Why doesn't MotorTrend do data overlay on Pobst's runs? You guys have the telemetry from the vbox system you use. It would be so nice to see what kind of apex speeds and straightline speeds Pobst is getting with all these cars.

...there`s that raised rear spoiler I would not be without on the high-speed corners...the one on my car makes high speed driving feel so secure in my tail-happy sport sedan

You are right. When Carlos Lago does the review for the Cayman S, he mentions that the only options he would choose is to pick whichever transmission you'd like (manual or PDK) and the sports exhaust. The rest is history. I obviously think choosing the PDK is a no brainer.

I went to a Porsche dealership dressed neat casual after taking an exam for dental school, and two guys were practically fighting to be my salesman. I told them I was just looking, and they let me test drive this Cayman S with PDK.

It didn't. Motortrend has released 3 comparison videos earlier this year. The Continental Speed beat the Vanquish, the SLS Black beat the Viper, and the R8 V10 beat the GTR.

Aww... I was going to watch them all back-to-back, oh well, AWESOME content (that's an understatement), Randy really makes it easy to understand Everything that's going on with and in the vehicle short of me driving it myself of course, but he's so detailed! (That's a good thing!)

But what are the options? I see PDK, but does it have PASM suspension, does it have the sports chrono pack? Makes a difference in performance, unlike say yellow seat belts.

the stig (michael schumacher) is a professional F1 racing driver and probably the best driver in the world in overall category. The stig is determined to get the fastest time possible with the car he drives. he doesn't need to tell us about the car considering the hosts of top gear will do that.

Manual, PASM, PTV, sport chrono, PCM navigation, xenon lights, window wiper - all you need. Stuff you don't really need - sports sound exhaust, Bose speakers. When I spec a Cayman S I get about £57,000.....but bear in mind you can get decent used 911 997s for £39,000 to £50,000.....other than lack of bootspace I'd go 997.

Having a base that model you can add options is a great idea. (The only issue is the Porsche is well known for charging some batshit crazy prices for some/many options, taking an "affordable" sports car into the "high end" range quickly with only a few options.) Regardless, great car. I would rather have a Cayman S over a 911 as it looks to be a genuinely fun car to drive - which is the whole point of this competition.

Randy, Just me, or do you feel that the Cayman S is able to punch well above what its weight class would suggest? Only 0.45s behind the F-Type (which has +170HP). Only 0.55s behind the Vanquish (which has +240HP). Only 0.74s behind the M6 (which has +235HP). These three mentioned are obviously a lot heavier, but it's interesting to see. Seems like you were able to get 99-100% of what the Cayman S could offer, whereas you couldn't with many of the heavier cars.

Randy Pobst is one of the best drivers with a tone of experience. If anybody can tell us how a car behaves it's him. Michael Schumacher is not Stig. That was just a ploy. And it's the whole point of this program for the test driver to tell us a bit about the cars and how they behave on the course.

Well they are a bit of a handful but they get the job done when you get used to them. Can be had for around $20k if you look hard enough. Right out of the box they are pretty capable. I had a 2002. Loved that car.

Good point. The Cayman S (as tested) at $100K vs. the 911 (as tested) at $151K. You get a lot more car in the 911. Both great cars, just not a huge fan of AWD cars like you get in the tested 4S. Then again it seems Porsche has come a long way in perfecting the system. Regardless, the 4S was named 2013 best driver's car and clearly the experts that have driven and tested both cars know far more than I do.

I think that this is why the Cayman works so well: it's a car that a person could conceivably drive at 8/10ths on the street, and not get into TOO much trouble or danger. A Dodge Viper etc. is effectively useless at such, as any time you floor it in a residential area, you had best have your lawyer's number handy.

it's E63 AMG 550 HP dude. It's a race car with a big trunk space that's all. But yah I admit, Cayman S time was bit slower than a lot of cars on here like the M6.

I have a feeling the porsche is going to win. They just make the most accurate spot on drivers cars. The Aston Martin isn't, the Mercedes isn't (no matter how awesome) the viper is, but it's too punishing haha. Of the 4 so far, porsche has it in the bag.
