We've always had a soft spot for Aprilia's naked sport bike. With the release of the latest version, has our opinion changed at all? Donovan and Mat take a closer look.
I don't know the white-haired guy's name, but I am glad he was able to cut in and do his thing over this new guy, Donnovan. Always love this white-haired guy's reviews. :)
You guys are hilarious, love your videos! Power/torque is subjective for sure. For me, it's more about the soul of the motorcycle. How it speaks to you, how it draws you to it when you see it, how it makes you feel when you throw your leg over it & grab the bars, how it sounds when you twist the throttle. I like adventure bikes, so raw power is not the most important to me. I currently have a KLR650 (685 big bore kit) & a WR250R. I just ordered a 2015 Triumph Tiger 800XCx. I own those bike because of the reasons I stated above. They may be ugly to some, slower than other bikes in their class & not perfect at any one thing. But they all make my heart race when I go for a ride in their own way & I feel like I can go anywhere when I'm on them without limits. And to me, that is what riding is all about. Damn the horsepower wars, ride what make you want to ride more & enjoy it!
Was considering the KTM, but the various reviews and the look swayed me towards the Tuono. Picked one up a week or so ago...the V4 1100 RR. First impressions are great...handling, power, ride position, and the amazing soulful sound. And for less coin than the BMW or KTM.
the fat cat is off his rocker! love the smooth v4 - almost no vibration at all and just sold my monster 1200s to get 1100rr which is night and day better - sound, power, handling, shifting, electronics, quality - does everything better for less $$$!
So you didn't think it was worth the extra for the 1100 factory? I've heard it's top of the line sach (spl) compared to bottom of Ohlins. So even if Ohlins are better there isn't so much difference in the two here.
Thank you boys, that was basically one of the best reviews of the Tuono I've seen! I thoroughly enjoyed it! It was exactly how bike reviews should be done: funny and informative at the same time! Cheers!
Guys .with the greatest respect , the big guy who slagged it for not being powerfull , ?????? well dude if you lost a few stone in weight that would give the bike 10 more horse power . , Be fair , . Sorry just my Opinion ....
+Phil Noel - couldn't agree more. Donovan is a total moron. A fat slug like him needs all the displacement he needs to move his lard laden body. Thankfully the other reviewer was more 'mature' and intelligent in his analysis.
Can we just make sure Donovan never gets into a position of authority, anywhere. Then I'll sleep safely. But you are right on the Monster - its about the experience, not the figures.
I've ridden both the superduke and the tuono factory and on open twisty roads the tuono bitch slaps the ktm. Just to prove the point one of my buddies had the duke then tried my tuono . Two weeks later superduke gone and he's now riddin the thunder
I've owned both the Superduke and the Aprilia Tuono 1100. The Aprilia is the best roadster hands down. Both engines are fabulous. BUT the Tuono is the best in a couple of items like weight, and thus manoeuvrability, and like electronics ( much more precise and complete on the Aprilia ). And I personnally think the Aprilia is more pleasant to steer than the KTM, comfort wise.
+Alan Luangrath I agree... ; how much power SHOULD a naked streetbike have to be enough for him? 200bhp? I'm quite sure it's possible to re-tune that Tuono to go to +200bhp, but it would probably utterly ruin the behaviour of that bike on the street and require it to be operated at very high rpm if you want smooth riding; indeed, just buy a sportsbike then and completely equip it for racing purposes already ;)
I know right, there's only like 1% of people out there that are capable of enjoying that extra power to it full potential. To us mere mortals that extra power wouldn't really mean much besides straight line speed hoolaganism. Ooorrrrrrrr Donnie could lose a little weight to make his power to weight ratio a bit better. ^_^
