The first flight of Bristol Scout 1264 by its builders - in this case David Bremner, at Bicester. 1264 was originally flown by his grandfather 99 years ago, and the stick, rudder bar and magneto are the originals from his grandfather's machine. See www.bristolscout.wordpress.com and @BristolScout and @ScoutBuilder

My Grandfather used to repair these (airframe fitter) in France 1917/18. He taught me how to plane spruce 12 feet long. He is long gone, as are many , many brave young men. Beautiful flying Sir!

What a beauty ! And what a lovely flying field ! At the beginning of the video I was wondering about the 'rust stains' marring the fuselage below the struts and along the 'seam'. After landing I noticed the fresh, windswept oil stains on the struts (3:57) and spattering on upper fuselage in front of pilot. So: not rust - used engine oil. Am I right ? Now I'm going looking for build videos - down the rabbit hole we go ...

I have to ask the question. Why does the fuselage & undercarriage look so second hand with rusty colored marks all over them. I'd have thought if it had been re-built by this David Bremner, he at least would have made the effort to properly restore the aircraft.
@DavidSBremner
@DavidSBremner 4 года назад
The aircraft is essentially new, except for the stick, rudder bar and magneto that my Grandad brought back with him in 1916 after he flew it. The staining is caused by the original 1917 rotary engine that throws out 5lt/hr of castor oil. In fact this machine is the closest representation of what a WWI aircraft would actually have looked like.
@myredute
@myredute 4 года назад
@@DavidSBremner OK....asked & answered. You landed it beautifully in fact...congratulations!
@DavidSBremner
@DavidSBremner 4 года назад
The only original parts are the stick, rudder bar and magneto. Everything else was new when that video was shot. The engine throws out 5lt/hr castor oil, and it looks exactly like the original. All WWI aircraft were this dirty.
