First Tuono was a v twin "R" model launched in 2002 i think. Aprilia make great bikes, but here in Australia when something goes wrong it will take months to find parts & someone competant to work on them. Dealer support network is rubbish. After having a NEW, 750 Shiver which i loved. Started getting cold weather starting probs after it was 10k km serviced by dealer. No one could fix. Traded it for MT10. I dont need 160hp. But i do need a bike i can track, tour and commute on. Plus feel reassured their are plenty of techs out their with Yamaha experience. Plus dealer support is great.

My dear God that ZH2 is one of the most horrible looking bikes ever created imo. Never had much love for Kawasaki, but this is another level. They would have to pay me for standing in the garage. The tuono needs a facelift together with the mt10 to make it more appealing. I would buy the KTM just for the pure funfactor. And a tuono to just listen to that killer engine.

However, the ZH2 can easily produce 240+ HP (depending on how much you pay) from buying the ecu & exhaust package from Brocks Performance!!! Loved my Aprilia RSV4 1100. BUT quality control from Aprilia on parts shipped to the dealer to repair it after I encountered a deer was very disappointing. Fairing came in with clear coat over mistakes, which means they didn't notice or they didn't care. It took 8 months to get my bike back to looking like new. And then there was the annoying intermittent problem where approaching a stoplight and properly downshifting through the gears, shifting into neutral...and engine shuts off on its own. They couldn't solve this. Love the bike, hate the factory support. And then there's the lack of dealerships across the U.S. Can't choose the Aprilia. Sorry.

Lenso Prezole that's true..I honestly feel the middle weight nakeds like the 890 duke r and the street triple rs are just as good on the street, but there's something about the characteristics of the engine and chasis of the aprilla that just feels so good! I have a feeling that doing a 'real' shootout (same day, multiple riders) purely at the track, the Tuono will still be on top but with a bigger margin compared to the Duc and Duke; the Duke is an apex predator street bike that is fun at the track... the Tuono is and always has been a race bike with some minor adjustments to work well on the street

Owned the zh2 and tuono factory for 6 months now and both absolutely epic bikes. Tuono v4 is addictive and the handling is best in the business. Sounds are as u know pure intoxicating for any petrol head. Its a well proven bike with many years of improvements behind it. Zh2 is the ultimate road bike. Blows the tuono away for all out speed and acceleration and at times makes the tuono feel a little boring as its missing that supercharger howl. Its very comfy and will do 55mpg on the motorway. Iv either owned all the above bikes or ridden them and owned many other supers. I feel I have the best 2 bikes iv ever owned. Keepers.

@@vxlgsi It wasn't a loose battery terminal. The dealer updated the maps, he just mentioned they tightened the battery cables too. Even after I had it serviced it still would shutter sometimes like it wanted to go in limp mod but never did, one of the reasons I sold it. I did not trust that bike, maybe I got a lemon. Also, Aprilia said if I put an akra exhaust on the bike the warranty will be voided because it would be deemed no longer street legal with an aftermarket exhaust. They don't like to pay for warranty work. I talked a few former Aprilia dealers and they told me they ditched the Aprilia line from their dealership because Aprilia would not pay out for warranty work. Have you heard the H2 in real life? Granted I'm a bit of a screamer fan, but that weird, high pitched tweeting chirp, almost above normal hearing range but loud enough to still be clearly audible, is completely out of this world, and not like anything else. Videos don't convey how enveloping and vertigo'ish it sounds. As if it comes from all around and inside your head at the same time. Played over a massive sound system with crystal clear highs in a pumping Ibiza club, it could be worked into a signature sonic of the hit of summer, if pumping clubs was still a thing in the virus age. Perhaps Kanye will get one to race around on and sample, now that he's holed up in lightly policed, wide open Wyoming...

My 2020sdr was a great bike too massively enhanced. Far better than its 2019 version. SF is epic shame its so expensive. Test ride was awesome but id not feel comfortable blowing 20k on a bike. But some other ppl would. I feel alot of ppl who hate on it are just jealous they can't afford it or just hate ducati. Everyone always hates the spoilt rich kid. Zh2 isnt a track bike, wasn't built to be a one, its a fast road bike, does a good job at it and it isn't pretty. Doesn't try to be either. None of these bikes are actually stunning. Panigale is sexy. Rocket R is beautiful. Bobber is gorgeous. But super nakeds arnt ment to be anything but brute, in ya face, mangled looking lumps of transformer looking machines. The zh2 is differnt and it shits on the others with its SC punch. That's why I own one. The mt10sp actually is a great bike. Looks at first wernt nice to me but its grown on me and still looks fresh cos of its bold design. For me if u like it buy it. Exactly. This was anything but a shoot out. Just a bloke musing in his garage. What is required are a) multiple rider inputs b) track and quarter mile performance, and c) 150 mile plus distance comfort/travel assessments. Far too much hero worship from the comments for a guy who is clearly track and performance orientated, and doesn't think with the average pay check of most riders. Poor review.

They're all insanely good and desirable in their own way - I'd love to have any of these in my garage. You can add to this list the S1000R (surely a new one coming soon - immense engine too in that), Speed Triple (only down on power up in the rev range where nobody threads - more torque than an MT10), Monster 1200 (same story - 124 Nm where it matters) and even the CB1000R at a stretch. Which raises the question: how many nutters are there really out there who feel that >110Nm and >140hp (let alone 200) on a road naked is delivering a better biking experience? Because as much as I like them and would love one, any quick internal sanity check says that for this type of bike, an 890 Duke, MT-09 SP, Street Triple or Monster 821 is very likely much more fun? Or if you want the wave of torque feeling, any of the Triumph 1200 HTs, or any BMW 1250 boxer.. Having said all of that, that Tuono though...
@jorreee
@jorreee 4 года назад
Amen. I own a 790 and tested it back to back with a Superduke. The superduke was wayyy too much. The 890 R seems to be the perfect 790 though, so that's interesting. But I never needed more than 105hp on the road, and the 890 brings that to 120.

There is a truckload of great bikes and you have produced the master list. Having had 2+ years and 37000 km on my S1000R, and enjoyed every minute (what a bike), now in that “what next?” phase. Theoretical shortlist is Tuono, SDR3, SFV4S and Speed Triple RS. Given the issues with the S1000RR I would be waiting another gen before buying a really properly new S1000R, which Is a shame because my experience as an owner with the bike and dealing with BMW has been great. @brian glendenning Brian, think you and I are on the same page. I have a Speed Triple RS, and it is simply lovely. I borrowed a Tuono Factory for a couple of weeks. Fantastic bike. Incredible engine. But it is too small for me, and the finishing is appalling for a bike costing that much. I know it is only a clutch lever (and can be changed) but it is a perfect example of the crap minor components used throughout. Before I borrowed it I really wanted to love it. Even decided I would change the bars and rear sets to get a little more room. But the electronic suspension just doesn’t have the range of adjustment to make sense to me. The difference between hard and soft is a fraction of what you can achieve with the manual adjusters on the full Ohlins setup on my RS. Granted, a lot less convenient than pressing buttons, but I now have a setup that works and the bike rides beautifully.... Am tempted with the new KTM, and the new S1000R will probably be great, also.... David.

I got an Aprilia Tuono Factory this year, the one thing that isn`t mentioned in the reviews is that because of the new Streetfighter and KTM, the Aprilia is selling at a very good discount making it the easiest choice. Plus available right away, whilst the Ducati has a months long waiting list, making it pointless for this year riding season. The KTM will all the necessary xtras that brings it to the level of the others is about as expensive as the Ducati and doesn`t have an electronic suspension. For the money one pays out the door, the Aprilia is the deal.

I agree about the Yamaha styling. The reason I don't own a Japanese bike is that they all look like hentai Pokemon, and I am not OK with that. It looks like a motorcycle designed for a child. They really need to higher some German or Italian designers for the looks. The Honda CB1000r is the best looking Japanese super naked but the engine is really bland and totally outmatched. KTM and Aprilia are the best, but the Ducati Streetfighter is way to gaudy.

They are coming hard, but still can’t push the king off the mountain. I would like to see the track times between the Ducati and the Aprilia, I have a feeling the Aprilia may still take it. I don’t know why people don’t like the looks of the Yamaha, it looks like a transformer....so? Looks mean, looks different, best looking bike here. Although I don’t think the SP paint scheme is it’s best, the first year black with the red accents it the best. The KTM is the next best looking but in the orange and blue. Black is nice but a little sedated. The Ducati and the Aprilia are the next best looking. Ducati looks supercar and Italian, but there is just something about the street fighter and the panagalis that don’t make my heart race like they should. Aprilia looks good but the front fairing is dated looking. And the Kawasaki, looks a little like its mother had to feed it with a slingshot. Like the colors and the green frame, but that whole front bulbous lump.....sucks, I want to like it. I am a tuono fan boy, but there is just something about the KTM that speaks to me now, I think it would be my no budget pick. I think the bike most should get is a standard MT10. Don’t get depressed about dropping insane money, similar performance. Ride the helm out of it for a year or 2, then get new fork internals, a shock, full exhaust and tune, and have something special. And even though I am a tuono fan boy, and that V4 is one of the best sounding engines of all time..... the Yamaha sounds better, pains me to say it. Things that bump the Aprilia from first spot for me are the extremely limited dealer network and high service costs. I could live with the more cramped riding position, the slightly old school feel of halogen bulbs and no fuel gauge (petrol stations can be almost as hard to find as Aprilia dealers around here) and the limited accessories (factory or aftermarket), but the dealer network's an issue. There's one local dealer and they have a poor reputation, with the next closest being over 700km away and part of the same chain of stores (not sure if they are any better interstate).
