets you back to your estate where you could take your royal dump.
My first Mercedes was a 1991 E class, I started getting S class’s since 1999, and changed up “about” every four years, I must say my favorite one was & still is the 1999 model, it had just enough electronic.....
The doors should open and close automatically. There should also be a feature that changes red lights to green, and a way to force lesser cars to the side of the road. Also, I would like a cloak of invisibility for the occupants so the unwashed can't peer into my inner sanctum. There should also be way to cleanly and discreetly vacuate my bladder and bowels built into the rear seats, with a champagne douche option for the ladies.
My S63 AMG has a small refrigerator in the center console of the back seats and the front not only has the heated armrests it has cooled armrests which I use a lot since I live in the south.
sevan grigoryan well a rolls has active people who will send a helicopter to come get you if your stranded in it and if the wood inside breaks they will get new wood from YOUR tree it's fucking ridicules
Hey Doug, I hope you’ll see this. I was looking review for 2021 brand new Mercedes s class and crossed with this. It is pretty huge step for 7 years for you. Congrats.
Amir Hussain, in the 90's everybody did say that same thing about heated seats but now every car has them. Same thing with massage. In 10-20 years every car has seats that massage you.
Kustu that’s wrong heated seats are inexpensive but Massage seats are and they are expensive to maintain also the heated seats still not in every car it’s still an option
Its illegal to use your cell phone here in BC when behind the wheel of a car because it can distract you.....but goin thru a computerized menu to find and turn on the "heat your ear lobes only" button is safe! lol
My neighbor has one of these, I've only seen it from the outside, but I really like the look of it, I think it is a great improvement. Not saying the older one looked bad, this one just looks great.
You can always tell the cars that were made to be driven around in. Bentleys, Mercedes, etc, when there is a feature that puts the front passenger seat the whole way forward and pops out a footrest.
Honestly, the way you produce your videos is I think pretty much as good as it gets. It is witty, comical, honest, fun to watch reviews. The myriad of cars you test as well, older vehicles which no one else does as far as I am aware. Todays cars are lacking I feel in many departments, mainly build quality issues, especially with fake exhaust tips, a speciality of Audi and Mercedes-Benz as a few guilty examples of not how to get people spending £50k on a motor and unless it is an Merc AMG or Audi RS series, you have plastic tips I am afraid on your exhaust systems, they also look god darn ugly too. This would never be heard of in the era of many of the cars you test. Those who buy these cars, do not really know the truth, but it sure is funny when you tell them that their £80k Audi Q8 as a fine example of an overpriced and overrated vehicle has plastic exhaust tips, ha ha. Doug, please can you shame these brands by going and testing them and I would really love to hear your honest opinions on why cars of today simply are not upto the standards they were in the past, for build quality in specific.
I love Doug. He made me laugh out loud 3 times this morning reviewing two different cars. I -wish he would do a review of the '92 -1999 Mercedes W140 S320 I am currently driving but that being said; I have to assume that this was one of his first reviews and quite frankly to sum it up using a useless adjective: It's ridiculous.
The feature i like the most was the dual view dash board LCD panel you look from the passenger seat and it shows you one thing and from drivers side it shows you the nav etc
Amazing car indeed. All those folks that write about poor reliability in the long run fail to understand. 1st hand owners don't keep them very long. That's just the way it is. You don't understand that because in you're shoes, it makes financial sense to keep the car. In their shoes, it makes financial sense to own a car that has current manufactures warranty. Therefore they lease 2-4 years. They then invest their money in markets that make much more money that average folk can imagine. That's how they can afford a car like this.
250k a year is middle class, just so everyone knows. From the experience of a net 350k earning family, you are mostly correct except we do actually buy the car and then trade it in to a dealership a little after the warranty ends. Additionally, most of us (well the functioning and level headed) are aware of lifestyle creep and are perfectly ok with less expensive cars. Final point: the middle class gets where it is because it works hard and it works smart, investing saved money is absolutely key to getting there.
250k a year is NOT middle class. Middle-income households - those with an income that is two-thirds to double the U.S. median household income - had incomes ranging from about $42,000 to $125,000 in 2014 - Pew Research
Actually, too be fair, I am using statistical evidence from a world renowned research group. And you two are basing your distinction of middle class on your own misguided cultural concept of middle class. Or another way to say it is. I didn't make this figure up off the top of my head like you two did. Furthermore ,location does not matter unless we are talking about someone outside the United States.
+J Saini that's the thing though. He never did say if he was in the United States and also, 250k is upper middle in San Francisco (in my mind at least) and I don't see the "facts" for upper middle so my statement still stands true.
+Nicolas Henriques yeah, the good and bad thing about German cars is that they depreciate VERY quickly, so for people wanting a good, quality car, the second hand BMWs, Audis, and Mercs are a very good value. The only thing to worry about is the cost of maintenance.
Yea lol just got reccomend to this in 2020 and cars sure have gone far, nowadays even hyundais have 360 cameras, and safety feature like lane keep, emergency breaking, automatic cruise control and etc have now made their way into mainstream cars, same thing with heated/cooled seats
Wow this car is very personal im definitely loving those ambient lights even though they may be sorta random but still it shows the creative fun side of car designers and companies.
2014 S 550 $40,000 ( Original Starting MSRP $100,000 Not including addons). A Depreciation of $60,000 in three years. That's $20,000 a year, which works out to $1666 a month. Which comes out to $56 a day. which is works out to $2.31 for every hour of ownership. 2015 S 550 $58,000 (Original Starting MSRP $162,000) 2016 S 550 $ 80,000 ( Original Starting MSRP $95,000) 2017 S 550 $ 85,000 (Original Starting MSRP $96,000)
it most likely wont. and even if it will, ppl who can afford this will just take it to MB dealer and they will fix it. i can bet they will come to you and pick up your car that doesnt heat your arm rest :D
***** That's not actually all true. Yes, it loses value fast like any other very expensive cars, but compared to its direct competitors it loses less and certainly doesn't lose its value as hyper fast its higher end competitors like Bentley and RR in their first 5 years. But of course it is all relative what we are talking about here.
Given car tech is trickling down so quickly, when the W222 S-class reaches down to the level where plebeians can afford one, your Camry would be as luxurious & well-equipped, if not with the build quality of a MB. But compared to all other big luxury sedans, the S-Class is one of the most enduring. In comparison, the A8, 7er, LS all depreciate MUCH faster than the S-class. It will be a long time before they catch up. Just keep waiting...
+repairdrive try a few months. then again this is a high-quality luxury vehicle that is not a daily driver. This car is to impress people or for the weekend.
