2015-2022 Ford Edge 3rd Brake Light Replacement 

Thank you!! Well explained and went just as you showed. The upward pressure to release the spoiler from the tailgate was more than I expected but it finally gave. A couple of comments to help others: 1) 13mm 12-point deep socket is a must, a 9/16 6-point socket may work but is likely to slip on the plastic cover on the nuts (did in my case, and I ended up going and buying the 13mm). I'd also recommend an extension. 2) where you cut off the nuts, I used a small drill bit next to the nut and held the head of the bolt from spinning on the plastic (poor Ford design metal in plastic). 3) have extra nuts on hand for when you drop one into the tailgate (yes I did). Again, thank you for putting this video together, I was down to 2 LEDs, and when I got the old one out the lens fell off. For reference, I was working on a 2015 Edge SEL with 82k miles and a power liftgate.

Why the hell they make it so hard to replace. I feel like the older cars are easier which should be the opposite smh

Thank you best video out there for this fix. I have a tip. I stood on the rear tire when I was removing the spoiler. it came up easier and the clips came out better as I picked up from the (back) of it. So you have to have the door latch closed completely to do this. Also run the screws in the new light in your hand 1st before installing 😁

Man, that was a bit of a procedure, eh? The x4 clips & 2-way tape were the toughest part of this for sure. Read some of the other comments which instructed to just yank. Got some good leverage with one foot on a step ladder and the other on the rear tire with the gate closed. Made some terrible noises, but at the end of the job (just under 2 hrs fighting this), nothing at all broken. Win in my books. Thanks for the great video!

Nice video. Gotta replace mine in my 2017 Edge Titanium. Seems to me as many of these that have gone bad this should be a safety recall. I didn’t even know mine was bad till a friend told me, have no idea if it even worked after i bought it certified used in 2020 as I’m the one always driving it and never see the back. W717415-S450B plastic nut has an actual flanged nut molded inside of it. Anyone know the size of that nut? I stripped a couple and figure you really don't need the actual ford part especially for the 2 that are hidden in the panel.

Big help with this. The lens cover fell off the one on our 15’ sport and it was driving me nuts.

What a pain! Thanks for showing all the fasteners. I had all the nuts off but the spoiler still felt like it was on there so dang solid, I thought something was going to break while trying to pull it up. Those plastic clips have a lot of holding power. It sure was a lot of horsing around just to replace a faulty light. The worst part is, I see a lot of them out on the road with failing, or totally failed center brake lamps.

What did you use to cut them plastic nuts

What kind of 2 sided tape did you use? Ford told me 3m 06382 which is very thin, not like the OEM thicker felt tape.

My issue is I lost the plastic cover over the light assembly. I can't seem to find just the lens cover. Anyone have any guidance on this?

Getting ready to replace mine. Did you replace the tape you scraped off? What type of tape is it, like thin double sided clear tape? Or did you just ignore it during reassembly. Probably not needed.

How can you test the light prior to removal just to check and make sure it's not just the connection? honestly mine worked until a dash cam was installed and the extra wire was shoved into that area and now it no longer works. Everything is still plugged in but still no brake light.

What!!!!!! I just did it on my esgeb2017 titanium I got the light from the junk yard $25 loool but that’s a pain in the aaaa to remove that because it has 3 clips hidden that’s the bad thing.

I'm sorry .... but in my opinion not such a great instructional video .... A lot left out and vague...

Ford tried to charge me $1,200 to replace this. The guy said they would have to break it to replace it. I guess he thought I'm an idiot to believe him.

This video is not good dude don't show how to remove stupid spoilers end up breaking shit because dude never explains their tabs you can't see and hard to see where they at next time you do a video be more detailed.

Dude! You did not actually show how you removed the spoiler! How the hell did you get to the other clips that cannot be seen?!
