Apples to oranges. If apples were faster and oranges were more luxury. Personally, I'd take the BMW. Still love the GTRs but I like the idea of going fast in a luxury car.
You said you weren't using launch control because it's about the driver not the car... no... no... you're testing cars. I'd say it's absolfuckinglutely about the car. Incredibly weak that you didn't use launch control on a car that is KNOWN for its launch control.
correct, every GT-R comes with launch control.. so may as well use it. also, he never put his foot on the brake and gave it some gas then let the car go... what a schmuck!
This is the worst car review I've ever seen. 5 seconds for 0 to 60 on a gtr seriously, either you have no idea how to drive or whatever you are using to measure it doesn't work.
The Fast Lane Car Turbo cars don't suffer as bad AND their 0-60 time doesn't increase by a factor of 2x... Also, traction control on in a 0-60 test? Lol, ok. He rolled off idle on the GTR run. That's horrible, especially for a performance test... Godzilla isn't "failing" you. You're just driving a supercar with no launch control, traction control on, and off idle. So silly.
Five seconds zero to sixty in a gtr, you obviously don't know how to drive or your making the gtr look bad on purpose, easily 2.8 if not 2.7 zero to sixty
Jay you marvelous mastermind. You figured out our cunning plan to make the GT-R look bad so that it depreciates so we can buy everyone and corner the market on the cars and make a killing. It would have almost worked but for your brilliant comment.
The Fast Lane Car lol by far the best response ive ever read. I do think he could have done a lot better brake boosting properly though. He started to roll forward slowly trying to brake boost. I really enjoy Roman as a reviewer but i do think hes kind of a terrible driver for what his job is. I also think this show should move to another state. The 0-60 loses a lot of credibility on this show. On a side note, 0-60 is a stupid way to measure car performance these days with high HP cars. It was probably a good measure many years ago when cars didnt have enough power that traction was a big factor. Nobody ever races 0-60 and no car enthusiast really cares. I wish you guys would start testing 1/4 times or atleast 0-100.
Jay Singh if the "mile high" mashup means they're a mile above sea level that would definitely a effect performance. just saying. not by 3 seconds lo but by probably half a sec to a full sec
+LaHaine01 The interior in the M6 is way better, but the GTR is not plastic. The leather in the M6 might be better, but everything that's covered in leather in the M6, is also mostly wrapped in leather in the GTR. The GTR even has magnesium paddleshifters
Personally I find the M6 overall from another world, not just the interior. The exterior, the sound, the feel, ... I mean really, who gives a shit about 0-60 when it comes in fractions. A car has to have a soul before anything and Germans have just that.
Love how people are commenting on the GTR's interior and they've only seen it on videos and pictures... I've moved from Audi's to the GTR and trust me the GTR's interior is easy to live with and quite nice. So most of you are only going off what you have been reading... I've got a 650 mile trip in my GTR next Tuesday... I will do a long distance review from an owners point of view as I have done trips that distance in Audi's so have a good thing to compare to.
Haha nice test guys. That M6 is crazy sexy. Hopefully next time you compare a GTR, you can get your hands on one where you're allowed to use launch control. Keep up the good work.
I'm not sure if you really read your comment thoroughly... a high end sports car vs a low end super car. doesn't that seem evened out? Does to me. A supercar dominates the world of cars and quite frankly even all the sport cars (don't get mixed with super cars).
Thanks for the comment. Next time please listen to the video. Like we say in this video, this is the first of two videos. In the second one we use launch control in the GT-R.
I see allot of people are bitching about the gtr when it comes to road comfort. I'm just going to say this. The gtr is a car that achieves greater things then even most super cars. Most supercars that can do what the gtr can and they are probably more stylish and comfy but they are also around 400,000$ more. you can buy a gtr for around $60000 used that's an amazing deal for everything you get. The gtr isn't a shopping cart or a soccer mom van it's a high performance car it's not meant to be roomy or comfy it's made for kicking ass and giving you a big thrill when you drive it.
ermin oruc thats the point of the m6 and why it’s so expensive. Not only is fast as hall and has amazing handling but it’s also day to day comfortable driving down the highway. Anyone can make a fast car these .. making it fast and comfortable is a skill bmw has and does best.
That's why it's called a mash up. I know that it does not make sense. It's like comparing an opera singer's singing technique to a rockstar's. It's a dumb comparison, just like these two clowns. I only watch them for amusement, but I won't take their words seriously ;-) I won't be surprised if they do a comparison between a Bugatti Veyron and a Ford Focus next.
I never understood the BMW M6 until I saw it in person and sat in it. I had previously been enamored with the Audi RS 7 but after sitting in both, the BMW is just so impressive. I couldn't get the smile off my face while sitting in the BMW. Also, the wheels that the BMW has in this vid are just epic looking in real life. Seeing them on youtube does not do them justice. All of that to say, watching the reviews and reading the specs are one thing, experiencing these cars in real life is quite another thing.
SmileyLegoGuy Very, very different. I used to have an E36 3.2 M3 and it is still one of the most visceral driving experiences I've had to date. We tried an M6 when shopping for the wifes new car, and it is much more comparable to a Merc E cabrio, which she ended up with. Congrats on the the car. Like the '72 BMW 3.0 CSL, it will never go out of style. Is it a 3.0 or 3.2?
FAST LANE CAR! Listen up! You CAN'T brake torque a DCT trans!!! NEXT TIME just stomp on the gas if you don't want to use launch control. It will be MUCH faster 0-60. NEVER brake torque a DCT or it will be MUCH slower. Especially a GT-R. Why didn't you test it the other way? Why? Use your brain in the future. You make your living testing cars guys! Gheeez
why cant you brake torque it? i try it on my audi a5 ,it revs to 2.8k and then it launches alright, yeah it can burn the clutch but i dont do it all too often
1:47 says it all. It doesnt matter which one is faster then the other. truth is when you buy a car, you buy it because it suits you best not because of the track numbers. good review guys!
I love how the comments aren't mentioning how the S58 (Forgive me, I'm not the best at remembering) is known for killing itself due to rod bearings and a soft camshaft which both alone can cause catastrophic engine failure, which leaves you with a THIRTY GRAND ENGINE BILL, BEFORE LABOR
I totally don't understand how he could look at those brakes and say to the camera that they are ceramic. Come on, man. You're a professional- don't BS your viewers like that. Just say that they're optional and show a picture in-line with the video or something to that effect.
I'm a big fan of BMW's, but that GT-R is just from another world. It costs 90k, if u have the balls to drive it to the max on a track it can hold up with a 458, 12c, etc. Id recommend the Jaguar XKR-S vs GT-R video of Top Gear to get a sence of what I mean.
Great. Comparing a Civic to a Rolls. The GTR might be fast, but personally, I wouldn't be caught dead in one of those plastic boxes. One has style and class, the other is for pimblefaced kids who thinks Vin Diesel is the greatest actor ever.
Montreal Gal So, you think Paul Walker was a pimple-faced kid who considered Vin Diesel one of the best actors ever? While they might have liked each other and Paul Walker may have had a somewhat youthful appearance, I doubt that. Me? I'm a 39 year old bloke who run a corporate healthcare business, that I own with my wife, and has been, since 2006. Have been quite successful doing so I might add. And do you honestly think I would ever stay anything but anonymous on youtube? Haha, never in a million years. Here's the big five questions. Why did you even think about Paul Walker in this context? Does he in any way fit the description I made, or was mentioned at any point? Who are you? What's your personal experience with the GT-R? What's your claim to fame? Anyway; who does fit that profile, are a lot of 13-16 year old pizza.faced kids, who has zero clue, but talk a big game about the GT-R and think it's the greatest thing ever. I have friends who own GT-R's and I've driven the lot, on and off track. Let me tell you something based on real world experience. They aren't that good in stock form. They have a multitude of issues when tracked, and the fit'n'finish could be a lot better, inside and out. Oh, one last question. What are you doing here again?
ABOlsen69666 You're 39? On your way over the hill dude, nothing to be proud about and good luck to having a long lasting marriage. One more thing, if a rich old hag with sagging tits had a choice between the M6 and the GTR she would definitely choose the M6 which is why I'd would never pick a luxury sports car. It would totally devalue it.
Montreal Gal Well, I have a great marriage, so there's that. I don't worry much about my age, but I exercise and take care of myself. I doubt you'd guess me to be more than in my late 20's, perhaps early 30's if you saw me. Anyway, I am however proud of the fact that I have been financially independent since I was 33, and could retire tomorrow If I wanted to. I'd say that's a pretty good deal. Btw, my wife is 8 years younger than me, so I doubt what I drive attract old hags with saggy tits. When I've driven a GT-R I find it attracts way more teenage boys and truck drivers than anything else, not sure that's better than the old hags. But yup, the 6 series has a bit of a tainted image in that regard. A bit like the Merc SL. It's still a nice car though.
ABOlsen69666 Well we share different opinions on this subject matter but I would feel less insulted by a teenage boy driving a GTR than a grandma driving an BMW/ Luxury sports car.

They mention how the GT-R interior isn't as luxurious as the BMW. If you spend about $123,000 on a GT-R like with that BMW you will have a more luxurious GT-R.
Misbahuddin Hunafa The M6 is more luxurious by nature. BMW is just a luxury oriented brand, which means they can't cheap out anywhere. Nissan isn't a luxury oriented brand, so the bar for luxury is set lower. You can't option up luxury.
Not really, the GT-R is a lightweight, supercar (basically). And Luxury (Leather, fine stitching, etc) add unneeded weight. The GT-R comes with leather seats and a few other places with leather but that's about it.
Real car guys don't put their hands all over the glass and body when they haul their fat azz's in and out. When you purchase a premium vehicle, and maintain it well, part of which is keeping it clean, it just becomes second nature to avoid putting greasy paw prints anywhere on it, even if it is dusty it can still look good if it is not handled. Putzes would not even think of these things.
If I have to choose what to buy, I would buy the M6 ! Way better look, way better comfortable, faster too. For 1.2 seconds launch of GTR I would never sacrifice to buy that ugly brick !
Radu Vlad been badass doesn't really mean good looking. It's ur opinion soo how can u generalise insults to bmw fans? Don't be butthurt the BMW is better. The GTR is only best at 0-60 and track times. The End.
Dear god ***** , you go everywhere on every video of GT-R vs M6 and sh*t on the GT-R... BMW has better luxury yes, but in pure performance it sucks, because on the Nürburgring the older GT-R (2009) goes 7:26.7 and the M6 can barely stay below 8 minutes. LOL
Not following you, only viewing the same videos. You're the guy that start the riots every time by commenting so hatefull on them. Love can be blind, but your love for BMW makes you quite stupid in knowledge of other cars! XD
What did we gain by having a review of these two cars at high altitude? It forced the cars to underperform. The target audience for these two cars isn't in Colorado.
Do you guys ever do reviews of old cars but not "classic" cars? I would love a review of my dream car the 2003 BMW M5. It would be interesting how you guys would critic it considering the age and potential issues that might bring about. I want the car so bad but I'm concerned it's too expensive to keep in running condition.
Most people who claim a car is better because its faster from 0-60 CLEARLY are not real car enthusiast, and probably dont drive a car thats anywhere near as fast as these two. these are two magnificent machines, I would love to own either one of these, I would personaly go for the M6 GC tho, the thing about Japanese and German cars in contrast to what many exp. with American cars is, that they tend to have more horsepower than advertised, talking about high performance models only though.
"the dual-clutch transmission, also called the semi-automatic transmission, the "clutchless" manual transmission and the automated manual transmission."....so...it's an SEMI-AUTOMATIC transmission only clutchless...same thing as a DSG transmission. Thank you for the clarification.
Now do the M6 Grand Coupe vs the Audio R8 V10 :) :) I will buy one of those cars in the next couple of years but don't know which one yet. The GTR is out because everyone here seems to have it and it's less refined. Lol. There are input a couple of R8 and M6 examples though. My tuned daily driver WRX STI already covers the raw, unrefined fun part.
Just curious, but how can you compare the R8 and the M6 GC? If you need the M6 and like how that drives, why are you considering an R8? It would be a more correct comparison to say RS7, Panamera Turbo S or CLS 63S? The R8 is comparable to the 458, 650S, 12C, Gallardo, 911 Turbo S and the Huracan, but of course with the 458 being the obvious choice;-)
ABOlsen69666 because they cost about the same used. Since it's so much money to spend I was looking at the car's I narrowed down. I don't really like the other ones. I've been really considering an Alfa 4C now though.. I realized that on the street I can't even use my Subie without possibly getting in some serious trouble, so the driving experience and looks are the most important. Imagine getting caught doing 200 km/h+.. that would be prison right away.. lol It's so much cheaper too, that would be a downpayment on a house that I would be saving. lol.
ABOlsen69666 458 is really nice. A buddy in town just bought one in red. Gorgeous car. My Subie keeps up off the line, then gets owned :) Anyway, when it's your own money it's not like an internet debate anymore. You just pick what you like from all the different kinds of cars and then decide which one you can afford and which one is worth it or you really really want.
Actually I disagree with golfmaniac007, I think the review style is great. I love top gear and they will always be the best, and your style is your own with a hint of TG. Keep up the good work.
my 335's service took 2 days, and i got to drive a nice 2013 528xi while i waited. what is your point sir? The M6, while an M-powered car, is 400lbs heavier than the GT-R and has a totally different turbo design than Nissan. I love both cars and honestly would favor BMW because to me they are more exotic and appealing than a Nissan.
To everyone that says "I would take the m6 over gtr any day cause its more luxury" : You have never owned an M car before. To everyone that says "GTR is 1000 times better and has better value than the m6" : You have never owned a GTR either. Why choose one over the other and talk shit? They are different cars that exist for different purposes. Own them both, and you will be able to appreciate them.
LOL no. Dudes I can tell you right now the guy in the M6 either doesn't know how to drive or is purposely hamstringing the car. That car will do 70-80 in 2nd gear. There is no need for shifting to third like he is doing in automatic instead of using the paddles. If you stomp the gas it WILL PEEL OUT unless you leave it in DSC mode, which he obviously did. That makes it slow and limited because it reduces energy to the wheels if they start to slip at all. There is no way in hell that GT-R would touch an M6. He probably did not even put the BMW into sprt mode. I am not saying the GT-R is bad. But no. This is not accurate at all.
You really have to respect the engineering they used to make a giant-slayer car with only 6 cylinders. And for the first time, I honestly think a V6 sounds better than a V8. GTR vs M6
i drive this car every day to the shops, on A roads and motorways. I need a big boot to carry work stuff & shopping and need a car to function with 2 baby seats for my kids. I have owned porsche 911 turbo s,tuned supra's aston's etc which couldn't do this and this is on another level for sure. Nothing can touch this on the road and my kids love it! i can do 0-60 in sub 3secs on any surface any time so don't listen them !
I have an M6 GranCoupe (it is a competition) but I can tell that your 0 - 60 wasn't done with the transmission in the most aggressive setting... and you're not using paddles... and I feel like you're in comfort from the way the car didn't lurch forward on the launch... Why tho?
*can't, sorry sir for the mistake. I'm sorry if I seemed a little aggressive. Anyway, I hope you take criticism like food for thought. I'm not saying you're doing things bad, but that it needs a lot of improvment and I hope I'll be able to see it in the following month. Have a nice day, sir. Enjoy the cars you have the chance to drive, a chance I don't have!
You do realize that the reason it doesn't like being torqued up before a launch is because it's an automated MANUAL... THERE IS A CLUTCH WHICH DOES NOT SLIP LIKE A TORQUE CONVERTOR.... If you want to brake torque it you MUST use launch control.
What amazes me is how similar the GTR is to the Infiniti Q60 IPL. It is like the Infiniti Q60 is the poor man's version of a GTR. I have seen people add superchargers to Q60S's and IPL's and those really move out. I have always loved the Skyline and GTR. If I could have any car, I think I would have one of those. But, I am really happy with my 2014 Infiniti Q60S. Another thing I love about the S variant is the front driver's seat. Talk about a lot of adjustments. I am only 5'8 at 152 lbs so for me, the GTR and Q60S are a perfect fit where as the BMW and other German and especially American cars seem to be built and designed for people much broader of arse. I just plain love both Honda and Nissan products...
A super car is a car out of the ordinary in both performance and appearance, usually stand out and be different between sports cars with features that resemble a race car. They are designed to break the laws of physics such as speed, inertia, brake control, torque, precise launch control, where each part of the car has a function. Examples of these (Veyron, GTR, Ferrari 458, Lamborghini, Corvette, R8, SLS AMG, Porsche 911). Sports cars (370z, M3, M5, M6, RS4, RS8, Camaro, Mercedes AMG).
Given the fact GTR has auto transmission, you need to launch using tap method. That is, press the brake and tap gas to about 3-4krpm, relase brake and floor. This method is commonly used for cars with turbo, it's simply building PSI to activate that Turbo and decrease the turbo lag
Thanks for the advice. We're pretty set with our real world testing. Why don't you check out the next video when we use launch control. watch?v=o87sxF3TFEA
He has a point. With manual shifts using the paddles you most likely stay at the higher revs, allowing for the max power since its delivered there. Pretty lackluster review when it is widely known that the GT-R is a brutal and technical all around. Also calling it a jackhammer vs. a scalpel is also silly, It is an all around car, not a muscle car that can only go straight.
A supercar has to look exotic and have good interiors. Example of supercars are the Lamborghini Aventador, Pagani Zonda, Ferrari 458 italia and the Koenigsegg Agera. The 911, Corvette and GT-R are sports cars. The M3, M6, R8, Vanquish and the C63 are luxury cars. The 240sx, 370z, skyline and silvia are tuner cars. The Challenger, Charger, Mustang and Camaro are muscle cars.
The problem is every car cannot do everything. You have to give and take depending on what you want a car to do. I find the interior of the GTR to be fine, good supportive seats, nice driving position, i also like the center console with the computer gauges which look straight from GT5 but its function over fashion, which is how a car like that should be. Its designed to push one button, the speed button and it pushes it better than anything else for the price. If anything i find it too quiet.
I'm surprised the GTR isn't more expensive. If I'm not mistaken it's one of the fastest cars in the world to 60 MPH only behind hyper cars like the Bugatti and Koenigsegg. The M6 is a MASSIVE improvement in the looks department from the previous version. BMW will forever be my favorite car and the M6 and M6 Gran Coupe are BMW at their best.
I don't understand how the paddle shifters are slower...The GT-R needs to rev higher because of the turbos. So in order to do that you need it on manual mode. Every turbo car i have driven including my own 2013 GT-R, requires you to rev it almost to the end of the red line to get its full potential. I'm not trying to sound like a smart ass or put you guys down at all i just want to know how you came across that theory?
see i am at a cross roads, i financially have the money for either one of the cars (used of course ) maybe like a 2013 or 2015 model, but i just think yes the BMW M6 is nice and interior is nice etc. etc., but i personally think it wouldn't turn heads the way a GTR would, and also will there are a dime a dozen BMWs on the road you don't see GTRs as much...so i think i should go for a gtr, any input y'all?
All that being said, I completely agree. The dash in the GTR works wonders, no doubt about it. I'm a Gran Turismo fan, and I like it that way. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate the GTR, I just can't wrap my head around what it's supposed to be, and it does not speak to me. I want cars with personality, heck I even love my better halfs Smart Fourtow, just because it's so different and you almost feel like giving it a name. Get me?
I know being at a mile above sea level there is going to be a good decrease in power, but at 1500-2000 ft above sea level I hit 60 in 5.2 in my 350z. It would make a big difference if you guys would launch at the RPM where the car makes the most torque.
