I think I've had it with auto critics after seeing this. Either the Q50 is too sporty or too luxurious. No seriously, please make your minds up. As a potential buyer, it really confuses me as to why I shouldn't buy this car, or what makes this worse than its preceding G37. It's still got the V6, 7 speed, GT-R derived AWD, and the Infiniti looks & quality. I am just going to make the assumption that the Q50 is a G37 with slightly more luxury and tech appointed to it. There, I did it. I did what car reviewers are apparently struggling so much to say. They were making similar accusations against the 2013+ Altimas as compared to their predecessors. You know what? My parents have owned one for three years now and no problems at all. In fact, I think it's been our lowest-maintenance car so far. My family also owns a G37 and don't get me wrong, it's a terrific car. But to say the Q50 is as bad as critics are saying it is compared to the G is a complete exaggeration. I noticed a lot of outdated interior and exterior styles and technologies were vastly improved. I love the touch screen at the bottom too; anyone who thinks its tricky or tough to use obviously isn't even familiar with how to use their own smartphone interface. Don't listen to them, I'm telling you. The Q50 is still carrying the Infiniti torch proudly. Even if it isn't as revolutionary as a market entrance as the G37 was before, it's still a great car.
Thanks bro..I own a 2010 G37 with 97,250 miles on her and she still purrs like a kitten...I just can't make the jump to spending 30 grand for a car with less horsepower and heavier with no rack and pion steering..The Q50 3.0 luxe is a pig and the red sport is $15,000 over priced..
TL owner. Solid vehicle. Smooth ride. Practically maintenance free.. With The right amount of luxury.. What more do you need in a car. My experience with Honda /Acura has always been top notch.
15 years ago I would have said the Acura Hands down, but since those days the Acura/Honda cars have taken a nose dive in looks and aren't pulling those trophies anymore. I like the looks of the Infiniti and would easily choose that car over the TLX any day of the week. Until Honda changes up its styling again, I wont waste my time on them, especially if I am going to spend 40k plus on a car!
Is styling really that important? Does every car have to scream "look at me"? Interesting truth is, the styling of the Acura will age A LOT more gracefully than the Infiniti. In fact the Infiniti is already starting to look a bit dated (in my opinion).
Logan L is styling important....YES!!! are you serious? If you don't care go get a box van and drive that every day, it gets you from point A to B as either of these two cars does! Idiot comment seriously.
Acc0rd79 you've missed my point and blown it out of proportion. Is styling more important than engineering quality, ability, and luxury? Compare the Dodge Dart to the Civic Si. The Dart is all styling while the Civic is everything else and more. What I'm saying is, is it really such a problem to drive a car that's clean and simple? Seems like only people with something to prove would say "yes". Also the more creases and lines a car has, the more it will age horribly. Here's a fantastic example ( photos4.automanager.com/011776/e5672a2c3f605d46b740bfafa023be9d/bb0ce018b9_640.jpg)
Logan L styling still wins, ill buy what looks good if im going to spend 40k plus like these cars. I want to love driving my cars, not be like uggh here we go, at least it gets me from A to B, might as well get a Kia at that point.
Yes i totally agree. You can buy an ILX and be paying for a more stylish civic. Acura needs to step up their game in design both interior and exterior. When I enter an Acura i feel like I'm in a Honda with leather seats. With Infiniti (while not as luxurious as BMW, MBZ) i feel as if I'm in a powerful luxury sedan. The Q50 styling is aggressive yet elegant. Acura is barely starting to put wood trims in the interior and LED lights on their tail-lights. All around i think the Q50 is a better car for your money even at the base model. I am hoping to buy a Q50 in the summer, in the meantime everyone should go test drive one before they say shit.
i have aTLX 3.5 base model, and i have to say i love. no complaints here, i understand thst infinity is just alttile higher end than my acura but to get a 3.7 q50 is about 10k more than my 3.5 and i also get better fuel efficiency. now power wise i can put my acura on sport + with my paddle shifters and OMG i have lots of fun!!!
Of course they're going to like the Acura infotainment system better when it's a fully loaded TLX going up against a completely base Q50 with it's only option being AWD. This Q50 doesn't even have navigation, which is one of my favorite features in my Q50! The TLX even has radar cruise control. Apples to apples guys. What the heck kind of comparison is this? I test drove a '15 TLX V6 right before testing driving my '15 Q50 3.7 Premium RWD with navigation that actually has some options, unlike this stripped down version you tested here.. IMO there was no comparison between the two. There wasn't a single thing I liked better in the TLX versus the Q50 I immediately fell in love with an hour later on my next test drive. 15 months and 30k trouble free miles later... To this day, the more I drive my Q50, the more I love it!! I could not be happier with my choice!
My friend and I own both. I have the tlx. She has the Q50. Best way to make a decision is based on who the audience is: Acura TLX: mpg, road trips on highways, middle to older aged. People who prefer to have a subtle car that doesn't draw too much attention. People would say you get this to upgrade your Accord Infiniti Q50: youthful, sporty, take on twisty mountain roads. People say you are young and want a fun car, but Q50 is very common to where it doesn't have special feeling. Each has cons and pros depending on who is answering.
Acura made a recall on TLX due to transmission problems. The 9 Speed ZF gear box is the only major German part on the TLX. The 8 Speed DCT with torque converter made by Acura in house, is working quite well, though. There is your German engineering in real action. They simply can NOT compete with the Japanese.
Screw Acura and the new TLX, Infiniti Q50 is a way better sports sedan then and then the Acura and the infiniti interior looks way better Wait till the Q50 refresh
***** Have you sat in an Acura before? They have zero technology.. The 2016 MDX i recently sat in had a pretty big center dash.... with big gigantic icons and letters like you would see in a kindergarden class............ Acura has ZERO technology and absolutely NO performance so that's why they are cheap. You pay for what you get. Acura makes cars literally made from point A to B and absolutely NOTHING else. When you do advance in technology and stay with the common norm, your car tends to be more reliable but you cannot price your car high exactly what Acura is doing....... Its beyond amusing how one would consider the cheapest, boring, front wheel drive 'luxury' car brand so highly.... Hahahaha .. i was always told nothing cheap is good....... that applies directly with Acura.. Acura is a car I would buy my daughter because its cheap, does not go too fast, and don't have any problems because they lack technology. Acura is cheap because of these reasons: 1. No tech 2. Navi looks like a kindergarten app on an ipad 3. No power
I like both vehicles, I driven both and i would have to say the TLX has better value as for as what you get for the buck. It also to me drives better. The Q50 is a beast tho, def more sportier. And for those who dont consider Acura a luxuary brand, thats ok but it is more luxuary than the Q50 so go figure. Both are good cars depends on what you want, if you are seriously considering both and you are not just watching this to pass time, test drive both!!!!!
I have one.. Its a great car. I have the rs400. Ill come pick you up in it. We can test some things out nawmsayn!? White knights need to reply or even make your existence known.
I don't really consider acura a luxury brand anymore. They were with the 2004-2008 TL. They make cars with old school tech, same engines, bland styling and they don't even show off the rear exhaust on any models.
They're entry-luxury. What people get when they have a little more money than an Accord costs. But wait! It costs more than 5k more than the Infiniti! which has a proper RWD chassis and isn't based off of an Accord...
Ricky Vang the TLX is front wheel drive in base form. It's based off of the accord, and shares many parts. The Infiniti has zero to do with the Altima.
I like my TLX but to be honest my 2004 Infiniti G35X had the best options of both. Excellent handling in any weather, great acceleration with 300 horsepower, killer looks and style and comfort.
I just Brought a 2015 TLX. It's super comfortable and overall I love it for day to day driving and road trips. But I also kept my 2005 Infiniti G35. My Infiniti G35 has the better response when stepping on the peddle and much smoother transformation. The difference between the two cars is night and day. I have a feeling ill be driving my TLX in sport+ mode alot to make up for the difference in performance.
Lol I like how they compare a base Q50 AWD to a topped out TLX SHaWD with Advance package. Totally different. Why didn't they compare the Acura to the Q50 with sport or premium package? The price would've been around $45-47k. Same as the Acura.
This is a fully loaded Acura TLX SH-AWD.. only 45k. A fully loaded Q50S AWD is over 56k.. Haha.. i just built it. Totally a biased review... comparing the highest model TLX to one of the cheapest Q50..
***** If you are going to compare 0-60 times at least use the same source. Motor Trend has the TLX SH-AWD at 5.9 seconds to hit 60 MPH. (Source: www.motortrend.com/new_cars/04/acura/tlx/) Motor Trend has the Q50 at 5.2 seconds to 60MPH. (Source: www.motortrend.com/new_cars/04/infiniti/q50/) Q50 still wins when you add AWD at 5.3 seconds.
***** Acura TLX fully loaded is $45k. The Q50S fully loaded at $56k that you mentioned is the hybrid model. That will blow the TLX out of the water and is better value. At $45k you can also get a C Class or 3 Series no problem. The Acura is a poor value.
Ray J How is the Acura more sporty if the Infiniti has better steering feel, stiffer suspension, and more power? Sure the TLX has its benefits, but the Infiniti definitely lies closer to the "sport" side of these two cars.
Coraga 1 I’m aware this comment is 3 years old but you’re actually wrong. The AWD system used on the Q50 is perfectly capable of transferring 90% of it’s power to the rear. In fact, it can send 100% to the rear wheels. Sounds to me like you’re just a pissed off Acura owner lol.
The Acura is top in the luxury race in quality, safety, reliable, dependable, comfortable, and performance. Acura do need to up it's styling and horsepower to be able to compete in those categories also. The verdict is Acura provides what is needed to be top of the game, but need minor improvements to really stand out.
Sorry boss, both Infiniti and Lexus have ran several laps front of Acura since 2008. 2008 TLX was a nasty car but 7-8 years later, car looks practically the same, Honda never build upon the 2008 TLX and dont know why
Completely biased. When Infiniti is better than Acura, they said two cars have different approaches. They are trying to find something which the Acura is better than the Infiniti. Yes, you are right. Numb handling (not a sport car approach) and slow (fuel efficiency). The Q50 is better than the Acura in every dimension except MPG. If you like MPG, go get a Prius.
We need a video comparison on reliability, Common/major issues, cost of repair, Resale value ETC? The things that "normal" people deal with. Nowadays all people seem to think about is, "which car is faster". "My car is faster than yours so therefore my car is better". 👈IDIOTS!!
I prefer the new Acura Tlx over an Infiniti Q50 or an Lexus IS. Lexus feels luxury and is very high quality. But it never impressed me with driving fun. Infiniti has great engine, but the ride is harsh and noisy, which makes a long haul punishing. Tlx is more balanced. Plus, when equipped similarly, it is almost 10k cheaper.
Smarie18_ G was just total shit. Q50 is only a little better than the G. It's still shit up to today. You want find a single review on RU-vid where you don't hear the reviewer complain about how shitty the Q50 is when it comes to being comfortable. Also lets not forgot the Q50's Acura wannabe center display screens. Lastly, the hybrid Q50's switch from electric to engine is so intrusive and harsh. Even a Prius can make that transition very smoothly and pretty much unnoticed.
Smarie18_ Most people agree that Q50 drives like shit. But it does look really nice and has above average performance and a lot of features. At the end of the day it's about what you want as an individual.
Going to be a lot of Acura haters commenting. And in my opinion both Infiniti and Acura are tier 2 luxury. Maybe Acura takes a dip into tier 3 but there's no disputing that the TLX is a good all around car. And when looking up reviews of the Q50 many reviewers complain and say it's lost some of its G35 feel and sportiness.
Driving the Q50 was a scary experience for me. Granted, I had the steer-by-wire, but the car felt completely flustered. On the highway, I had to make constant corrections to keep it in its lane. When cornering there was so much body roll, it was a really strange sensation in a sedan (I would expect it in a soft SUV). And the engine felt completely underpowered and sounded like it was wheezing. It was like you really needed to rev it like a Honda/Acura VTEC, but without the punch in power or glorious sounds that a VTEC gives you.
Infiniti's are priced above Lexus or head to head with Lexus so I don't know how are they second tier luxury. 9/10 of Infiniti cars are sporty and rear wheel drive while half of Acura's line up is front wheel drive and every car they make are priced lower than every other class.. Acura is LITERALLY a rebadged Honda because they both are cheap and both offer front wheel drive.
H1mynameisLarry Please get your facts straight. ALL of Acura's cars are offered in FWD and ALL but ONE (the ILX) offers SH-AWD as an optional upgrade. And, to your point, Audi's are built on VW platforms and are based on FWD drivetrains. Does that make them cheap, too?
senorgato70 Here is the difference between Acura and Audi. Audi sport models are twin turbo awd or supercharged. Acura 'Sport' models are non existent. Acura is cheap for a reason. You pay for what you get. The Q50 in this video looks like the base non sport model either .. verse the most expensive Acura TLX....... The most expensive TLX is the one on this video and the most expenisve Q50 is over 55k.... Check the websites... Look at the ugly rims/brakes on this Q50....... you can tell they are comparing the most expensive TLX with the mid trim Q50............ and the Q50 still cost more...... Acura is not cheap for no reason.......
H1mynameisLarry Do you not know the history of Acura? Acura's business model has always been to offer luxury at a value as compared to their direct competition. They will likely be offering more higher-performance models in the coming years to be more inline with the 335i/435i, S4/S5 and C400, but they still likely will never offer cars to compete with the M/AMG/RS set. Just remember, there's a big difference between "cheap" and "inexpensive". Acura's are relatively inexpensive when compared to their direct competition, but they are much more reliable with the exception of Lexus.
I don't know why people dislike the steer by wire from the Q50. I own a Acura Integra, Mistubishi Eclipse GT and a Q50S with steer by wire and the Q50 wins all the way when it comes to steering. I've been in tight corners at 120km/h and it feels awesome. You almost don't move the steering wheel. I've tried both, the mechanical steering Q50 and the steer by wire and it not that much different other than it feels more smooth. The Integra as a reputation of direct steering because of the ratio of the stearing box, but it's nothing compare to the Q50 with steer by wire. Parking with it with the 19" wheels is a joke. You think sometimes that the car is much smaller than it really is because the small turn radius. It's similar to the Integra (maybe smaller radius in fact) and with the Eclipse GT on 18" you can't do a U turn without going in reverse... Yes, you feel a bit less the road from the steering wheel but to be honest, it's not a bad thing in Montreal...
So excited picked my tlx up today and my previous tl had over 265,000 miles on it with no problems and all I did was regular maintenance.. I'm looking forward to the same reliable luxury I expect from Acura..... Thought I might ad my 2009 Acura MDX had 325,000 miles before we traded it for the 2015 MDX
Lexus uses 10 year old engines and has worse fuel economy with the same features as last generation models. All they have is a new shell lol and Acura is the one behind XD get your facts straight kid you don't know anything about cars.
@ krauser Are you stupid? Lexus Brand is miles ahead of Acura and ahead of Infiniti. Lexus dose not reuse engine because Lexus engines are so good they are able to run their engines years longer then the competition. This give Lexus a great track record and consistently gives them the best reliability record then Acura. You don't kno shit about cars. Hey not to mention the V8 ISF, RCF upcoming GSF all kill every Acura model
krauser979 Yep, gotta agree with you there, krauser. Lexus' engines make them almost non-competitive in any segment and their styling is polarizing (though I find the IS the best-looking). They do make great chassis/steering systems, though. I will also give Lexus credit for being a bit more aggressive and adventurous in trying to take market share away from Benz and BMW. Acura will be doing the same over the next few years.
I like the new tlx only with sh awd,as far Acura brand goes they need to go to being a all wheel drive brand fully, cause they to fucking cheap to build rear wheel drive platform. And yeah Buick outsells Acuras now and thats embarrassing in it self. Look at the rlx how could they such horrible flagship sedan even the Kia k900 is rear drive and a better luxury car than the rlx (Damn shame) there's no passion at Acura anymore and there lost as to what do!!
For all the idiots saying the Acura TLX is an Accord, have you even driven both? lol. I'm positive you haven't, because I've owned an Accord Sport and currently own an Acura TLX. The Acura definitely feels like its a class above the Accord...the ride quality, road noise cancellation, interior quality, suspension set up, FWD set up, handling, transmissions, and engines are all better than the Accord. The Acura offers so much for the money, its ridiculous. I bought my Acura TLX 2.4 for the same price as my previous Accord Sport. No car manufacturer offers value like Acura does.
Alex Stafonis I agree. I have a 2014 Acura TL and a v6 accord. On the interstate and accelerating the TL is a different beast. Totally different inside and out with materials. Everybody always says just an Accord. It's funny because the Accord is one of the best cars made ever.
The Q50s AWD makes this my 8th Infiniti. One test drive in the Acura made me return to my roots! The Acura's lights are EXACTLY like the Accord!! Granted, I know Infiniti/Nissan is the same co. but they jump the scale with more power and looks. If you noticed, the test driver called the Acura's interior "Plastic" and that's exactly what it looks like, Cheep! I have been with Infiniti since the beginning, starting with the 1992 Infiniti M30 (ugly now) but Fun in High school. I have NEVER had one problem through the years. Service is excellent. Need a loaner car, no need to even ask, the service advisor asks you. My friends 2014 $50k Acura MDX, you have to schedule an appointment if you need a loner car (if ones available). No doubt, Infiniti may not get all the advertising it should, but once you've driven one, the ad's are unnecessary. I can't wait to see the New Coupe!
It's fucking sad when V8 GMC trucks from the 90's where pulling 20-25 MPG... And here we are 20 years into the future and a V6 from a japanese automaker with 7 and 8 speed transmissions are pulling similar numbers. At what point does it become painfully obvious that automakers and petroleum producers are either owned by the same group or they pre work out what the average engine should be capped at for Fuel economy. IS really the only technological advances they are gonna offer us is more gears(Less transmission durability) and an Ipad mounted in the center console? Then call this "Forward" progress? We are all way to gullible.
Man, the fanboys are funny. I'd personally go with the Infiniti because I prefer the stiffer, sportier approach. Also, I love the design. However, I definitely see the appeal of the Acura and agree that it probably is the better all around package for most drivers. The key word there is MOST. While I don't give two craps about "lane assist" or adaptive cruise control, plenty of other folks love additional convenience and safety features and there is nothing wrong with that. It all comes down to a matter of preference so the only "best" car in the world is the one that's best for you.
WorldCarLovers you are incorrect they were all planing lux brands honda just beat them to the market even mazda was planing a lux brand but canned the idea ..................
After personally driving both cars, I agree with the end verdict. The TLX is the better car, though I do like the Q50's exterior styling better. Neither can touch the new C-Class, though, to be honest.
I would still take the infiniti. I never thought I would say that but the tlx is too old man luxury for me. From a pure driving standpoint which is what you do in automobiles, infiniti is superior to tlx. And yes I have driven both.
I like how there is hate on both cars yet non of you broke people can or will ever afford one. And what’s worst! you’ve never even have gotten inside one, much less driven one.
I'm a Honda fan but definitely Infinite is the winner! Had G35x 2008 it was luxury and now I have Acura TSX and trust me it feels good bad damn Infinite is Infiniti but drinks gas lol
As a older driver, I just bought a TLX. that being said, I actually enjoy the comfort and ride it offers. If you wonder why I do it is because I drive a 1934 ford 3 window coup as a daily driver. I enjoy what they both offer, so some will like some won't, it is not critical either way. drive what you want and just simply enjoy it.
Having owned both cars, the infiniti is much better. Acura driving experience felt so distant. The steering was very weird in that making a sharp turn the steering wheel would feel extremely light until a certain point then stiffen which made making a 90 degree + turn feel very awkward. the acura is an old person reliable car. The inifiniti is much more responsive and the experience is all around better. Glad i switched.
I am hoping Acura will come out with a type s version like they did with the 07/08 tl type s. 2 tone interior with more hp and gun metal wheels and stiffer suspension. Also quad visible exhaust that would be an awesome looking car.
@@BayViewz I thought the same thing too. 355 is too conservative. My only issue with Acura, no matter how innovative they get, they always seem to keep one or two things conservative. For example: the new TL's does Not have full digital cluster and steering wheel position is manually adjusted, not powered like everyone else.
The battle of the cars that nobody wants. They even had to rename the G35/TSX/TL to try and get people to forget what they were. I know these companies are capable of making good cars (I used to have an integra GSR and it's still one of my favorite cars) I just don't know why they won't.
Tried out the q50, is350 fsport, and tlx. The q50 interior is a little too quirky, the ride is unacceptable for a luxury sedan (and I drive a Subaru BRZ on coils), the engine also is a gross drony thing that doesn't really feel as fast as it should. The TLX has a pretty boring transmission but the handling, comfort and ride were fantastic. The Lexus was truly the best however when I optioned it up to the standard of the tlx it was nearly 15k more expensive, at the price of the is350 an s4 seems like the obvious choice. The tlx in black with aero package will be on my driveway this Wednesday :)
+Shuffle3956 in canada the is350 is 65k with awd f sport there was absolutely no wiggle room, the loaded tlx was only 50k on the road. The is350 v6 with awd has a transmission with a slushbox that is absolutely unacceptable not only when compared with the tlx, but even with some much less expensive cvt gearboxes, it's absolutely disgusting which if it was 50k I could deal with but at 65k is a terrible decision. Like I said for the 65k that the Lexus is selling for, there are MUCH better cars like the s4 available. I love Lexus but the new IS 350 prices its self out, but they will sell due to the people that care exclusively on the badge. It's been a month since I took delivery of the tlx and I absolutely love it, my only complaint with the gearbox initially has gone away since it had a software update and after driving my friends brand new is350 and comparing the transmissions back to back i wish I could retract my statement of the Lexus being the better car.
As an Acura owner, I have witnessed the reoccurring transmission issues that plague Acura/Honda vehicles. It would be unfortunate for the TLX to receive high praise, but be plagued with transmission issues. Trust me, Acura dealers or corporate don't care about transmission defects even though it's due to poor engineering.
if you want a smooth, less stiff ride (which evidently the Q50 doesn't provide), get a Toyota Avalon. they're great, quiet rides. but if you want a car that handles the way a car should be, then get the Q50. the best ride ever around curves going at them at 60mph (100kph)
Acura is not a true luxury brand. Half of their lineup offers front wheel drive. True luxury brands don't offer that many front wheel drive cars or price them selves so low with no power.
naveenshanv But Audi S model sport cars are twin turbo with a lot of HP. What Acura got? The FWD and the AWD have same hp? or is it 10hp difference? HAHAHAHA
Hahahahaha an altima has that stuff... Acura is cheap for a reason.. You get what you pay for.. Where your all around view camera at? Big engine? How much hp you got? 250? Lmao! If you think a cheap Acura is luxurious you dont know what luxurious is.....
H1mynameisLarry same with Nissan. But u get cloth seat in basic. Acura doesn't have that n sunroof all options r standard. But to make my point these aren't true luxury brands there entry level luxury. There's a difference.
I bought the new TLX and have zero regrets. I mostly agree with these guys the TLX is overall a better package. Ive driven both and granted the Q50 has a little more power but the way the TLX delivers the power when it hits that sweet sounding vtec is utterly insane and it handles like a dream on top of that. Acura made a come back with this one. They sold well over 19,000 units of the TLX since its debut in late August while their best selling MDX sold 66000 in an entire year(And if I'm not mistaken it is the best selling in its class which makes the TLXs numbers even more impressive). Cant wait to get me an NSX in a few years when I can get one used for a little cheaper. Honda/Acura is BACK!!! :D
***** Thanks! I bought the standard FWD V6 version which is faster IMO than the AWD(which is 300+ lbs heavier) which is why I bought it. I figured the loss in handling is made up in the gain in speed. Im not going to be carving corners on a track in my TLX but a little extra oomph is nice when merging on the freeway or just a little light to light race with a WRX(I won :) ). For what it is it holds its own in the handling department tho with the PAWS system. The competitors to me are more the Mercedes CLA250 and Audi A3. All in the same price range and all front wheel drive. I did cross shop an IS 350 and Q50 too but in the end the TLX really is hard to beat. Try cross shopping all those car yourself and you'll see what I mean. Its a really tough choice to make in the entry level luxury segment.
How did you get a 2015 TLX with heated steering wheel? I have tried doing lots of research and I can't find any with heated steering wheel and lots of reviews online are talking about how they don't offer heated steering wheel? I am confused.
I'm responding to your comment 4 years later but I guess it's never too late. The one featured in the video is a Canadian spec TLX. Technology Package and up you get heated steering wheel in the 2015-2020 TLX in Canada
Logan L totally agree. Infiniti, Bmw, Lexus, Audi and Mercedes are in the same elite class. Acura has never been considered nor have they wanted to brand luxury vehicles. Acuras image is the more affordable option in the sense of marketeering among other predecessors.
Juan Ceja The Infiniti is more quieter on the road. All Acura I drove in are loud. I can't enjoy my music. I have the 2012 Infiniti M 37. And it's better than all the Acura my family owns.
khmerbraveheart somehow, I don't believe you... www.reactiongifs.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/I-dont-believe-you.gif "The cabin of the TLX is amazingly quiet. Wind noise doesn't become noticeable until over 100 mph, and road noise is hushed. The TLX uses active noise cancellation as well as conventional tricks, including expanding-foam insulation in the body. The optional ELS sound system lacks punchy bass response, but sounds fantastic with excellent imaging and beautifully crisp treble." www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/news/a6338/2015-acura-tlx-first-drive-review/
I have driven both and I have to say the Infiniti Q50 is much more fun to drive. Sorry, if you want a comfort ride, get a Lexus ES (not the IS) and maybe an SUV. Sport segment means combination of some luxurious features and materials and sporty enough to do some wheel spins and fun steering. The Q50 deliveries that.
I own a Q50 myself and honestly speaking, I love the car. It's quick, responsive and very fun to drive as a teen like myself. I have respect for both these guys for delivering fair opinions, but once that guy in the TLX said "The TLX feels more grown up than the Q50", I automatically lost respect. Disliked.
Luxury cars are personal to everyone's taste. I test drove the Acura Tlx, but now leasing the Q50. Both are great cars, but I personally like the drive on Q50 smooth and better handling. I like the look of Q50, but that is me. My Q50 comes with Premium package and a ton of technology feature. But the Acura is a great car as well..Remember before you buy any of these cars, test drive and compare them side by side....
Acura is for girls. Front wheel drive, cheap and slow. Acura competes with Buick and Lincoln.. not Lexus or Infiniti.. You see how cheap a fucking Acura is????????? This video shows a fully loaded Acura against one of the cheapest base Q50......... Hahaha
H1mynameisLarry infiniti is overpriced garbage buddy. Owned 2 of them finally decided to switch to Acura which is more mature for a man to drive. After all Infiniti is just another Nissan
Back2Paradise J You probably owned older models. Infiniti was garbage back then ... Acura is for people who can't afford real luxury cars.. you do know Acura is the cheapest luxury brand right? LOL! did you also know you have a front wheel drive car? just like a corolla or civic? AHAHAHAHA
The only thing holding the tlx back is a more interestingly designed interior, some sportier steering, and some tailpipes. As for the Infiniti I think it's well off, except those ugly tail lights
The transmission on the TLX is not unrefined. These guys are clearly biased. I really dislike when the reviewer provides an opinion without substance. The big guy said the Acura TLX is boring. WHAT? Where did that come from. Decent review
Im dissapointed somewhat in acuras new products but continue to love them... acura ftw infinitis will just break down and have everything in the interior look dirty and grimy and cheap after 1 year
Acura is more grown up?... Infiniti is more focused on the older, mature generation who can afford it. When you can find prices around the same from both these cars, the Q50s with the better front bumper is the way to go. You spend around the same for these cars, i'd just shell out a little more for the Infiniti, put a Stillen Supercharger, and call it a day. That's just my angle on it
I drove the drive by wire Q50s. Transmission was terrible in Eco and Standard setting. I find this car does not have enough torque. Perhaps hybrid version is better. In sport mode, it was still lack luster under 4000rpm. Steering 'effort' in was better in 'light', or standard..but, verging on ridiculous in heavy when trying to turn in a parking lot. Steering response was better in quick, but unnatural feeling and vague road feel. Unsettling car for me to drive. I purchased the Audi S4 and truely there was no comparison. The torque is instant in the S4 and in comfort mode, I find the steering numb, but smoothe. Enjoy your Q50s, but the sales speak volumes and every review has the same concerns I did. I drove the Q50 for 2 hours and was happy to give it back
Totally agree with you. I've only owned Subaru and Honda products. I wanted a sport sedan and love the look of the new Q50. I do months of research, watch every review and then of course drive the product for several hours on multiple occasions. My good friend for 20 years is a mechanic only works on german cars. He suggested the S4, not the A4 as he sees a lot of problems with the turbo 4. He told me to stay clear of Mercedes as they are generally 20-30% more expensive for a comparable part than Porsche. I just can't get over the interior on the bmw and although I respect the M3 and 335, just have no desire to own one. I found the S4 engine is underated. It pulls much harder than 333hp and 325ftlb ot torque. Dyno tests show the engine stock is closer to the 385hp and similar torque. Steering is vague, but still refined and smooth. Do you also find the back seating position of the Q50 strange?
I think Infiniti will have to go back and fix the steering feel and maybe rejig the back seats. I originally had the steering in the heaviest setting from the dealership and thought there was something wrong I'm 6'0, 220lbs and I found the steering so heavy in the parking lot, I thought it was broken. After playing with all the settings, I found some middle ground. I found the ride jittery and missing the mark between luxury and sport. But, as I stated this was not the hybrid. Enjoy your ride, steering aside it is a gorgeous looking car.
As with any review the verdict is based on the journalists' opinions. Both cars have their strengths and weaknesses. They feel that the Acura is the the better choice for an entry-level luxury/sporty sedan. Personally, I think Acura has went a bit too soft. I suppose they're designing their products to meet the needs of their aging loyalist from heyday idk...
If you go back and listen to the video they do mention if the Q50 had the sport package (steer by wire) it would've made the steering and ride quality worse. Other than that the Q50 was only missing the tech package, which was also mentioned to be similar to the TLX, but cost thousands more in the Q50.
It's true. The two cars we had were not similarly equipped. But, you'll notice we did our best to compare elements that stay the same despite the trim difference. The engine, transmission, interior ergonomics, fuel economy and passenger space wouldn't change if we had a better Q50 (not including the hybrid). So it's still V6 vs V6, AWD vs AWD. Having the direct adaptive steering in the Infiniti would likely have made the choice even easier, as it is apparently even more numb than the TLX's steering. Even with an upgraded S model, the Q50 gets sport upgrades, keeping the sports car feeling we talk about the same while compromising on the luxury side of things. When looking at price, Sami mentions in the video that we compared a fully loaded Q50 against a fully loaded TLX to see which includes more features for less. Unfortunately it's not always possible for us to get the exact right cars, because automakers choose the vehicles on the media fleet. So we make the best of it.
In this case, a full-loaded Q50 would have been to its detriment, primarily on steering feel and price. The final verdict was based on fair factors of comparison, at the end of the day.
***** That's just ridiculous. You can't compare system on a fighter jet to one in a car. Fighter jets don't rely on friction (from the road) to provide feel to the driver and to help guide its direction. And it's not a problem of responsiveness. It's a matter of the steering feeling completely disconnected from the car. And that's a pretty unanimous opinion from almost anyone whose driven the car. I don't know what you drove prior to your Q50S, but I drive an S5 and before that I had a 350Z. At the time that I test drove the Q, I also test drove the new C-Class, the 428 and 435, the IS350 and GS350, Audi A6, the 2.4L and 3.5L TLXs, and even the CLA 250. When I got out of the Q, my very first comment was, "that was just outright scary".
***** It's has nothing to do with something "being different" and the accompanying fear of such. It has everything to do with being in control of a car, not just for the fun of it, but for the safety of it. Maybe you and I..or I should say, may you and the rest of the automotive world...have very different expectations of how steering should feel, and that's fair enough. But, all I will say is, no thanks.
My brother has an Acura TLX SH-AWD V6 and it's lowered and has a tune and an intake and it's pretty fucking fast. My Aunt has a Q50 and it's also decently fast but the way you feel in the TLX. The mocha brown leather seats mmm. It's just so nice and sleek and welcoming but the Q50's interior is just kind of plain and normal
What's your point? The Q50 has lost every comparison test against those competitors you mentioned (excluding XE). Now you can add the "near luxury" TLX to the list of cars that beat the "luxury sport sedan" Q50.
Agreed the Infiniti needs to go back to the drawing board with the Q50. But styling wise we all can agree that Acura needs a new styling language. Hopefully the new NSX will kick it all off.
You're completely wrong The infinity Q50 has one some comparison test but infiniti did rush the Q50 so I'm hoping they fix all the mistakes with the refresh and I'm really hoping they take their time engineering the next Gen Q60 coupe to be the best in class sports Luxury coupe
I don't get it... The whole time they're talking about how the q50 is "not as luxurious" and "too stiff" for a luxury sports sedan. Then, at the very end, they say the TLX is the better luxury sedan. They're BOTH luxury SPORT sedans, and anybody in the market for one will want better handling and a more powerful car. Which the q50 is hands down. If I wanted a boring car with better gas milage, I would buy a Camry.
Yes, go for boring. There is enough excitement in this world already. My Q50 has more options than that accurate and a 16 speaker Bose system that is the best I’ve heard in my life, surpassing my BMW M3
I like Infiniti, but I would rather have a fully loaded TLX with the iconic SH-AWD than a somewhat loaded Q50 with just a normal AWD system. Also, Acura is in the same class a Volvo, and Lincoln, not Cadillac, Lexus, and Infiniti. They're one class above.
+Shuffle3956 Tell it to the 50,000 people that purchased the Tlx, and 65,000 that purchased the MDX, the bestselling crossover. I love how u think cars are pieces of shit, just because they don't have your favorite drivetrain. You're one of the dumb uneducated people that make this world so shitty.
Acura's place is right in between generic affordable cars and luxury cars. Their cars are priced as such for what they come with as well. In the end, you gotta know that you get what you pay for in any brand. Acura was never based their cars rwd, but they now have the best, far more complex awd system which they deserve and need to get paid more if you get it; which will make the msrp of their cars to shoot up to par with luxury brands.
Well done guys, but it could be better if Stephen seats back in the TLX, because there are several complains of lack of space there, in other videos about the TLX.
I have the TLX V6 SH-AWD TECH, transmission is awful, car has vibration/shaking issues at highway speed, which is becoming a huge problem with this model, lots of people having this issue and Acura doing nothing about it. First time I have been disappointed in an Acura. DO NOT BUY ONE check the AcuraZine reviews from real owners.
