abtl.co/4asc/?i... The 2014 RAM ProMaster is the new Cargo Van from Chrysler. The ProMaster is a great vehicle for the business owner: it carries a hefty load, is surprisingly easy to drive, gets good fuel economy, and should be able to stand up to daily work duties. European style cargo vans are making their way across the Atlantic as evident by the Ford Transit Connect, Nissan NV, and Mercedes Sprinter. The RAM ProMaster is based on a Fiat Ducato and carries a base price of $31,520.
If you bought one of these in Europe it would come with a 4-cylinder engine, but here in the States the ProMaster is equipped with Chrysler's Pentastar 3.6 liter V-6 that makes 280 horsepower and 250 lb-ft. of torque. That's enough to haul 44 lbs. of cargo or tow 5100 lbs. A diesel engine is on the horizon though.
The ProMaster is massive inside with 6'4" head room, 6" wide, and a huge load floor. The secret to getting this much cargo space is the fact that the RAM ProMaster 2500 is FWD meaning there no prop shaft or rear differential.

i own a 2500 high roof 3.6l v6 promaster and i love it. i average 13 mpg in the city and on the highway im averaging 22mpg. i own a/c company so they are loaded down with everything a regular service van has, freon, capacitors, motors ect. i usually carry around 2000lbs worth of stuff all day. i have loaded 2300lbs of additional weight on top of the 2k i already have had on the truck to bring my total weight to around 4400lbs or so. the truck drives great even fully loaded. Ive never owned a truck that has such a tight turning radius before i mean i can make a u turn without having to backup 2 times like my old Chevy box truck had to do. there is tons of room inside. i bought the promaster after looking at the new ford transit because the transit walls tapper in at the top and the promaster has straight walls all the way to the top. i have over 45k miles on it now. i get complements all the time from my customers on how big this truck is compared to my old v8 Chevy box truck. the a/c freezes me out. what the video leaves out is the gas tank under the floorboard of the driver seat, the battery compartment is directly under your feet and the muffler is under the passanger floorboard. runs quiet and is a pleasure to drive and gets around the city with ease. the promaster did take some time to get use to on parking because it is a long long van.

Do you still love your Promaster? Which wheel base and length do you have? what size ladders do you carry on the rack? How fast do you drive on the highway while getting 22mpg? I know it's a lot of questions but, I also do HVAC and I am planning for the next Van/box truck.

Good review! I recently purchased a RAM Promaster hi top 2500 van (2016) and average 18 mpg in city and over 20.0 on the road. Slowly converting it to a camper. I believe that the FordTransit is more comfortable to drive, but I really like this Promaster. It's an Italian design so a bit different than other vans. But I love the front-wheel drive and the large windows in front that will be great touring the National Parks. The 139 inch wheel base is handy for a normal parking spot so it can be used as a daily car as well as a camper. Overall, it's a fun vehicle to drive. I find that loading the van front and back actually gives it more stability and softer drive. The extra width definitely appeals to the camper wannabe...and best of all, it's about $5000 less than the Ford Transit. When I tried to buy a Ford, I was put off by the lack of knowledge and interest in selling their vans. Either way, both are good camping vans. The extra height, width, and front wheel drive gives the nod to RAM Promaster in my opinion.

i own a 2500 hi top, i use it to carry heavy musical equipment (sound system for concerts) never had a problem with it, behind the wheels feels like a car, sharp turns like a compact car, drove from NY to Florida a few times and is very confortable, best of all cost me $5000 less than Ford Transit and $10,000 less than Mercedes Benz sprinter and with a lot more options, for example dual sliding doors not available with Ford and 2 passenger bench seat

I chose the promaster because it's has more space and a good looking van over the competition and it comes with cab lights

The standard seat height adjustment in a kenworth truck is the same.amd I love how Americans think a European vehicle is sub standard to a us one .when the rest of the world thinks us vehicles are rubbish.

So here we are 9 months later and how is ProMaster doing? Apparently FCA called this one correctly as ProMaster is already outselling Sprinter by a good margin. Ford will hold onto the bulk of the market, but it looks like the ProMaster is finding its share of buyers. The diesels are just starting to arrive at the dealerships so it is too soon to say how those will go over. I do wonder if FCA will eventually offer AWD on these as they do in Europe. It could be a good selling point. As it is in Europe the ProMaster is quickly becoming an RV conversion favorite due to its large interior volume and low load floor. I personally know two people currently converting these to van-campers. The 6+ feet between the walls means you can install a bed crosswise in the back rather than having to have it run fore-aft so the Promaster is a natural for that type of application.

What FWD pickup did Chrysler make? The Rampage? Sigh.... Even when they were current, who actually LOADED one? It was a 2200# truckette, with about 1000# of payload capacity, The loaded winter performance of a Lifestyle vehicle like that, should have zero room in a review of an obvious work van. That's like comparing apples to wheelbarrows. A better comparison would be to any FWD minivan made anywhere. But here's the thing. Has anyone ever heard people actually complain about winter traction in a minivan with a load in it? No. Loaded winter traction will be a non-issue. Durability of a European designed vehicle should be the only real question on our not-so-smooth roads. Other than that, I really like the review!

I had a 2014 ram pro master 2500 high top. Nothing but problems always breaking down from door handles to hinges to serious engine problems and radiator leaks. MANY MANY ELECTIRCAL PROBLEMS. Parts are VERY EXPENSIVE and there are no after market parts so you are forced to go to the dealer. Very unreliable work truck. Stay away. I finally traded it in and bought a Nissan NV 2500 with a V-8 engine.

I just hate how a fuel efficient cargo van in europe, becomes a V-6 gas guzzler here. Sure they have a diesel option, but again it is a guzzling diesel not the fuel-efficient diesel they get, and we get the option of paying an extra $6000 for it, thereby virtually negating the fuel savings. When will North America join the rest of the industrialized world?
@chudykGT
@chudykGT 9 лет назад
theknightlynews I don't see how a 4 cylinder would be able to drive with loads on the north American highway and freeway system. My v6 f150 struggles now. I don't see how the same engine in a tall non aerodynamic Transit will perform. If it was a city only courier, perhaps the 4 banger would be viable. And yes, we are always deprived of the oil burner in north America. it sucks, and when we do get one, its usually not the same as available in Europe.

Ugly? American really have no taste. That said, what surprises me is all the complaints about front-wheel drive, without even testing loadcapacities! How would you explain that these vans run ahead in Europe's van sales, if you can't even load them? Ugh, this is stupid.
@AdmiralRustyShackleford
@AdmiralRustyShackleford 10 лет назад
we have heavier loads here in america, plus when you load a fwd it'll lift the front end making it impossible to drive in the snow
@wopmf4345FxFDxdGaa20
@wopmf4345FxFDxdGaa20 9 лет назад
snakesonaplane2 Well that impossible to drive in snow is not true. These vans are commonly used in north Europe, northern side of the arctic circle, where is snow on the ground over 180 days a year. And without any problems with snow. I think you are a little prejudiced. Saying FWD van is garbage in snow. Have you ever driven this size FWD van in snow? Sure it's not a 4x4, but it is not considerably worse than RWD. Especially with low load, it is much better than RWD van in snow. It is also the most common motorhome chassis in europe, and they drive them at winter to ski resorts without any problems. But every person who is looking for a van should know how they are going to use it. If you know that you will drive it absolutely fully loaded 99% of the time in the snow, don't buy FWD van, buy 4x4 or RWD van instead. But if you drive most of your drives moderately loaded, the FWD is great in the snow. I agree this ram version with totally black dodge grille is a little funny looking. The european version IMHO looks a little better, with more colorful bumper and fiat grille. :).
@1guyin10
@1guyin10 9 лет назад
snakesonaplane2 Why do you think we have heavier loads? If you load it properly, so that it is balanced, you will have no problem with traction. Most of the load floor is ahead of the rear axle so weight is carried by both. The ProMaster is actually rated for a higher load capacity than the competition because its FWD layout makes it lighter. Since less weight is used by the van itself you have more available for cargo for a given GVWR. My only concern is whether the transmission they put in it will hold up. Other than that it has a lot going for it.

Sooo instead of making one mold you want them to make say 7 different colored bumpers so it can match the color of the vehicle. Which means the cost of the vehicle will go up. No thanks.
