My dad purchased a 2014 q50 in November of 2013. 8 years later car still runs strong at 114,000 miles. He's very proud to own a car from Japan. Coming from a man who had American cars his entire life!
Why do people still call some cars American cars there hasn't been an American car since God only knows when as a matter of fact the first japanese car I ever owed was built in Tennessee
I love my 2021 Q50 Redsport 400. It’s my second Q50. Had a 2018 before this one. You either love these cars or you don’t. Only those who owned/own one will understand
You got that right, i have a 2018 q50 redsport which is the 3rd infiniti car that i have owned.. never a wrench on any of them other than tires, brakes and normal wear and tear... some people just dont understand the difference between a nissan and infiniti which a huge difference.. u cant argue with 400 horsepower in the red sport....
My dad has a 2014 Q50S Hybrid with 150k+ miles. Never a single problem; perfect. Infinitis are much better than nissans.... two brothers aren't the same because they have the same parents.
My car has real-time adaptive "nav systems": My eyes, ears, arms and legs. These devices have been continually updated and used since the 1960s. They DO make noise once in a while, But they don't throw up any codes so far. 😂
I have a 2015 Q50 with 47,000 miles on it, it's a great car, still in perfect condition. It's fast, fun, nice. Gas milage isn't bad. Not a single scratch. I get compliments all the time.
That's nice to here,my first impression on seeing some post is that Nissan is questionable. I've personally never had a problem with cars made in Japan, that were maintained properly. ZERO PROBLEMS. Even now my 40 yr old Suzuki 750, runs flawless.
I bought a 2019 Infinity Q50S with 21,000 miles. It now has 83,000 and has had nothing done to it except regular Maintenace, and it is still running strong. I LOVE that car.
2000 Infiniti Q45 was one of the greatest cars they had. I still have mines with 320,433 miles in it still strong, Fx35 Fx45 G35 where all flawless vehicles. Todays Nissan and Infiniti are just terrible
What's crazy is my mom has had to put less money into her '07 Infiniti M35 having it for 4 years than I've had to put into my '09 Toyota Camry in 14 months. Those Infiniti's with the RWD platform and transmissions are excellent cars if you take care of them.
thats one of my dream cars i was born in 99 when i grew up all the modern nissans around me were crap and i never batted an eye to them, then i looked into 350zs and old sylvias and i love them now ive been looking to get a Z rwd manual japanese car is cool to me
I have a 2003 Infinity G35 4-door sedan, one of the first originals sold off the Japanese assembly line in 2002. Yes, I've had to replace the radiator and AC compressor, but they were all under dealership warranty, and then of course some other maintenance items. But... this puppy's engine still purrs like a kitten and when I ask it, it still hugs the road. The best thing, however, is that I have not had a car payment in 13 years.
I bought my wife's first car (2007 hyundai accent) for $2000CAD in 2016, it had 105,000 miles or so. We still have it now in 2021 going into 2022, maybe we put $500-$600 into it for repairs since and about only 30,000 miles. But nonetheless, one of the best deals one could get. Great little runner, no engine light and no issues. With the shortage of vehicles we could probably sell it and get about $1400-$1600 for it, and maybe we will because wife recently got a 2017 tucson and Im driving her car and Im thinking of getting a corolla hatchback.
My q50 was purchased new. I think out the door I paid 56k, 3 years later it was worth 19k and dropping. Fully agree with Scotty in car not holding its resale value. The one in the video here I think held up much better than mine. 3 years later and 50k I had a squealing ac compressor. They had had to do a gap adjustment (whatever that means). Still didn’t fix it. They changed belts and it still didn’t fix it. And inside the quality didn’t hold up well the areas held together by double tape where all coming apart. Blend door actuator broke. Infotainment full of problems. That’s when I ditched it for my current car. To me my q50 just felt like an over priced Altima.
I would have bought a Toyota Camry instead in order to save money on the front end and avoid those problems towards the back end. One would probably still be driving the Camry as one's current car based on Toyota's reputation for reliability.
@@phillipjames453 believe it or not I looked at that car before I got the Infiniti. The problem I had was that Toyota financing didn’t want to approve me on the deal we put together. They instead said they would approve something with much higher interest and putting the car near the price I paid for the Infiniti. I was in a bad spot where I was rolling two cars with negative on each. The price they offered was for a Lexus level and if it was a Lexus I would of taken it. But not for a Toyota. Infiniti took in my cars in my current condition at the time and was able to offer discounts based on the fact that I used to be a Nissan owner in the past with great track record with them. So yes the price wasn’t great but it wasn’t too far off what would be reasonable for Infiniti. So I pulled the trigger. But after owning the brand considering the treatment etc and product quality it’s why I ditched it. But I actually agree with you. The Camry isn’t a bad car at all I liked it. It just ended up being a situational problem for myself at the time. 👍
@@BornInBosnia a car I’ve had success with in the past. Hyundai Sonata. My 2015 sonata went 4 years without a single problem and I like the fact that Hyundai puts so much tech standard. You have an affordable car under 30k with with more tech than my 56k Infiniti had. I know and fully understand it’s not to the same standards as a Toyota and Honda. That’s why I take extra care of it to try hard to extend its life as much as possible. If I can get 6 years out of this car I’m happy. It has everything I could want in a car. It’s not perfect but it’s the best for my current situation.
Nice! I love my 2014 Q50. I got it with 8k from a old lady in 2016. Currently has 75k and runs great and have not cause me no freaking issue. Other than buying a new battery. 2014 is one of the best Year so far for the Q50.
I had a 2015 q50 and loved it. The 3.7 engine is very reliable and I never had any issues with it. It was indestructible in the winter with the awd system. Can’t mod them much and the new ones have a much more unreliable 3.0 twin turbo engine which is slightly faster but terrible reliability
My cousin bought a '16 Rogue in April. It's broken down about every month since & yesterday her front calipers seized. Counting the new brakes she'll be putting on, she'll have put $3,500 in repairs into it since she got it.
I prefer the RWD of Infiniti vs Nissan in their sporty sedans. My days of Nissan are long gone. Owned their trucks, cars and SUVs. Was a big fan of Maximas and owned a few until 99. When the rumors of the new redo in 00 being RWD was bunk, that was my last Maxima. My last 04 Armada was it for Nissan. Nothing from them interests me and the quality has definitely gone way down from those days.
Hey Scotty, I must say! Those pink asian leave/tree petals blowing, in the bright sun on a clear day, with that gentle wind, is a perfect setting for recording a video on an asian luxury car like that! Great timing, Scotty
I've been lucky on cheap vehicles b4 and I've made a few bad choices too. But I've had a few cars that cost me less than $1,000 a piece that lasted me at least 2 years or more and that's cheaper than any car payment
Got my Q50 a couple months ago, just 1 year left on its warranty. I had all the problems fixed on it for free, saved me tons of money on parts and labor and the price of the car of course. Gotta play them cards right to get an almost new condition car.
I traded in my Lexus RC360 on a brand new (at the time) 2019 Infiniti q60 red sport and never looked back. Leaves the Lexus for dead. Put Michelin pilot sport tyres on the Q60. Great car.
107K miles on my G37xS sedan daily, 63K on the 350Z roadster. Tanks thar last, both still drive like new and the G goes through salt every winter. The Q50 infotainment is just Infiniti going iPhones on wheels like everyone else. Not bugs here.
I too do not like low profile tires! I also hate cars built too low to the ground that wont clear a speed bump or the front undercover wont clear the curb.CHEERS from Canadian side.
Infiniti is better than Nissan but only just. It mainly comes down to the fact that the Infiniti brand doesn’t use CVTs. They still have issues and are not comparable to Acura or Lexus in terms of long term reliability.
I bought a q50 awd 3.7 v6 a month ago and I love it. Don’t know if I’ll keep it long because I used to have an Xterra and loved the size and what I can do with it. Hopefully I can keep it, probably not lol
A friend of mind Nissan transmission just went out ... And last week a small car shop told me Nissans are garbage and always have problems after transmission fluid change outs
The one thing I don’t really hear talked about much with infinity is for some reason all their cars especially when they are new smell really good I don’t know what it is about infinities in particular but their new car smell is fantastic
@@_zigzak no.. not even in the same league haha let me guess your one of those characters who think their is more to a car than quality ? And hondai and kia have surpassed toytoa and Honda haha 🤣🤣
just got a used 2019 q50 and im in love! this video makes me feel better that i got one used of course but also low milage, low price, and it was 1 onwer lease so it was kept in great condition:)
I agree . When a car has a lot of miles or is getting old , I dont see any reason to wind them out to the redline unless you have a real need to get somewhere fast .
@@manuelesquivel2107 lol he does it in every car. Seen him do it in many early 90s cars that are going on 30 years old with original engines and transmissions. Not that difficult to damage something in and old car with old high mileage original tranny and engines. Sometime things are hanging by a thread and you really have to baby old cars.
Saw a lot of different cars in my job. Always found that Infinitis seemed ok for 3-4 years and then sstarted falling apart. Nowhere the quality of Lexus, or Toyotas in general.
I bought a used 2014 Nissan Altima with a V6 270 HP engine in 2016 from a dealer and it goes like a rocket. I bought an extended warrantee on everything and just extended it for another 7 years or until it has 90,000 miles on it for 2000 dollars. Anything goes wrong no matter what it is no cost to me. So far only problem was a position sensor on the crank shaft. Cost to me on the first warrantee was 100 dollars. Car has a little over 36,000 miles on it. Every gadget you can think of. I really enjoy this car. Glad you also like it too. Glad you think it's a reliable engine.
Scotty forgot about the VQ engines and that these cars are made in Japan. I still see 2003 G35’s on road eating the new cars, what other brand can say that??? Don’t sleep on Infiniti!
I sold my 07 m35 I changed 2 engine but that car is the best car I drove, everywhere I go people always stop to look at it with LED lights and fog lights and body kit, never have a problem driving it in snow
I had a 04 G35 and a 08 G37. Great cars. Not one problem. V8 power good quality. They just aren't quite as solid as Lexus: Normal Toyota/ Lexus only breaks if you try to break it. Infiniti is 80 or 90 % of Lexus. Nissan isn't the same story compared to Toyota.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again -- Scotty Kilmer is a national treasure. He's somebody we can all trust for good, knowledgeable, honest advice on cars.
I just bought one of these last year and was afraid you were gonna tell us it sucks haha. Bought mine used. 37,000 miles paid 24k 2015 model with the 3.7. It’s fun, smooth, and sounds good when you wanna go fast. I bought it knowing they didn’t hold value well but to me, that’s fine. I just wanted a reliable engine on a good platform that has some style. It was either gonna be this or a stinger for me. Went with this instead because the stingers are very overpriced by me.
@@joemommaganja hey man. i’m contemplating on buying a 2014 infiniti q50 with 78,000 miles on it. do you think it’s worth getting? did you have any issues with it so far?
All-wheel drive is a waste of money in a car except for the wintertime - spring thru fall not much use if any - need to make it a push-button 4x4 - my opinion
I bought a 1 year old 2015 Infiniti Q50 3.7 V6 for $24,500 (27k miles) brand new it was 45k. Depreciation is crazy on those of new but used it is an excellent value. I have had no problems at all and I put it trough its paces. 2015 was the best year for Q50. Avoid the 2016+ Q50 due to its problematic twin turbo engine.
My lane keep assist in my 2019 Honda Civic brings me back to the pot holes of Florida when I try to maneuver away from them. I always turn it off so I don’t have to fight my steering wheel.
Scotty, heres a tip even YOU have never thought about. Recently,I found the petrol refill cap door would not open on my wifes 1999 Toyota Corolla...the spring had broken. To get it to open,I simply put a an appropriately sized object (a tiny metal container!),under the release lever inside the car and left it there until i fixed the problem. To fix the problem, i got a metal key ring, opened it out a little and inserted it in the fuel cap release door where the release spring had been....it works a dream and it cost nothing! Think i'll start a RU-vid channel in oppostion to yours,Scotty! Heck,i'm halfway across the world here in Ireland,so i'm sure it'd be okay!!!
I still have a 2007 G35S stick shift. That car does not ask for anything different from wear and tear and oil change and with 270k km performs like a beast.
Ive gotten stuck on the side of the road after hitting a pothole. My low profile tire got ripped. Changing a tire on a busy intersection with people going 60mph is dangerous especially if your back is towards the traffic side. Now I have to buy 2 new tires so that they ride evenly. Wheels can also get bent easier because there is less rubber to cushion the blow. Low profiles are high maintenance and cost more too.
My 2004 Infiniti G35X was most reliable car owned for 9 years just oil change go then got 2011 Infiniti G37x for 6 years unfortunately wasn’t as reliable. I have was ready for Red sport Q50 but Infiniti not like use to be! I decided to purchase Stinger and very happy!
My automatic door locks work too in my 02 Jetta 2.slow. with the the 4 speed jatco tranny. 208*** miles. Only code I just tried was 02 sensor. And she burns about a 1/4 quart every 300-400 miles. Idc wat Scotty says. At the time they were still easy to work on, reliable if you took care of them and my trim has leather seats, heated seats, sunroof, alarm, door lock window roll down, a nice dash, and a solid car. U hear it when u shut the doors. Plus it's a Wisconsin car with literally only superficial rust on the exhaust and some of the frame. And it was a Mexican vw. Just take care of it and it'll take care of you
Ahh Scotty you picked a q50...that 3.7 engine is a bulletproof engine perfected from Nissan....yes there will be a few issues with tech like any other car but the trans and engine on this car are solid.
My brothers infinity started falling apart 3-4years after he bought it my 20yo fords are built like tanks one has 340k miles on it all original never worked on
@@alfredemerson1139 it's a computer...by the time you have it in your hand, a better one is being advertised. I still have the Bluetooth model Scotty was using about two years ago.
@@invaderzim1265 had trouble with it, Bluetooth wouldn't connect....but the company seems to still support their product and they sent me instructions on how to get it going again. So yep, still using it.
I’ve turned off Lane Watch on my ‘15 Accord because it makes me crazy. If I get anywhere near the lane markers it goes off. Even the collision avoidance alarm annoys me because it gets fooled by any signage placed in the center medians. I’m also not sure the back up camera works right. When I’m backing out of a space, dumb people still proceed to walk past the car when it’s in motion. Shouldn’t it send out an electrical force field to keep them away?😏
Probably need to change to "this is your last warning mode". Robotic voice emits from a speaker in your rear bumper "hey stupid! I am backing up here!" 😆
@@thomaspeacock7248 so they will get their wish? They will have succeeded! Lol! Maybe manufacturers will design a hinged rear bumper. One that senses pedestrians walking behind your vehicle and swings out, swats them out of the way! Could be a friendly voice coming from the rear speaker, speaking in a dialect of your choosing that says "excuse me!" Mustn't be rude of course! I think I would prefer a woman's voice with an Australian accent.
i got my 2015 q fiddy 3.7 premium 6 years ago it had 80k miles wen i got it it was 2 years old now it got 134k miles only thing i had 2 do is change starter twice already i b flooring it thing runs like a champ n i b doing doughnuts in da snow so much fun im so glad i purchased this vehicle
The more complex a car is the more things that can and will go bad eventually. I agree, those low profile tires are foolish. Even without potholes there are curbs railroad tracks, road debris. You are going to regret it, for what? Looks? More expense? ROI.
Hey Scotty, How come you don't mention that Honda uses timing belts? I love Honda but would not buy another because of timing belts. 2 My 2017 Ridgeline needs new belt in 30,000 miles, $1500 repair.
I had a 2009 Nissan Altima. Paint faded quickly, suspension went bad and the manifold cracked at 100k. It was over 1k for a new one. Fortunately, I found a guy who welded it for me for $400.
Ive had 2 infinitis with the same engine. My last one (m35) reached 280k. It was burning oil and i would still beat the crap out of it. I beat the crap out of it a little too hard on the freeway before i added more oil and ended up with nasty engine knock. If it werent for the way i drove that thing, im sure it would have lasted much longer.
It is very hard to co-ordinate a mechanic seeing a used car ... You would have to ask the buyer to drive it to the mechanic ... or some other hard to co-ordinate rendezvous ... do you have any suggestions ... you say all the time to have a mechanic check it ... but realistically this notion is almost impossible !!! You say "Find a mechanic Like me" That is impossible !!! People may only find a mechanic like you once in their lifetime !!!
I look at and find cars for others... The best suggestion I can think of, is find a local mechanic you trust, ask how much to inspect a used car, then look in that area, & ask the seller, if a mechanic can look at it. I know what to look for when buying used......but the most consistent tell" that a seller gives, & shows to be true, are receipts, for maintenance & or repairs. I ask common questions, mileage? Is it snogged? how long have you had it? Why are you selling it? The last 2 questions expose the online used car sellers. That's not necessarily a bad thing. An honest reseller, will tell you, they got it at the auction, or it was a trade in. Car fax is also helpful. There are many used cars that are just ok, but with complete attention to a thorough maintenance, may last many years, where you can resell it, & move on to something new. The best used cars, are the best new cars. Without going into detail, I would stick with cars made in Japan. I have great respect for the integrity behind they're cars & motorcycles, however, with the changing climate, I don't know what those models are today. Consumer reports is a handy tool, in the past I've found them to be highly accurate in they're description portion of the cars. Honda, Toyota & Nissan would be picks for me. If it's just a good used 2-4 K reliable car you want, go with, older Lexus, Toyota Camry, Honda civic or accord. The car could have 200K miles+ but if treated right, the car can easily go another 100K. Oops one more question I always ask, if it has an (interference motor) the timing belt ( if not replaced when due) can snap, & that's pretty much the end of the motor. If it has a timing belt, most do, ask when it was replaced. Long winded I know. But actually, there's so much more. I'm really vetting the owners of these used cars, more than the car. Hope this helps
@@Bellathebear777 Thank you for sharing. It really helps me as I'm looking at getting another car-- presently have a 2011 Honda Pilot 4 wheel with all the bells and whistles with 120,000 highway miles. Changed oil every 3000 miles and all maintenance up to date with all receipts. Just never kept a car with that much mileage in it and trade in might be best right now.
I am looking at a 2000 Toyota Camry I can document the miles it has 67000 miles on it. And it was came from Arizona they want $5,000 for it have all the service records and for some reason they have had the timing belt twice at the Toyota dealer the car looks excellent besides that my concern is the year but you can document the miles is that a goodbye it has the good 4-cylinder motor in it and for some reason they change the bearings ball bearings or something. I believe an elder couple owned it and the dealership just rate them what do you think
The dealer probably suggested that they change the timing belt every 10 years which really isnt bad idea ( because its rubber ) And as far as the " Bearings " ? being replaced , they could be talking about the wheel bearing(s ). $5k for that car isnt a great deal but its an fair deal , in my opinion. As long as you can verify the miles is correct .
I read an article that most people turn of the advanced safety features in their car - adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert and the pre-collision system because the beeping is annoying
I guess my dad was a lucky one, he bought a used 2008 M45 back in ‘12 and the only major repair it needed were the cats (we’re in Cali) and he kept it until march of 2021 when he got into a very minor fender bender and the insurance claimed it a total loss. I believe he had 184,000 miles on the car and was still going strong. He then got a 2017 Qx60. My parents love Infiniti haha
I just picked up a 2015 Highlander and the passenger and both rear doors are unresponsive to lock and unlock. I don't know if its a fuse or relays I don't know where to start.
About the only "assisted" driving feature that I leave turned on is blind spot monitoring (which in Toyotas--at least the Camry's) it doesn't beep or make noise) and the adaptive cruise control. I've since turned off the lane departure warning system, as it's annoying. Of course some you can't turn off like the preventative collision systems but those only come on if you're going to hit something.
🤣🤣if you think Tennessee roads are bad try south Carolina literally our roads are pot holes and I mean the whole road you will swerve to miss one and end up hitting one 10 times as worse the last 5 vehicles I've owned I've had to replace suspension components that should tell you something 🤣🤧
The VQ series Nissan engines are fantastic...and in this case, the 7spd auto infiniti uses is a great tranny. Nothing like the cvt auto garbage Nissan uses in every car that isn't an infiniti
The plows destroy the roads in winter honestly they fix the potholes right before winter then plow it right back off. I have low pros on the scion tc and yes it does suck on these roads for the potholes nothing to absorb the bump really. Thankfully I haven't popped any yet due to it.
Q50 s are good reliable cars i own a hybrid and seen others do 200k miles without major issues. Might be slightly less reliable than lexus but much more sportier.
Scotty what do you think about the new subscription model Toyota's planning to roll out in order to turn on your car with the key fob??? It's going to cost the consumer $8 in a subscription to simply have the feature that's the consumer already paid for when they bought the car to turn on their car with their key fob!!!
