When I first saw the front end I just thought "wow it's like Mitsubishi isn't even trying anymore" Don't get me wrong they have some amazing cars in the past. I think Mitsubishi needs to create a car that's going to save their ass here in the us. They either need to bring the eclipse back or create a whole new powerful car something that can sit next sit next to the evo and say "Hey look I saved us" because if they are putting all their hopes on the evo to save them it ain't gonna work. I love the evo and I respect it
I’ve been playing around with rallying a 5spd manual one of these at a local rally school and holy hell these rip. It’s the 2014 gt with the sport package. The power is a little lacking but it handles insanely well in the corners. We put it up against a crv rav4 and ford edge and it beat all of them on our closed 1.8 mile course closed was the rav4 8 seconds behind
I just bought an Outlander brand new 2014 for less than $22K (out the door). I chosed it over the Rogue and Outback for a few reasons. Price (^above^), better package (tow hitch, auto starter, etc; Outback has no third row), room/space (Rogue's third row is cramped), warranty (10yr), and cabin noise. The only thing the Rogue had over the Outlander was the MPG (26/32) vs (24/29) and the look of it. For the Outback (24/30) and cabin noise was as good as the Outlander but no third row seats, which was a must. Driving feel was a little better though. So far, I avg 27mpg. It doesn't feel cheap. The cloth seats imho are better over the leather. The interior (w/ the cloth seats) have a better balance of colors. I went into my weekend thinking to get a Nissan Rogue, switched my focus to the Subaru Outback, and ended up at Mitsubishi driving home in an Outlander.
Honestly I really like this particular outlander. It's interesting how they demonstrated its capabilities with jeep like offloading. I would say for a crossover like this it is underrated for positive performance. Mine is a 2015 v6 outlander se awc. Same grey too. It's my best vehicle yet. I recommend this. He's right about the 2.4 cvt. I do not recommend that one at all. Too sluggish and far less reliable. Not enjoyable. Also the cost for fixing and repairs for cvt is atrociously expensive.
I figured I'd chime in here. I currently own (but my wife drives) a 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander GT. I bought it in May and have about 7k on the clock right now. Obviously it's too new to comment on reliability or anything, but so far so good. Obviously there are MUCH nicer CUVs on the market right now but in my personal experience, there wasn't anything that fix EXACTLY what my wife and I were looking for. What we wanted/needed was a seven passenger SUV, the ability for AWD/4WD, a passable towing capacity, good gas mileage, a lengthy warranty, and great safety ratings. Some of the creature features we wanted were navigation, sunroof, leather, heated seats, hands free, etc. My budget for this miracle car was $30k signed, sealed, and delivered. It's a tall order to be sure but at the end of the day, the Outlander GT was the only one left standing that could deliver all that we wanted. I think I paid a hair over $27k for it in Virginia. There are things that I love and things that I hate about it but unless you have a ton of money, I feel that you are always going to be constantly weighing the good versus the bad. The styling leaves much to be desired, but I didn't want a new car for looks, I needed it for utility and safety. The interior is sparse but functional and clean. I'm 6'2" at 220lbs and I have ample room up front whether I'm driving or as a passenger. I've ridden in the middle row with mild success on short trips as well. I love the gas economy, my cost to insure, and the space for hauling stuff. Things I don't like are the third row. You have to be under 12 years old to use it comfortably. In that same vein, the removable headrests are kind of stupid on the third row and I feel that they could have been engineered a bit better. There's no place to store them except in what should be an extra storage container in the trunk for first aid kit and jumper cables. Instead that area is wasted with huge headrests. The process to fold down the middle row is kind of convoluted and a pain in the ass until you memorize the steps. I would have rather seen a one or two step process rather than a four step process. All my friends and wife's friends that have ridden in it seem to enjoy it and they are mainly impressed with the cost versus feature aspect of the car, as I am as well. At the end of the day, I can't tell you that I'm THRILLED TO THE CORE about our Outlander, but I can honestly tell you that the purchase was justified and I don't regret it at all. It's a pretty pedestrian CUV that serves its role nicely. Just my $0.02.
So are we just ignoring the S-AWC selection? Mud/Snow? Lock? You completely ignored that you can put it in lock which would have allowed you over that one rock. I can’t tell if this is on purpose or…what I don’t know. I think I smell a Mitsubishi hater
I don't understand people saying the interior is not high end for what? High end interior is the aim then buy a BMW or a Mercedes's or higher end car .. with Mitsubishi you got what you pay for mid range SUV nothing else ...the value comes from reliability and Japanese engendering not form flufly dashboard and NASA fitted equipment...
With this kind of effort, I don't know if Mitsubishi Motors North America will last long... Mitsubishi is in dire need of a restructure or new leadership. They can make well-engineered cars but... they're having a hard time trying to win over the average consumer.
Here's an older version of the Outlander off-roading on trails way harder than you are on. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-isCEgzRXOmI.html
I have a 2014 GT V6. The stock Toyo tires were not made for snow, gravel, dirt, or mud. I now have the new Cooper Discover Endrumax tires. The ride feels much more substantial. The vehicle has always been good in snow, except with the stock tires. Actually, very good in snow, even above 6 inches deep. Light trails work is not problem with an upgraded tire.
Watch some other RU-vid videos of people using their Outlanders in other countries and you'll see them doing way more and hitting much harder trails with great success. The S-AWC is a great system and if you push it, you'll go farther than you'd think. You need to give it some throttle to work, and you aren't doing that, so you are getting caught up on things you shouldn't be. Let somebody else on your staff try who will push the vehicle the way it can be.
Correct; that's because Mitsubishi Corporation has starved its automotive division for over a decade. Remember when DiamlerChrysler ignored the Chrysler division for a decade? Remember when AMC didn't put a dime into R&D throughout its entire lifespan post-Rambler? The automotive division of Mitsubishi is practically a write-off for its much larger corporate overlords.
Does this thing's face remind you of the face on the black and white soldiers in the Star Wars movies? Why the hell do you rev the shit out of all your test vehicles? wasteful.
CVT is a big problem itself .... But that doesn't make this stupid car better than the pathfinder ..... the pathfinder got more juice more style and for sure more luxurious than this plastic box
I still think that the Outlander is in the same class as the Pathfinder because this replaced the Montero Sport. Now since both of these SUVs was once a body on frame design and now there little crossovers or unibody as they call it now and I just hate that I have a 1990 and a 2003 Pathfinder and I'm now in the market for a new body on frame SUV people keep telling me to try the 2014 Toyota 4Runner but I don't like the way they look nowdays. Mohammed Khalil you got your SUV game up you know your stuff !
It looks sad, because Mitsubishi as a whole is struggling. It used to have a direct-injection engine back in the late 1990s, but why it doesn't use it today? By the way, the V6 engine only uses premium fuel.
This vehicle has traditional Japanese styling which shouldn't be surprising to anyone. I really wanna like the Mitsu but that underpowered V-6 and that gas mileage do not add up. The price point isn't bad though because that's the fully loaded version, so for the budget conscious it might be a contender.
Nathan doesn't look like his shirt says (PIMP) :) Сутенёр :) Чуть крупнее надо было на футболке написать, все равно только русскоязычные поймут надпись :)
I would like to see these reviews on the roads they are meant to be on or will be used on. How bout snowy suburban streets, stop 'n go traffic, putting kids and stuff in it???? Be more realistic than going on trails. How bout reviews 2014 Lancer Ralliart.
Mitsubishi is literally falling apart, they've lost so many models, they don't even have a mid size car any more. The Lancer looks very dull, even the EVO looks just bad now, and the new Mirage looks so plain. The only one that does look decent is the Outlander Sport.
I have a 2015 (same suv) and if you want you can use low gears to crawl down a trail. Yep this thing got a t-case! Same procedure as a truck put it in neutral shift your 4x4 button to lock (50/50 fr/RR) and bring down the shifter to low! You can even shift with the paddles! Great for light trail riding or hauling a trailer at low speed. When things get serious...do yourself a favor buy a used 2006-15 swb 🌮 trd just like I have! You wont cry for scratch or a dent on the body. It make a good daily for my girlfriend...
These are made for snow and rain. Not Off Roading. Subaru will always be the best. However, if you need 3rd row seating? hard to beat, and these are quite reliable and a great Value. Also, the PHEV is awful cool now. 30 miles EV. Troubles it loses THAT 3rd row seat! They need to figure out how to put batteries and not lose it.
I agree with Nathan when I 1st saw this redesign I was like are they for real.. It looks sad.. Literally. Can u guys review/ off roAd a 2014 Hyundai Tucson limited awd??
Hey Nathan what do you think of the 'Updated' 2019 Outlander? The interior/exterior has had a bit of a minor refresh from the 16-18 and the seats are suppose to be vastly improved! Very likely going to be getting one mid 2019 once the bran new 2020 model's are getting ready to show up. Gotta get me that end of model cycle discount baby!
I really like the interior. But Nathan, people don't buy this CUV for off-road capabilities; but for interior roominess and highway comfort. You should do a CUV's challenge in ON-road and family comfort.
